Her form was not consistent anymore after almost a year off but still a formiddable player. Her body was fragile. I think her style of play needs much more court craft, patience, strength than most other players (she preferred to run around her backhand, her slice backhand was not a killer shot to earn her some quick points, her superior footwork). She needed to be so confident and almost as strong as when she dominated to dominate again in 1998 and 1999 but as we all knew her body didt allow that. (if only she had developed her drive backhand and used it in her matches more, she would have been invincible.)
Her topspin backhand was already very developed, but it was just her mentality towards her topspin backhand that needed to change. She needed more belief in it, but Steffi knew her abilities and game more than anyone else, and that dangerous slice backhand was what she went with especially after the late 1980s. But when she decided to do her topspin backhand, it was excellent!
40:30 finished it off with another big forehand winner pass 51:28 a great defensive lob followed by a volley winner 57:07 and 58:33 always great to see Steffi punish a second serve with such ferocious forehands!
