6:57 usually the R.511 randomly exploding isn’t actually random. If you look at its FOV, it’s 10° before *and* after launch. Anytime the missile has to lead ahead of the target, it will lead so far ahead that it can’t even see the target anymore. Basically it’s only useful in direct headons or rear aspect. If they’re angled more like like 5° off your nose it’s not even worth it.

I wish we got really soon (at best next update) the Mirage4000. 10x magics 2 on a plane with twr>1.1 would be amazing. Also magic2 are still far from what they should be. Better irrcm (They use a Co2 detector to differentiate aircraft from flares), 50G, more range etc etc..
I want the Mirage 4000 so bad. If they can take creative liberties with the Yak-141 to give us a "what if" production Yak-41M, I'd absolutely love for them to do the same so we can get the Mirage 4000 in the game.
5:49 Friend I play with usually tries to bait people into a frontal attack with him before lobbing a Nord at them. It's surprisingly effective and he has gotten top teir kills with that strategy.
That's literally how I'm getting consistent kills with the g91y. People still head on everything regardless of BR so it is super effective, but it's risky as you need to fire it very late
AS-30L's are brilliant in Ground RB for anti-helicopter duties since Heli pilots at that BR are so used to MAWS Flare spam defeating IR missiles that they almost never even try to dodge it.
I am slightly mad Gaijin called the Nord-Aviation AA/AS 20 the Nord, it's like if I called the FIM 92 "Raytheon" or the R-27 "Vympel" Also fun fact, the ATLIS pod was accidentally made into a A/A pod as they found out during testing it could lock and track Mystere IV's The 530F had a CW seeker at first, but it was dropped due to no tracking as good as the pulse one (hence why the Cyrano III and IV had an optional CW seeker) What i would like to see is the M2K-S3 with the RDM+ radar that got a CW module to use 530Ds. It would be worse than the S5 but could mean a CW seeker at a lower BR
DO NOT sleep on the AA20 Nord. I finally tried it out during my G.91Y stock grind, and it actually came in really handy. Two practical uses for it, as far as I could tell. First, slamming someone in a head-on is very funny. Sadly, doesn't always work, but it worked enough to justify taking them, and got me some very stupid kills while not having to take a full-commit head-on. Second, and also kinda funny, using them from a greater distance to force someone to turn away in a head-on, giving you an opportunity for a gun kill. Less effective in a chase, but can still work.
Came here after Seek's video on evading the more advanced IR AAMs. Man, what a great explanation of how the missiles work, how Gajin modeled them into the game, and the most effective techniques to counter them. That video made it into my 'War Thunder Tutorial' playlist! Well done man, well done!
If the Magic 2 gets multi-plane authority and 50G, I fully expect Stingers and Mistrals to become nothing short of HORRIFYING. Imagine NATO MANPADS as they are now, but capable of pulling around twice as hard. RIP any aircraft within 4km
Stingers and Mistrals would be unaffected. The issue with the Magic 2 is not just that it’s dual-plane maneuverability was 50G. It’s that the Magic 2 IRL has a special control section that can actually rotate around the body of the missile. This means that it actually *never* uses single-plane maneuverability and can always take advantage of the full 50G. I don’t think Stingers or Mistrals use this system so it’s kinda unrelated. Also Gaijin has already confirmed they are fixing MANPADS.

@jaek_898 gaijin Invention. There's 530 and 530R (new better rocket) but the head change does not matter in designation. So Gaijin invented the E to separate the EM and IR head switch
The D stands for Dopler, its the first of the 530 family to have access to a dopler radar for guidance rather than just the old mirage 3 search or just mti on the mirage F1 that's why
On the chaff rejection for the 530F, the last I had heard about it was they closed all tickets on it and said it is working as intended in its current form. That was like two months ago though, so I'm not sure if they changed that again. Though supposedly it has chaff rejection in rear and front aspect now, but I need to test it

