    Just thought about it. There's approximately 3,000 members in a stake. 90,000 submissions since 2015 is the loss of 30 stakes in 6 years!

    • @t-pain3343

      That doesn't factor the people who just walk away and don't take the time to resign. My mom, dad, sister, her 3 kids and brother in law never resigned and haven't been to church in 4 years. So in reality it's likely well over 100 stakes the last 5 years

    • @mindeloman
      @mindeloman 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@t-pain3343 yep.....completely agree. And I think that is being seen in some of the more liberal parts of the county. My sister tells the church is noticeably retracting in Oregon. I don't have specifics on that. It's just her observation. The real irony: My dad served his mission in Oregon. His mission went back and forth with a mission in Brazil on being the top baptizing mission in the world.

    • @ChristopherSalisburySalz
      @ChristopherSalisburySalz 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That makes me happy! I try not to be negative towards the church but if I'm being honest I kind of hate it.

    Mark saved me from the harassment. Despite my demands they would not stop knocking on my door. One lady said I am on the records and I don't have the authority to ask them to leave me and my wife alone. The very next day I went to Mark. I guess they read my demands in church because now they cross the street while walking past my house. I don't want to be a dic neighbor but they force you into it. Mark got the waiting period waved so I didn't have to live through the shaming period. I'm very grateful for the work Mark does. Thank you!

    I left the Church in the late 1970’s and submitted my resignation letter in 1978. The convened a Bishop’s Court in 1980 and I went there to discuss my reason for leaving, Christianity never left the earth, Joseph Smith was absolutely not a prophet, and the Mormons are polytheistic. Those were my three reasons. The Bishop’s Court listen and then told me they are going to excommunicate me. They told me if I ever changed my mind, I would be welcomed back with open arms. There was no resigning in that day, they had to drag you through the mud, and they announced it in Church (this I was told, true or not, I’m not sure). I said, thank you regardless of the person cost or humiliation. I left, happier than ever!

    • @mindeloman
      @mindeloman 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I could have my facts wrong so please feel free to correct - i think before the 1980's the only way out of the church was excommunication. The church offered no way for resignation short of that. I recall reading there was a lawsuit filed sometime in the early 80's and it forced the church to actually provide a way for resignation without the indignity of a "court of love." But they still make you walk thr gauntlet. And let's never forget: the church is like the hotel California. You can check in any time you like, but you can NEVER leave. You are on permanent file with them. Resignation accomplishes getting you off the public contact list.

But as Mark and John pointed out, the next tithing settlement my dad noticed on the list of BIC (born in the covenant) children. Oh my I didn’t realize that my dad could see that I resigned! I just went to get my letter notarized today but I haven’t sent it in yet. He’s in his late 80’s and my mom has already passed away. I want to resign 100% but I don’t want to be treated any differently once it’s official. They know I’m inactive of course and have been for years but I don’t want his heart broken. Out of us seven children my brother was the one who was super vocal about leaving but I have kept everything a secret and we don’t talk about it. I know it’s what I need to do of course, but I swear the church makes this so difficult 😣 it’s invasion of privacy in my opinion. I should be able to leave and have the option of nobody else knowing about it!

Living in Salt Lake City seeing teens living on the streets homeless during the winter because they came out as gay and their parents threw them out of the house. Christ like my ass. I am so grateful to have found Mark, and he got me, my husband and our son out for the last time (we had previously resigned 20 years earlier, went back through the grueling process to be re-baptized) in February 2017 and we have not looked back. And in America there is no legal recourse for this. The organization considers the records theirs and claims this is a matter of freedom of religion.

They take the money, you never see it again, it's not disclosed where it's going and you find out they are wineing and dining at the top it's enough. I would suggest anyone leave now like I did and save the rest of your life. They treat you horribly when you don't pay them. What's that ring? NO talks, NO callings and threats of cursings, burning and family separation is simply a Ponzi scheme. A real bad one. Run...Use Mark like I did!! LIVE AGAIN!!!

    The case law is there and should be codified in FEDERAL law for fines and bounties collected by the IRS. Making us file a lawsuit in too onerous. It is a blatant civil rights violation

    We left the church 5 years ago but never formally resigned until mid-March. We resigned because we don't want our children's names on the local records. We've gotten several letters for the kids because they're on the rolls. The fact that our home is on a map listing our children hasn't technically been a problem, but the potential is there for people to abuse that information. Still waiting...

