The amount of chlorine in tap water will not affect or be a problem for rinsing filter media. The chlorine would have to be I. Contact your filter media for over 20 minutes before it will affect anything. @rickywoods3101
All I use is my tap water. Those Seachem Tidals are awesome HOB filters. Used to have a Tidal55 on my 40 breeder community tank. I did replace it with a Fluval 07 series canister filter, but if that goes out I would hook that Tidal55 back up in a second and it would go straight to work like the day I got it. Awesome video and tanks dude keep up the good work and keep your fish friends close 🐟 🐠
Great information Mel. Perfect idea to back it up with a professionals credentials 👍. So many fish keepers just simply aren’t aware of the facts. Good job on this video!
Aloha! Thanks for the beautiful views and advice. I personally tap water rinse my sponges, but I shake my media bags in a bucket of aquarium water (just to be safe). I've never had an issue with this method either. It's up to the aquarist to decide!
I like that volcano tank, new sub here and I've always used tap water because I learned that from Jason, I'm a 2 year newby fish keeper, and I learn from guys like you and Jason. Thanks...
Yes I see Jason but also Joanna at Small Scapes, because I don't have a huge tank like yours. I love their channels too. For those of you who have nano tanks her channel is awesome.
Hey Mate a Monday Lunchtime video down here today👍. Interesting topic today. When i clean my filter media i wash half of it in tap water and leave half till next time. This i might have to give a go man always give anything new a try. You never stop learning in this hobby. Anyway cool video as always. Good onya Mate👍👍🙂.
I put mine in the washing machine and give its a rinse cycle the big tip for this is wait until the management goes out ,,,, imo its a good thing to use 2 filters clean 1 monthly totally allowing it to recolonise with fresh bb also i had fish ponds long b4 there were any external filters to buy the water was filtered by waterfalls only and rocks in the pond although stocking levels had to be lower back in the day
If the washing machine rince cycle works for you ok. The problem is it will use more water than nessasary, use more energy you are paying for than nessasary, and it can clog or ruin your washing machine. Also the rinse cyle does not ring out the filter media as well as you squeezing the media under the tap. Also the water contact time in the washing machine is more than you may want. Also if there is any soap or chemical residue in the washing machine this could potentially be harmful.
Ive always cleaned my filters and sponge / bio media with tap water i also always clean one to two weeks the gunk makes the water cloudy plus you have bacteria in your substrate on decor and rocks plus i always dose stability after and yesss lava rock by the tons keeps the water clean and sparkling 🎉
It is okay. Because the bottom of the hob filter already has beneficial bacteria. Same for all the potted plants, rocks, and the pond and aquarium walls all also have beneficial bacteria ☝️
excuse me mr micro bio sir !? what if my tap water comes out at 456tds ! i use RO water or part RO water in my tanks to bring the TDS down in my tanks while i do changes so my tanks are less then tap !!! i pull my sponges out and use tap water to clean every one every week or 2 (or month even) !??!?!? this is only the case when you water is good and clean from your tap !!! imagine trying to sound smart and give a massive speech on stage but only telling half the story !!!!!! Jason has an idea ! but not the whole idea sorry
He could totally help you he’s the man when it comes to this topic! His talk was based on a certain level of Chlorine that is the average in most water out of the tap, thank you so much for the love 🤙🏽♥️💯
Yup, been cleaning filters with tap water for years, no issues at all. Jason from Prime Time just validates doing it, which was nice to see.
Hell yeah he’s the best!!💯🤙🏽♥️
don't do it if the tank hasn't been established for a while, or if you have water from a plant that uses alot of chlorine and Chloramine.