Been using them also in the Jaguar E, but since they have changed the laser lock (the green circle always being outside the aircraft now insted of on the aircraft) i would now only try to use them if the enemy tries to land on their airfield to finish them off.
The green circle thing is just a visual inconsistency. If you go into the laser sight view, you’ll see the designator is actually tracking just fine. It still hits planes just as well as it did before.
The magic 2s really suffer in head-on engagements, I’ve got maybe a 5% success rate with head-ons, they a very easy flared front aspect, and that 1.8s fuse delay makes them useless being fired anything less than 2km in front. They also really suffer from not have a sustainer motor, as they have very little range, and you’d be lucky to hit someone flying away from you only 1.8km ahead. Side aspect, unless you’re above or they’re flying towards you, 2km is as far as you want to fire from. It’s a huge difference from aim9ms as I’d get killed from 5+ km away with those, but at least they got the arming time nerfed

France has to be nerfed so people don't complain, that's the saddest statement I came to realise when playing France in WT, quite the underdog and unexpected competition but I still quite enjoy them despite all the bullshit they suffer from. Also, I know the British Jaguar has them too, but those rockets (Forgot the name...) that deploy multiple arrows like APFSDS is very hilarious to kill people in heads-on with.
7:12 a (maybe not so) fun fact about missiling a tu4, because this missile has an 8km launch limit (even though the radar can lock from like 40km)+ the fact that the missile flies so darn slow, if you missile a tu4 in a headon from max range by the time the missile reaches the tu4 you are actually close enough to just have used guns instead 💀
R530 should technically also have chaff rejection because the 530 and 530F use almost the exact same AD26 monopulse seeker with rate limiter, just the major difference being the compatibility with the Cyrano IV radarset on the 530F seeker. But this wouldnt be relevant for most planes that the R530 is on because they lack PD radar anyway

about the 511 his poor performance is mainly caused by his lead equations being trash and the fact that he flies like a plane so basically he have to roll to pull in the direction he wants
Anyone have any idea what has happened to the Magic 1s? I cannot get a kill with them at all now and they used to be great. Just insta flared and even chasing a mig 19 from 2km it still didnt connect.. They just feel useless now
I have to agree that the French magics are great and better than any other missiles at 10.3. The matra radar missiles are hard to get used to. The super matra is for example totally unusable against American fighters like f14 and f16 cause their radar is way better and when your missiles gets outplayed by 1 chaff it's kinda useless. The only situation they shine is against russian fighter where you aren't be seen 200km away
my biggest grief with the radar missiles france has is that the radars on anything but the f1s and 2000s are so fucking finicky. I climb high and rush to nail any americans that are sleeping but even when i see the damn contrail and im pointing the nose the radar is still blind. Any tips? also i fly a spaded 3c mirage
I feel like the Magic2s could get buffed by simply adding a (nonhistorical) double pylon. Like, sure, those double pylons did not exist, but for the love of god, it is not like that would make the Mirage 2k suddenly ultragood. It is a fine plane, don't get me wrong, but in comparison to Mig29 and F-16, it is not exactly that good.
You know, you mention chaff rejection on the 530F and... Couldn't Gaijin just give it a CW seeker and be done with it? Like, for the love of god, the F1C is pretty damn helpless comared to a Mig23MLA or other, more capable planes at 11.3.
They could, and that would fix all of its problems and make it a very good missile. But I don't think they would ever do that, it's too much of a stretch. They try to keep missiles as realistic as reasonably possible.

IMO it should have been added quite a while ago at 11.0 with Magic 1s. I think by giving it Magic 2s theyre pushing it up in BR and trying to make it something it's not. It would make a pretty good 11.0 with Magic 1s, and the matchmaker would be a lot more forgiving. It's not stellar at 11.3 but with all the buffs to the magic 2 and with the mirage's flight model buff I think it's fine at its BR now. I actually enjoy playing it.

gotta b honest, my favourite missile in the game is the aa20 nords, quite literally the best weapon against helis, if you learn their speed and how far they actually are from your target, you can quite easily kill anything, they have a 15(?) if not 20meter proxy fuse and if a heli is lacking, you will get your 18k SL every time
It was 6.3 on release and there could be more than 4 of them per team. They could also win games by bombing the airfield, AND they would get 5.3 games constantly. If you were playing a prop, assuming you could even get to them in time, their cannons would vaporize you. And if you didnt, they would just auto-win the game without rearming.

