    This is god advice. There are tons of WordPress jobs on Upwork that don't require programming skills. Most of the time there is a plugin to do what the client needs. No need to code it yourself if a solution already exists. Learning how to troubleshoot WordPress issues is also incredibly valuable. Like fixing a plugin or theme update that crashes a site, plugin or theme conflicts, WordPress quirks, etc.

      Yes for sure it's better, even necessary, to submit more proposals as opposed to spending lots of time on each one. I used to do the latter and it takes the wind out of your sails when you don't get replies. Below are 3 points of advice, if you want them, take them lol.
      1. Apply to the most recent and relevant jobs possible. I check on the job feed almost any time I think about it.
      2. Write shorter, to-the-point proposals, addressing the problems that stand out from their job posting.
      3. Build your profile as well as you can, even if your portfolio pieces are just screenshots of practice projects.

    Hi Taylor, many thanks for this valuable video. I consider my self a beginner, even I have good knowledge in HTML and CSS. I had always that idea fixed in my head, that I must learn every thing to mastery and then start to freelance. But considering what you say, that is totally right. But, can you please explain to me what do you mean to use WordPress for design or to build websites. How can I use my knowledge in HTML and CSS on WordPress? I want to ask you if you can give me some suggestion about learning and understanding ins and outs of WordPress to be sure that I can solve any issue with the client website, because this is my nightmare in this field, I always have fear of just thinking that the client website get broken. Many thanks to you.

    • @coding4tacos
      @coding4tacos  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for the comment! I would start by using CSS to customize (and also create) WordPress block patterns. Find a design to copy and build it with the block editor and CSS. Regarding client websites braking, it's just important to have reliable backups. And the site shouldn't break anyways if you are using reliable, well-maintained themes and plugins. Everything comes with time. Just keep building websites and you will become an expert at it.

      @coding4tacos  4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Thank you! I've heard many many good things about Brad Schiff's course on Udemy. His YT channel is called LearnWebCode. For theme development, I really liked the Eduonix course by Brad Traversy (a bit old, but it stands the test of time). Two other TH-cam channels that have helped me with more advanced topics are WPCasts and Alessandro Castellani.
      All that said, if you are just starting out and you want to be a productive WordPress developer, I would (1) learn CSS very well, then (2) download Local by Flywheel and start experimenting with different WordPress themes, plugins and page builders. Courses are great, but real learning comes when you build projects on your own.
      Hope that helps! One of the best things about WP development is that it is used on millions of existing sites and very well documented.

    I been on Upwork two years and have a background in recruiting and staffing. I never landed any recruiting jobs sadly and don’t understand why:( I am trying to now switch careers and get into web development, just a better career compared to recruiting which isn’t a career at all. How much coding knowledge do I need to have in order to be successful as a Wordpress developer ?

    how much time it takes to do wordpress freelance work

    • @coding4tacos
      @coding4tacos  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for letting me know! I appreciate the comment. That's a hard question to answer because it depends on many different factors like how much time you have to learn each day. I spent a year and a half learning web development (20 hours a week on avg), before I started freelancing, but I think I could have started much sooner. Once you feel confident about your CSS skills, basic JS and general WordPress I think you can start looking for small jobs and edits. It's good to start doing client work sooner rather than later, because it will challenge your skills, help you build a client list and motivate you to continue learning. Not to mention the soft skills that can be gained, which are extremely important for developers.

    I have currently used css, js, jquery, tailwind in many projects. I have am also learning php, can i just skip php for a while and jump to wordpress and try freelancing?

    • @coding4tacos
      @coding4tacos  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, absolutely! Knowing JS will be extremely helpful, and you'll pick up on PHP for WordPress fast. Stack overflow and tools like chatGPT can be great for figuring out how to do things with PHP in WordPress. I would recommend checking out the Tailpress theme and Googling about the WordPress template hierarchy.

    Hey taylor
    your content is great but just after checking the job boards I wonder can I start as a freelancer wordpress developer . Bcz basically every simple job has 20+ proposals how is it possible to get a client interested on me when they have plenty of pro developers to select.😐

    • @coding4tacos
      @coding4tacos  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not sure if you're talking about Upwork specifically, but it only takes a couple good reviews to get the ball rolling! It is competitive at first. That's why the proposal is so important. It also helps to submit a proposal soon after the job was posted. I felt the same way at first too, but a lot of freelancers submit horrible copy-pasted proposals that show they clearly didn't read the job description.
