I played Riveteers blitz at prerelease. Ognis was an over-performer when I got him out. Blitz was giving me cards and Ognis was giving me mad treasures. I went 5-3 and had a blast.
I'm a red/jund mage, so I'm obviously predisposed to like Ognis. My only worry is that in standard 4 mana is where games start being decided (not win the game, but a player can start leveraging serious advantage) and I don't feel like Ognis can do that. With some of the treasure synergies in a mono-haste deck, landing Ognis may end up being a winning move, but that feels like too much deckbuilding when we have individually powerful cards in the format.
Hot take: Shakedown Heavy is a Phyrexian Arena that blocks and doesn't hurt you. I know it can be removed, but will still be a 1 for 1, or even give you card advantage if not removed on the spot. I love it!!!
It seems like it'll be an all star in the Ob Nixilis BR sacrifice deck where drawing extra cards, having a blocker early game, and then triggering a 6-loyalty copy will be G-A-S. Especially since you got several other tools for that deck in the new set with the Unlucky Witness, Tenacious Underdog, and (possibly) Body Dropper.
Also, if you're going with the Riverteer's Ascendancy route, then you want creatures that give you slightly higher mana value to return your 2 or 1 drops.
Luxior, Giada's Gift is a Superfriends Splash. Since you can equip it to a Planeswalker that isn't a creature, that allows you to have a back up assault plan when your Planeswalker straight strategy has failed. Equip it on a already High Loyalty Planeswalker, and this becomes a pretty huge threat. It's a nitch card, for sure, but in the right deck, it's a backup win con, and you can't dismiss that.
Also protects your Loyalty counters, as you are no longer a Planeswalker and are not treated as one anymore (Can't be attacked. Direct Damage doesn't reduce loyalty). I am sure that also comes in handy occasionally.
I also think the triomes are probably the biggest sin against goldhound. A lot of standard play will likely be focused on tapland on 1, untapped on 2, untapped on 3 (like it is now), and goldhound is a much worse ramp on 2 compared to the other options. So it likely only goes in a deck that isn't committed to that play pattern of lands
I was a monster at my standard events in 2019 with angels. Kaalia with mostly angels... divine visitation with bishop of wings,Chandra, and Seraph of the scales...forgetaboutit
I like turn one treasure dog into turn 2 green treasure maker into turn 3 obnxilous, with 1 open mana. Could pump spell your 3/3 before sac or keep up village rights to sac the a devil token. Or just a shock spell if you were on the play to keep their board clean potentially.
Hey - just curious what your take on You Find Some Prisoners is. I think that card is absolutely busted, myself, because you can play some really good cards for colorless mana cost, or you can get land if you need it, all while giving you information about the opponent’s deck, and disallowing your opponent some potentially crucial draws. Of course there are 2 things that feel bad about it: 1 is that it makes the most sense to play it on turn 2 during your own turn, even though it’s instant speed, to hit them before their draw phase… The other is that you might accidentally get them closer to other cards they need. But it also can just destroy an artifact instead. Your remarks about tainted indulgence primed my curiosity because “You Find Some Prisoners’ is drawing from your opponents deck. Love your content!
There's a pretty obnoxious black/red discard deck in Alchemy right now. It's weakest spot is probably the 3-drop. But now they have Ob Nixilis... so fun times
Sorry if this is an obvious question: In what scenario would using Casualty on Make Disappear be worth it? How could you have a second spell to counter at the time of casting?
If they had 3 mana open to pay the two, the casualty mechanic copying it would make them have to pay 4 to keep their spell. This can also be used if you are worried they will counter your counter, you can get 2 counterspells on the stack targeting the same spell of theirs
Feels very silly to put Goldhound as high on the list as it is while not even having Professional Face-Breaker in the top 10. I think those spots are going to swap by the time the next set drops.
I think he's looking at it from a standpoint of "effect on standard" rather than just individual power level of a card. Professional Face-Breaker will (likely) not be played in as many decks as Goldhound will (could) be. Also, dont underestimate the impact of 1 mana cards versus 3 mana cards. There's a lot more options at 3 mana that are very powerful.
I'm so proud of you Dev. You actually mentioned that a Treasure Token isn't as good as a land into play when talking about them. Also, what are you drinking?
Jimmie Fea is bonkers. I got her in my pre-release and instead of treasure tokens, made all the 3/1 dogs. She won every game for me. Will she be that good in standard? only one way to find out…
i think it demends, in standard vivian can take a minute to come out BUT 4 x 4\4 rhinos is alot in standard. in modern 6 mana is nothing. i think shes cool
The red and black one mana saga's work really well with obs nix. They do damage on turn 1. Do more damage on turn 2 or make your 2 drop +1/+1 bigger. Then they become 2/2 creatures so even if your turn 2 play got killed you will at least have a 2/2 to sac to obs nix. Play obs nix and if you sac a 2/2 you got 5 loyalty which goes to 7 if you plus both and either get 2 card out of their hand or do 4 more damage. Very unlikely they will kill both of them so you will at least get a round with one left in play and can so on. If you are lucky and play a graf reaver or some other 3 power 2 drop with the second part of the red saga you will have a 4/x out and if they do not remove it then you will have 7 loyalty and plus them both to a total of 9 loyalty on two planeswalkers on turn 3.

I honestly think goldhound is better than face breaker.

xander is a bomb, you dont have to use 7 mana obv you can use assemble the parts or 5 mana bring back cards or 5+1 mana dollhouse..