    I’m one of those dreaded pro se’s. I never formally left the Mormon church, mostly because I don't recognize that the church has any actual authority over me.
    What is the law on a Mormon member getting their own church records (which is another reason I haven't resigned)? I’d be willing to file my own case if I can't get my records without litigation.

    I submitted identical letters to my bishop and stake pres. at the same time. Included name, member number, baptism date. Stated my request to have my name removed from the records of the church. Acknowledge that I understood it would render my baptism, priesthood and other ordinances such as sealing ineffectual. Acknowledge that I understood the only way the reverse this was to be re-baptised. Asked that the normal 30 waiting period be waived. Then I signed and dated it. I received a reply that it had been processed less than 30 later.

    John you should host a yearly Ex-Mormon convention!!! A lot of your guests could have their own booth for photos with attendees! You could give the opening non-prayer ;) There could be food vendors of Mormon potatoes, green jello and taffy polls ;)

    That’s crazy, I am a non practicing Catholic, I know I am still on the books, but no one has ever contacted me, and if I went to the priest at the church I went to, he wouldn’t know if I had or hadn’t been attending services, how do they keep track of so many people?

    Mormons are the best example of, "Nice does not equal good. These are not synonymous. Nice people are not good people, and some good people are not nice." This has taken me a long time to learn. But watching House of Cards definitely helped. :P

    I sent a signed letter and my temple recommend to mormon records, I received a confirmation letter from them a couple weeks later. Best day ever🤗 this was in Nov 2021. I didn't have it notorized. Copied my letter from net, crossed off the unnecessary stuff, printed my name and signed. I guess my member # was ok.

    I got a phone call from the church asking me for details about my brother's address, phone number and personal information when my brother was serving in the Army in Germany. I said I would have to ask him first and the woman became indignant and said something like "But I'm calling from the Church!". I told her "That's the problem" and hung up. They are so full of themselves. They have gotten visibly upset with me at Temple Square numerous times. They can be tone deaf and pushy

    Oh my goodness! Mark’s fear of Satan as a child totally sounds like my youngest daughter. I was raised atheist/agnostic, but once I had my first daughter I went running toward Christianity and landed as a Seventh Day Adventist. My youngest daughter went to an SDA school for all of elementary and junior high. In second or third grade she developed an obsessive fear of Satan, and Hell. The SDA church also is pretty anti-Catholic, when her Sabbath school class would discuss that it, on more than one occasion, led her to tears. We left the SDA church by the time that daughter we switched to United Church of Christ. That worked for me because I am a fairly left-wing Democrat. We stayed at UCC for about four years. Now, mostly we are pagan,; no dancing naked on the full moon, no sacrificing, we do not belong to a coven.....no tithing, no evangelizing, no guilt for not being good enough.
    I log onto your channel once every month or so even though I have never been LDS. Because your channel discusses sex and the LDS church occasionally; I want to address one thing about the SDA church we belonged to. The pastor would discuss his pornography eduction during his sermon! My husband, who did not go to church with us, described it as “euphoric recall”. It was kind of almost like an exhibitionist.
    Anyway, I kind of rambled.
    Thanks for listening.

      Thanks for sharing your story. While I was born to a Mormon family and because of my dad’s job, we moved around a lot. Including a 5 years outside of the US. So as a child, we attended a SDA school because it was the only elementary school that taught in English. That means for years, I had SDA religious class every day. What fascinates me is that there are some similarities between Mormonism and the Adventist. But that makes sense because they were both born during the Second Great Awakening and in the same general area. And I can also say there are some weird church going people who’ve been super obsessed with sex so much, it even came up in sermons or talks!
      I ended up the opposite as you; I’m actually an atheist now and can not justify a belief in a deity. But wouldn’t life be boring if we all believed the same thing? ;)
      Stay safe.

    I got them to stop coming when we lived in Ogden by telling them I was Catholic (raised, not a believer) and they could have an hour to tell me about being Mormon if I could have an hour to tell them about being Catholic. They never came back. We lived 2 doors down from a ward church and people would actually cross the street to not walk in front of our house after that. It was funny.

    When I moved no one knew my address. Then I went to visit some people a few years after I had been in that ward and my well meaning former neighbor got my address so they could send me Christmas cards.... never got a card. I did get home teachers with a plant. Then I got endless mailings from the ward. After I wrote the bishop a letter asking them to back off, I got a bag of apricots and half were rotten. It was at that point I wrote the bishop another letter asking to have my name off the books. He sent it to church offices and I then got the letter saying I had thirty days to change my mind or was going to Hell. Thirty days came and went and then my final removal letter. That was about 2007 or 08. No regrets.