I'm nearing 500 battles in the vautour (late) and had my great deal of fun with the r.511s. My advice is to take 3 AA.20s and 1 r.511. Looking at the pylons from the front of the aircraft it should be AA.20 R511 AA.20 AA.20 (yes in that order so that the weight of the wing is more distributed if you fire AA.20s first). You will get the most use of the R.511 at around 5-6km mainly going for bombers and afk climbers. (I recommend right after spawning flying straight until you reach 1000kph and then put it to a 15 degree climb until you reach 5-6km height). Also, don't forget to switch your radar to 20km range and narrow the search area to the narrowest one for easy locks. You can't exactly maintain a lock with any terrain interference, so the only kills you're going to be getting is right at the start of the match and on very distracted, stalled out targets. One last thing, when firing at a closing in target from 8km give your missile a little loft so it has that little bit of extra height in case it needs to glide a bit.

I feel like the Magic2s could get buffed by simply adding a (nonhistorical) double pylon.
Like, sure, those double pylons did not exist, but for the love of god, it is not like that would make the Mirage 2k suddenly ultragood.
It is a fine plane, don't get me wrong, but in comparison to Mig29 and F-16, it is not exactly that good.
it did exist, temporarily, on the F8, but was quickly abandoned as they were made doe Sidewind-ER's could not resist the Magic's launch impulse

You know, you mention chaff rejection on the 530F and... Couldn't Gaijin just give it a CW seeker and be done with it? Like, for the love of god, the F1C is pretty damn helpless comared to a Mig23MLA or other, more capable planes at 11.3.
They could, and that would fix all of its problems and make it a very good missile. But I don't think they would ever do that, it's too much of a stretch. They try to keep missiles as realistic as reasonably possible.

At 11.3, the F1C is not exactly stellar, so either they give the 530F a fictional pulse seeker or the F1C goes down to 11.0 or something.
IMO it should have been added quite a while ago at 11.0 with Magic 1s. I think by giving it Magic 2s theyre pushing it up in BR and trying to make it something it's not. It would make a pretty good 11.0 with Magic 1s, and the matchmaker would be a lot more forgiving.
It's not stellar at 11.3 but with all the buffs to the magic 2 and with the mirage's flight model buff I think it's fine at its BR now. I actually enjoy playing it.

But given that other planes at the same BR boast far greater performance, it begs the question if it wouldn't be better to have a F1C early and F1C late. Or F1A and F1C to differentiate the two.
Would also make more sense later on, because apparently the F1C could carry the MICA, which, as you alluded to, would be ridiculous.

They added it recently. Use the radar beyond/within visual range combat a second time (the same one you use to enter ACM from search)

Firestreak is an IR missile and fireflash is SACLOS (mouse guided)

There were changes to the engine and to drag and to the range table but I dont recall anything about the things you mentioned

gotta b honest, my favourite missile in the game is the aa20 nords, quite literally the best weapon against helis, if you learn their speed and how far they actually are from your target, you can quite easily kill anything, they have a 15(?) if not 20meter proxy fuse and if a heli is lacking, you will get your 18k SL every time

There are other manual guided missiles, but the AA20 and Rb05 are the only ones I know of that have a proximity fuse.

It was 6.3 on release and there could be more than 4 of them per team. They could also win games by bombing the airfield, AND they would get 5.3 games constantly. If you were playing a prop, assuming you could even get to them in time, their cannons would vaporize you. And if you didnt, they would just auto-win the game without rearming.

French particularly are better for naming BECAUSE it is most if the time an acronym who need mire brain to find! @@Solveig.Tissot I'm surprised anyone saw this comment lol. But I don't see how my view of french planes is wrong. They have a few decent contenders but the majority of them are planes originating from other nations. The only good original planes I can think of offhand are the mirage 2k/4k

I'm nearing 500 battles in the vautour (late) and had my great deal of fun with the r.511s. My advice is to take 3 AA.20s and 1 r.511. Looking at the pylons from the front of the aircraft it should be AA.20 R511 AA.20 AA.20 (yes in that order so that the weight of the wing is more distributed if you fire AA.20s first). You will get the most use of the R.511 at around 5-6km mainly going for bombers and afk climbers. (I recommend right after spawning flying straight until you reach 1000kph and then put it to a 15 degree climb until you reach 5-6km height). Also, don't forget to switch your radar to 20km range and narrow the search area to the narrowest one for easy locks. You can't exactly maintain a lock with any terrain interference, so the only kills you're going to be getting is right at the start of the match and on very distracted, stalled out targets. One last thing, when firing at a closing in target from 8km give your missile a little loft so it has that little bit of extra height in case it needs to glide a bit.
