    Hi! Nice trip! Im wondering where did u see the northern lights? Did u get a tour? Thanks
    Were going this coming Dec

    • @FamilyTripping
      @FamilyTripping  29 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi, no we didn't get a tour. We saw them in Levi and headed just outside there to where it was very dark, in our car. This year 2024/2025 is going to be the best time to see the Northern Lights as the cycle dips until in about 11 years it will be great again. So if money is a concern, you could skip the tour and hope you see them. If you are willing to spend and want the absolute best chance and best place to see them, then opt for a tour. It depends on where you are heading, if you have your own transport, how many nights you are there for etc. you have to weigh up your chance of seeing them on your own. If you are there for a few nights and are able to walk to or drive to somewhere with less light pollution, like a frozen lake for example, then you could just try that. Use an app, like MyAurora and also use your own judgement - as I say in the video, if it's a clear night it's worth having a look outside. And don't just look with your eyes, look through your phone. And if you see them, try to head somewhere darker. I hope you have an amazing time and I hope you see them.

    This is really helpful. I’m going to Levi for Xmas with my mum. We are hoping to book a beginners ski lesson. Would love some tips on what to buy to wear please

    • @FamilyTripping
      @FamilyTripping  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'll be posting the video on what to wear and what to pack at the start of October I think so if you haven't already, make sure you subscribe and turn on notifications, so you don't miss it. You could always do a beginner ski lesson at a snow sports centre in this country, or even a dry ski slope so that you'll be a bit ahead of the game when you go out there and you can ski a bit on your own after your lesson. You'll have the most amazing time!

    Thanks for such an informative video. Can you please guide us how to book tickets for Skiing? And Skii equipment?

    • @FamilyTripping
      @FamilyTripping  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We may make a Levi skiing guide, but in the meantime here are some tips. We used Elan ski rental in town, a short walk to Zero Point. They seemed to be slightly cheaper than hiring at Zero Point itself. Although at Zero Point you are at the slopes and ready to go. - no walking with your equipment. Elan's website is here www.elanskishoplevi.fi/rental
      and you can book in advance. You pay when you return the items. Sometimes they do discounts for booking a certain time in advance. But you can also just turn up and rent, like we did. You might have to wait a bit at busy times as there can be lots of people wanting to rent and return items. We have also rented from Zero Point before and just turned up. We also just turned up and bought our ski passes at Zero Point. You can probably save a bit by booking them online in advance. www.levi.fi/en/services/zero-point-rental/
      We didn't have lessons but I would advise booking in advance for those if possible.

    Hi, first of all, what a great and helpfull video's! I have one question, did you say in one of your video's that car rental for 11 days was only around 1000 euro's? Where can you rent that cheap? Thanks!

    • @FamilyTripping
      @FamilyTripping  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for your kind comments. Yes we paid 1,100 euros and I think we could have got it cheaper if we had booked very far in advance. The hire company was good too. Obviously everything is getting more expensive and we went in 2022/23 New Year - but a peak time still. If you were going in February or March you could probably get a good deal. My husband has the car rental company details so I will get back to you with those tomorrow.

    Great video, we're visiting soon but not skiing could I ask about the donut rings on the South slope? How do you get to this from the centre, go up the ski lift? And was there a cost for them? Thanks

    • @FamilyTripping
      @FamilyTripping  ปีที่แล้ว

      You could get a taxi, bus, drive or walk to South Point (depending on where you are staying). The tubes are just there and free. It's in the kids area. So with your back to the ski rental place, with the slopes and lifts in front of you, walk right and you should come to it. It's easy to find.

    Hi. I believe that this is not the first time your husband drives the car on the right side of the road. I am thinking of to rent a car, but what make me think twice is driving on the right side of the road😅 How is the traffic in Rovaniemi? is it okay for those who not familiar with left hand drive?

    • @FamilyTripping
      @FamilyTripping  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes he has driven on the other side quite a bit. The traffic isn't bad in Rovaniemi and once out of there it is totally fine. I do think though if you are really nervous about it perhaps it's best not to as you don't want the pressure and nerves on what is meant to be a holiday. You also have to factor in the road conditions as these can be challenging sometimes, with ice etc.

    • @globe_throtter_1843
      @globe_throtter_1843 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@FamilyTripping Thanks for responding. I used to drive in heavy snow and an icy road in Hokkaido Japan before. However it is still on right hand drive like UK & my country. Anyhow, thanks for sharing your thought

    • @FamilyTripping
      @FamilyTripping  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@globe_throtter_1843 Well with your experience of the snow and ice, if it's just driving on the other side that concerns you I would go for it. Just make sure you aren't driving too tired when you first do it, which might mean staying over by the airport for the first night. It just requires more concentration. There are probably online programs or video games where you can practise driving on the other side to get it into your mind.

    Where can we see aurora borealis in lapland,which place,near rovaniemi.where have you seen exactly,the name of place please?I dont wont to waste a time looking for, because a stay probably 3 - 4 days.Thanks

    • @FamilyTripping
      @FamilyTripping  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi there, we saw the aurora borealis when we were in Levi, which is 2 hours away fro Rovaniemi. If you're staying in Rovaniemi you still have a good chance to see them, it's just best to be away from the centre and the lights. So just head out of Rovaniemi centre if it's a clear night. And use an app such as My Aurora to help gauge the likelihood of seeing them. This year, the sun is expected to reach solar maximum, which means that 2024 and 2025 should be good years to see the Northern Lights.

    • @FamilyTripping
      @FamilyTripping  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      August to April is the best time for the northern lights. There can still be snowfalls in May, depending on where in Lapland you go, but if you really want snow I would go earlier.

  • @desmondchu1994
    @desmondchu1994 ปีที่แล้ว

    So,you were renting a car for road trip. Are there no transportation options in Lapland? I want to go to Lapland, but I feel unconfident about driving a car on snowy roads.

    • @FamilyTripping
      @FamilyTripping  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes we rented a car. Driving in Finland is much easier than you would expect. The winter tyres out there make a huge difference and the route we did was really straightforward, Rovaniemi to Lusoto, to Levi and back to Rov. Just long straight roads. But yes you can buses if you prefer and then try to stay relatively central, wherever you stay. A lot of tour companies, for husky rides, snowmobile etc will pick you up for a fee too.
