That intro!! 🤣🤣🤣 You have cornered the market for self deprecating MTG arena content. You are easily the most relatable content creator for MTG arena on TH-cam. I love it. We appreciate you, Dev!
You are wrong my dude, we arent here to just look at cards, we come for your jokes, personality and chill vibes. If we would just care for the cards we would go to mythicspoiler.
Let me rephrase: Dev is the only Magic content creator whose humility and genuineness make me feel comfortable and accepted being a casual player who loves the game, not always the competitiveness
One thing I absolutely love about Grandpa Ed is that he actually seems to work pretty great in multiples because you can basically force a flip and just have this loop where you just. Get 2/2s every turn forever and have the anthem and the 4/4 body forever I think that's. Secretly a phenomenal thing about the card
Can you have multiple legendary artifacts? I assumed not, surely one of them will be forced into the graveyard if the opponent can deal with the creature side of one whilst the other is flipped?
@@poofypeanut0221 Yeah that’s pretty sweet, but the way he described it being forever I thought perhaps he’d overlooked that, or even better if it turned out I’m wrong lol Either way I’m gonna be trying it regardless
@@ryantw4943 at least that’s the way I took it lol. I’m a commander player so this card doesn’t excite me all that much. But there’s a ton in this set I am stoked for!
THANK YOU for acknowledging the Werebear comparison to Taxidermist. It's even on theme for Innistrad being a Werewolf, if only by name. When no one mentioned it I was devastated lol
Honestly I am here for your personality, your 'terrible' (but amazing) jokes, the chill vibe, everything. I haven't been able to make it to a stream in a while but you're my favorite streamer for a reason. In the streams we get to experience more of you as well, which is one of my favorite things ever. Some of my favorite moments are you just joking around or talking about random stuff.
The two cards that just legit scare me are Hullbreaker Horror and Manaform Hellkite, as they are easy inclusions into some truly brutal decks right now. If you flash in a Hullbreaker during an opponent's end step, and follow it up with an Alrund's Epiphany, you are going to absolutely blow them out next turn, and there is basically nothing that they can do about it. Similarly, Hellkite is going to be nuts in the Izzet shells, but also in Gruul, as it summons tokens off of Esika's Chariot and Wrenn, then your Chariot can attack to summon a permanent copy of your largest dragon token. I could see the mono-green shell adding red, simply for Goldspan Dragon and Manaform Hellkite, and that's just a lot of threats to have to remove. Also, one card that you missed is the new alternate win condition (Faithbound Judge). I'm not really afraid of this card because I think that its going to take over the meta, but because it promotes a really toxic sort of deck that plays slowly and only serves to control the board while setting up the alternate win. It's like the old Approach of the Second Sun or Teferi5 decks, and playing against them was just toxic if you weren't prepared. A lot of people are devaluing the threat of the aura because it can be easily bounced, but they haven't taking into account that Spectral Adversary enables you to phase the enchantment out at instant speed, while Epiphany cuts down the time by an extra turn. Also, Hullbreaker could go into this deck for redundancy, so the deck is basically just Judge + Horror + Adversary and a whole heap of control and lands.
I appreciate the time you take to make these videos. I have far less time to devote to studying all things Magic and sadly have even less time to play. Many times I see your videos after buying boxes and sorting and organizing the goodies. I am more of a fun, kitchen table player so the meta is not something I am able to follow. Work takes a lot of my time and I love to hear your thoughts on a lot of these cards. Some of your choices are cards my knee jerk reaction to aligns with. I have been playing since 95 and the often underrated Fallen Empires set. Good old spore counters and saprolings and maybe a Thrull Champion deck… oh Lord of the Pit! I am looking forward to more.
I think dominating vampire shines when you have red cemetery guy, 2/1 flying vampire that creates blood tokens on death, death blade harvester turn 2, Florian turn 3, Anje turn 4, then cast dominating vampire turn vampire turn 5 to take opposing creature and then sac to Anje after combat
My big problem with Dominating Vampire is just that you will often either have a shit board state and not be able to grab something useful because of all the control or you just won't be able to do much with it against many control decks since they don't play creatures anyway. I feel like it's just such a mid card against most control and that control is just way to prominent, that you might as well use something else.
Agree w/ you 100% about Hullbreaker Horror. It absolutely is a good card. It's exactly what Control needs because the current format has no real control finisher. And it's an insane card in the control mirror too. Being able to hold up counters until your opponent's end step and then flash in this guy is game-winning against another control deck. It deserves that #11 ranking, and maybe even better!
Ascendent Packleader is my day one craft 4, it just makes Gruul Werewolves and Mono Green so much more aggressive. Super excited to see how it changes Werewolves. It'll probably still be Tier C but I love those kinds of decks
Alchemist gambit really does just hammer home that wotc has moved on from Simic Being the bastard color pair of the format (and technically UB because rogues) and now they’ve settled on UR that’s drowning in stupidly strong cards that only get better with each set. They just can’t help themselves when it comes to blue.
