      Given the capabilities of the Neural Processor Units (NPUs) integrated in most new cell phones these days, I suspect it won't be long before we see a Universal Translator like the famed Babble Fish from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy or the ones used in Star Trek. It's well within the realm of possibility for your cellphone to listen to someone speaking to you and translating their language into your language in real time sending the translated voice to your earbuds. Similarly, your speech could be translated by their cellphone into their language. This will be particularly useful when you encounter a Klingon - just sayin😊
      That's my two scents!

    Lars, great update. A friend of mine lives in Chicago and has a Tesla. He said that the charging issue there was that one or more people left the charge cable in the snow instead of stowing it properly back in the charger. I guess there are too many careless Americans. The Swedish and Danish don't seem to have this problem!

    I wish GM nothing but the worst! Owning a Pontiac in the past and realizing the absolute stupidity of their design blew me away, also working in a garage, the amount of issues GM, Ford, Chrysler had was out of this world! Without those companies the garage would be dead slow. Meanwhile, Civics pretty much just came in for oil change and tires. What a difference! When the government bailed them out around 2008, instantly, all the big shots gave themselves huge bonuses with the tax payer dollars that were given to them.

      Had in 54 years only one US-car. The first and the last, a Pontiac with lots of cost and problems. Mostly in 54 years cars I owned German Premium which were considered good but in TCO by lack of alternatives they costed me another fortune besides sales price. Since two years I own my first electric Korean car and had not one problem since driving a performant Kia EV6 AWD which beats most of previous cars I had. By the way here in Switzerland I once imported Honda Civic and Accord when they first came to market and after selling British junk cars with lots of costly repairs for customers the Hondas were the first generation of cars ever with no problems. And even parts we got in days while my Pontiac once needed parts here in Europe that took six months and when they finally arrived they no more fitted in plastics color, what never happened at Honda at the time. When living in Texas later I had a Hyundai from the company offering a Lincoln also, the Hyundai I appreciated very much, but it was not yet on the level of all my European car I owned before. The Lincoln was show only but not my ride. But the Hyundai Group EV now are class of its own coming absolutely close to Tesla, which I do personally not like for different reason regarding too many little things that are only electronically available. But still I believe fully in my shares and Tesla’s learning fast and offering solutions all inclusive and not just cars. This was also the way of my company of doing things - we sold solutions and not products!

      Be only careful with the claim of no service necessary. Also Tesla should be serviced at least in Europe to pass TÜV where the cars come in with lots of small issues that cannot be fixed OTA!

    I think one important thing that is misunderstood about digital camera sensors is that they are typically provided with electronic filters that block light outside the human visible range (e.g.,, gamma radiation, X-rays, ultraviolet, infrared, microwaves, and radio-waves). Deleting these electronic filters and allowing the camera sensors to detect "all the photons" not only lowers cost and image processing steps/time, but also allows the camera sensors to detect wavelengths beyond the human visible range (e.g., a full spectrum camera). The additional information provided by infrared and ultraviolet wavelengths are particularly useful for driving. Infrared wavelengths are transmitted through rain, snow, fog, smoke, and darkness, potentially allowing computer vision to see clearly under these conditions which may impair or obstruct human vision. Ultraviolet wavelengths allow chemical detection and may be able to identify invisible gases (e.g., methane, airborne toxins), distinguish visible gases and vapor (e.g., differentiate fog from smoke), detect microbial contaminants, material type (e.g., distinguish cardboard and paper from metal or rubber in the roadway). These enhanced visual capabilities combined with artificial intelligence signal processing techniques, should allow computer vision systems a wide range of detection and identification capabilities beyond those necessary for vehicle operation and road/marine/aviation/interplanetary navigation. Tesla, SpaceX, and others are likely using such cheaper, more robust, full spectrum cameras in their vehicles. In short Tesla's and other vehicles should eventually be able to drive much better than humans and successfully navigate conditions that would prevent human driving (e.g., full darkness, smoke, thick fog, blizzard, sandstorm, etc.). Tesla's forthcoming robots should also have visual capabilities that allow uses beyond human vision (e.g., quality control, survey measurement and mapping, food freshness and nutritional content detection, medical diagnostic assessment, etc.). For Tesla's computer vision systems, the future looks very bright indeed.

      Electronic filters CANNOT "block" light. They can process the image sensed by the camera AFTER the light has hit it, but if there's enough light hitting it to drive the sensors far enough into nonlinearity, information will be irretrievably lost.

    • @lyfandeth
      @lyfandeth 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Only if the actual photon sennsors, the image cells, are responsive to those wavelengths, and the sensor provides a means to segregate and read that data. Which current dendors mainly don't, beyond sligjt IR and UV. X-rays and gamma rayes are not considered "light" either.

    The cultural differences between Europe and the Eastern U.S. is quite striking. I just read an article about a guy who rented a Hertz 240 mile range Model 3 to visit relatives during the holidays, his 2000 mile trip was full of calamities that I’m sure Europeans don’t experience. Americans seem to be slower in their abilities to operate a Tesla. Attempting a long range trip in a short range Tesla was the authors first mistake, a 60-70 mile range difference may not seem a lot but it makes a big difference on a road trip. I’m in California but it seems a dual motor long range Tesla would make a big difference in the cold and snow as well. Americans don’t seem to understand the importance of preconditioning the batteries, they tend to drive them to zero and wonder why a cold battery won’t charge. Americans don’t seem to understand the computer capabilities of a Tesla , the author came the city of Cleveland, couldn’t find a Supercharger and exclaimed there were no Superchargers in Cleveland, a quick Google check shows about 15 Superchargers in Cleveland. Thank goodness for Europeans showing the way for electrification, I’m not sure East coast Americans are up to the task.

Faster boats trying to catch one that's already halfway across the ocean---their combined closing miles don't matter, only the approach speed of the fastest one. Bet on the boat that's way ahead. Lee , The Tesla Economist, called Tesla out for FSD, and the 4680, calling them a failure. True neither has produced much yet, but the process is ongoing , and it s too early to give up on them. I think some people are losing focus on the fact that Tesla is a long term company with a great future. How can you write off the company that has all of these thing that Lars named in the video going for it. And people forget that FSD and Optimus are long term future projects, and energy products are also long term. You can’t write Elon and Tesla off just because of the short term. Lee also called out the “ fanboys “ for turning everything Tesla does into a positive “ , well Lee, it is. Most companies will fail at something , but that’s no reason to write off Tesla as a failure, at least that’s the way he a spun it. Where would successful companies be, Ford, Apple , Coke, Chic-Fil-A, Toyota, Netflix, Taylor Swift, etc, without fans hyping the product or the company. Plus they all have advertising. Fanboys are why Tesla doesn’t really need advertising, it is the advertising. And where in the world in the last decade would the whole electric vehicle industry be without those “ Tesla Fanboys “ ? Probably almost non existent….. 🤔
