    Hey Eric, I just wanted to update you on how useful your post was. I had previously asked a mechanic friend of mine how to fix the leak from the AC.He said it was easy to fix and that it was located under the hood by the wiper blades and to locate it and hit it with a power washer. So I removed a plastic housing and found a rubber hose and hit it with the power washer , it turned out to be the wiper blade washer hose. I tried his recommendation first because I couldn’t get under my pickup 🛻. So I lifted the car up by driving one side up the side walk and was able to get under it, located the drain hose like you said and bingo it cleaned up the hose and about a quart of water drained out and is now draining correctly. Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video, it worked exactly like you said. 👍

    Wow, this happened to me last year and a guy charged me $200 lol. Turned out that guys business went bad for lying to people and messing with their cars so his cliental would return (scammer move). Problem came back but I now know how simple it is and fortunately I looked up how to fix it myself , thank you Eric 👌🏼

      $200 is high no doubt and it should have been less, but also remember you are paying for the knowledge and time it took for them to learn the knowledge HOW to fix an issue. Many places charge a minimum labor rate for just this reason.

    Saved my 05 Accord down here in Costa Rica. The dealership mechanic said they needed to pull the dash and replace the unit which they diagnosed as 'cracked'. I even shot my own video to capture the money shot I awaited following the air blast :) Now with the new computer replacing the one that fried from all the water, I'm back and even better baby! Just wanted to send some appreciation. Thanks!

    Thanks Eric. This was my problem exactly. I didn't have an air line so i used a tyre pump with an air bed adaptor pushed in to the end of the hose secured with a hose clip. worked a treat.

    Wow. 14 years old this video is. I've been learning from you for a long time! I fixed a friend's a/c that hadn't worked in years, and he loved it. But suddenly "my windows are leaking." Nope. It's the a/c drain line. I get to look like a genius for the second time!

    Absolutely fantastic!!! You saved me $250 today. I walked out of the dealership where I lease my car because they couldn't guarantee me the repair would be under warranty. @IIGrayfoxII Mostly it's debris from trees and such that get caught on your windshield just under your wipers. This is the fresh air inlet for the HVAC and where the contaminants will come into the system. I usually clean this area when doing a service to help prevent this and make sure that the HVAC can get a good airflow.

  • @ericthecarguy
    @ericthecarguy  14 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    @lehinostroza I admit they may be hard to find on some cars. If you can't find it from under the car you might want to look from the top, sometimes they are in the center of the firewall sticking out near the transmission. Know that it IS there and keep looking, good luck.

  • @ericthecarguy
    @ericthecarguy  14 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    @ElChobi77 I don't know the exact location but they are normally on the passenger side near the firewall or in the floor in some but mostly look at the firewall for it's location.

  • @ericthecarguy
    @ericthecarguy  13 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    @alexgilchrist1 It's possible that is the case but you won't know till you clear the drain and even then if the effected component is damaged just getting rid of the cause may not fix the problem.

  • @ericthecarguy
    @ericthecarguy  14 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    @mrjost55 It comes from debris from trees or other stuff that collects on the cowl under your wipers, this is the fresh air inlet to the HVAC system in your car. That combined with the condensation makes a goopy mess inside the evap housing.

  • @ericthecarguy
    @ericthecarguy  14 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    @tH3FtoN3 It's hard to say, I'm not sure if that HVAC system is vacuum controlled, if that is the case you might have a bad actuator inside the dash or a small vacuum leak. Or it could just be the expansion valve that you are hearing as a result of a low charge.

    If you don’t have an air compressor, a can of air (the stuff used to blast dust out of keyboards) also does the trick in my experience. The cans come with a super thin flexible nozzle which can be helpful if the drain hole is in a tight area.
    Also, make sure you’re off to the side when you spray or you WILL get wet

    i have this issue. took the cowl apart thinking it was filling up under that, and it was dry. Still the sloshing sound while turning. Been scratching my head for a couple months now. This is it! Water build up is cancer to a car, so this is pretty important to get fixed. Thank you!

  • @ericthecarguy
    @ericthecarguy  14 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    @zztopgearhead1 That does sound like a heater core or perhaps one of the hoses going to it. You can bypass a heater core by routing the 2 hoses together however you won't have any heat as a result but it will get you by in a pinch.

  • @charlescc2
    @charlescc2 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thanks for the video. I haven't used my A/C once this year despite some of the heat we've had in MD because of the leaking that started last year. I'm wondering if that's why I didn't have any water drain out after blasting some air. I went at it with between 40-80 PSI, which I figure is more than enough to loosen up whatever would've been in there. Hopefully the reason there was no drainage is because it all leaked out after the last time I used it. Thanks again.

    I noticed the sloshing sound two weeks ago after heavy rains. I thought rain had gotten inside of my 2015 Chrysler 300. Each time I turned or braked it sounded like a gallon of water was inside the car somewhere. I don’t think I can blow the line so I hope Chrysler won’t charge me for taking it in tomorrow. A little reading tells me this is either a plugged AC drain line or a leaking heater core.

    Oh thank you for keeping short and fun 😮 my 2007 Lexus GS350 having the exact issues. Only took it to a mechanic twice. Didn’t fix the problem. Now the other guy took my car apart on the passenger side and he thinks my car is missing a drain hose. Then my mechanic friend was telling me that wasn’t it that was just the harness wire suppose to go it makes sense because it would not. Make sense to have water drain into the wires and there wasn’t enough room for it. Anyway, I see a small plastic black tube on the passenger side of the tire inner wall. Is the the drain hose?

    ETCG: Always great videos-very helpful to us trying to save a few bucks. 01 Silverado, water on passenger carpet. Can hear sloshing around behind dash. Used coat hanger on AC drain; nothing came out, hanger was 100% dry entire time. Compressed air did nothing either. Advice on next step? drains for reservoir (where wiper motor sits) at base of windshield clogged? heater core clogged? i get occassional low coolant warning (maybe once every 2 months) and only need to add a few ounces. Your ideas are greatly appreciated.

    Will a clogged drain hose cause steam to come out of the air vents? I will mention I needed to unclog the hose during the summer months and didn’t get around to it and now it’s winter with snow on the ground. So the a/c hasn’t been running.

    Dude thanks!! Past 2 days I've seen steam coming from my vents and hearing that's sound. I saw ur vid and bought a can of condensed air for my 2005 Sierra. Shot it in the hose real quick and a gallon of water came out. Thanks for the vid bro was wicked helpful

    Nice video!
    Is this a more common problem on some brands/models?
    What are the alternativ reasons for this problem?

    This is such a great and useful video! I recently had this problem but I did not have an air pump. My dad helped me fix it with a leaf blower 😅 it worked though, for anyone wondering if there was an alternative to an air pump!

    Great video for the AC Drain but What is the cause if the water is pouring down the drivers side of a 2011 Toyota 4runner

    On a 2008 Dodge Avenger there is a 5/16"ID black rubber hose used as the drain line. It is under the drivers side of the car just inside the side frame rail. I did not have any compressed air but had a piece of plastic tubing that I stuck up inside the rubber hose and blew into it. The condensate drained out. I did not see what had clogged it so I expect it will happen again.
