This is god advice. There are tons of WordPress jobs on Upwork that don't require programming skills. Most of the time there is a plugin to do what the client needs. No need to code it yourself if a solution already exists. Learning how to troubleshoot WordPress issues is also incredibly valuable. Like fixing a plugin or theme update that crashes a site, plugin or theme conflicts, WordPress quirks, etc.
I'm 19 year old and in college, I want to become a freelance web developer to first of all help my parents, I live in a small town in India so even 200-300 dollars a month would be great start, thanks for the video

Hey man, thank you for your advice. It is very helpful to know what is needed for taking on real job with WP. I was quite confused about it and now the path is clear.
Hi, thank you so much for the video! You gave my confidence to get started with Upwork! I'm a housewife and the skill of Wordpress Setup & Designing is just newly gained. I'm struggle to get started with Upwork because I don't have any porfolio to be show to, and I was thinking what I don't have. And you're right, I should focus on what I can provide instead of what I'm lack of... Thank you!
Yes for sure it's better, even necessary, to submit more proposals as opposed to spending lots of time on each one. I used to do the latter and it takes the wind out of your sails when you don't get replies. Below are 3 points of advice, if you want them, take them lol. 1. Apply to the most recent and relevant jobs possible. I check on the job feed almost any time I think about it. 2. Write shorter, to-the-point proposals, addressing the problems that stand out from their job posting. 3. Build your profile as well as you can, even if your portfolio pieces are just screenshots of practice projects.
I wish I had seen this video right when you uploaded it. I'm halfway a coding bootcamp and I've been struggling with finances due to my 8 hour schedule. I'm definitely going to apply my css and Bootstrap knowledge and make money from it :D

Hi Taylor, many thanks for this valuable video. I consider my self a beginner, even I have good knowledge in HTML and CSS. I had always that idea fixed in my head, that I must learn every thing to mastery and then start to freelance. But considering what you say, that is totally right. But, can you please explain to me what do you mean to use WordPress for design or to build websites. How can I use my knowledge in HTML and CSS on WordPress? I want to ask you if you can give me some suggestion about learning and understanding ins and outs of WordPress to be sure that I can solve any issue with the client website, because this is my nightmare in this field, I always have fear of just thinking that the client website get broken. Many thanks to you.
Thank you for the comment! I would start by using CSS to customize (and also create) WordPress block patterns. Find a design to copy and build it with the block editor and CSS. Regarding client websites braking, it's just important to have reliable backups. And the site shouldn't break anyways if you are using reliable, well-maintained themes and plugins. Everything comes with time. Just keep building websites and you will become an expert at it.

Thank you! I've heard many many good things about Brad Schiff's course on Udemy. His YT channel is called LearnWebCode. For theme development, I really liked the Eduonix course by Brad Traversy (a bit old, but it stands the test of time). Two other TH-cam channels that have helped me with more advanced topics are WPCasts and Alessandro Castellani. All that said, if you are just starting out and you want to be a productive WordPress developer, I would (1) learn CSS very well, then (2) download Local by Flywheel and start experimenting with different WordPress themes, plugins and page builders.