I always liked Blue Red but never seemed to be able to have anything come together that won consistently since Gelectrode/Prodigal Sorcer/Pyromancer made my friends say take that deck apart…. Of course, that was the last time I used the color combo because it is one of my least favorites.
Dev you should have put yourself as number one on this list. I actually look forward to waking up because I am so excited to watch your videos during the spoiler season. You look wonderful btw :)
I really feel like Manaform Hellkite should be higher, although I am splitting hairs. Playing it and then playing an Epiphany the next turn is going to just very often win you the game. You'd be able to hit in for what, 6/7 on your first turn? Then 2 from the birds and 4 from the Hellkite. Then 7 from Hall of Storm Giants or who knows what else you might end up casting. That's 19 or 20 damage. And it doesn't get much weaker with Epiphany being replaced by Alchemist's Gambit, assuming they do ban Epiphany. Also, I am really surprised that Avabruck Caretaker isn't on this list? It's a hexproof card that can rapidly grow out of control or grow your other cards out of control. It's going to be absurdly hard for many decks to deal with. And in the mean time, it is just going to keep stacking value on top of itself or other creatures. And once you get it to transform, which isn't really all that hard, then it becomes a god. I'd go so far as to say that it might just be better in a Simic deck that's built to Ramp into it and then protect it with counter spells. Then you could also play The Celestus to help ramp, get access to card selection, lifegain, easy ability to transform her. We will certainly have to see, but it seems like an absurd card to me.
Best Combo in Red/Black Vampires - Gluttonous Guest + Marauding Blight-Priest = unstoppable ping damage in Standard. You have a ton of new blood counter enablers. Build up a bunch of “useless” Tokens. The. Drop Guest & Marauder and start the pain train.
Completely agree with your top choice. Ambush viper and counter spell all in one. Also a legitimate threat. Overcharged Amalgam is gonna be a major player moving forward, I believe. Thanks for the list, keep up the great work!
I originally came here for the cards, but I also come from Georgia and you remind me of it when I'm homesick which is kinda silly, but also I love content. keep up the good work.
Agreed that Edgar's flavor is more like Dracula (considering the card) than Sorin is. I like Edgar so much. I'm glad he's on the list. But this actually may be where I disagree with ya Dev. I expect Edgar to not be very good. But part of me likes that he made the list anyway, because he's my kinda card.
As a long time fan, I don't view self-promotion negatively. I see it as part of your job. You do great work, Dev. You don't have to feel bad talking about it.
I'm surprised the Ill-Tempered Loner didn't make the cut, I think that card is going to be a bigger problem than people expect, even without the angelfire combo
@@andrewyoungquist9941 Combat damage gets reflected, too, and it can be pumped pretty easily. If you can play it on the night side and have a few guys out to attack you can do a lot of harm right away.
I'd have to say avabruck caretaker is my #1 card. In limited you lose, in standard if you don't have a board wipe or counter you lose. Big fan of this one

I definitely agree with both. Of course, Westgate Regent is only 1 turn slower and it doesn't get much play, so I am curious how much play that will get. But hell yes with the blue cemetery spirit. It plus Demilich seems hella powerful. Also, you can definitely stack your deck to a degree where you have an extremely high chance to hit with the blue cemetery card anyhow. dig up and evolving wilds are so good together, like removing 16 lands out of your deck and giving you a better draw/power overall. Also if you meet the secondary condition its a pull your gold card out of deck. so good in werewolf where you are looking for many of your combo pieces
Leyline Tyrant wasn't a bad card. As a lot of us said at the time, it was a good card that had absolutely no home in the meta. It was a mono red midrange card that couldn't work in the super-agro mono red decks at the time. And then mono red stopped being a viable deck all together after rotation and midrange of all colors is barely viable. By contrast, Manaform Hellkite ABSOLUTELY has a home in the current Standard meta, in the dragon-ized version of Izzit Epiphany. This card absolutely LOVES Memory Deluge. Only question is whether the deck needs Hellkite. Goldspan is still better. Do you reduce your number of copies of Smoldering Egg to run Hellkite? Maybe? Do you run 10 dragons instead of 8? Maybe? Will be fun to test.
Only reason I disagree with the Cemetery cycle ranking for Cemetery Prowler is that he's a doggo and therefore deserves the number 1 slot. Simple as that. Otherwise, great list!
Could Overcharged Amalgam actually stifle the trigger on an un-cleaved Alchemist's Gamble? Play Gamble on turn 3, take extra turn, then flash in the Amalgam when the cleave trigger goes on the stack and have gotten a free turn with no downside?
Overcharged Amalgam almost gives me Mistbind Clique/Spellstutter Sprite vibes. If it really does turn out to be that good, there could be another aggro-control deck in Standard? But I love the uncommons in this list; this set really does look powerful.
