Retro/Vintage/Throwback Melbourne always warms my heart unlike the current version we have now. The colours, the distinctiveness of the lighting crescendo, the the accents, the cars and just everything! Whenever I feel bad about the current state of melbourne? I can always come back and see this. Thank you again.

You may well bemoan the changes but that cannot match the distress of me watching the last Sydney trams leave the streets forever for a one way trip to the workshops and watching P and R1 class burn to skeletons.

Yes I was one of those school girls swarming lol..but up the wattletree Rd end it was just as crazy!..how we didn't all get skittled by cars I don't know..we'd be riding on the running board sometimes because the tram was so packed..great days! 💖

Thanks for your interesting comment! It’s also nice to know that some ladies watch my videos 😊

To think now that Swanston St is practically a pedestrian mall. I admit this video was before my time.

Glad that this has shown you a bit of what you missed. Running with traffic did not bother me at all as a driver. In fact with traffic keeping pedestrians in check, speeds through there were probably faster than today.

The traffic policeman along Swanston St did a great job, used to love watching them work.

I thought that traffic policeman assisting traffic lights was farcical. Never seen it anywhere else that I have been. Were Melbourne motorists too stupid to understand the lights without somebody telling them which way to turn the steering wheel?

Good Video. The Z Class was in Flinders Street and not in Batman Ave

Perhaps I did not check carefully enough.

I can't believe the trams moved with their doors open. I assume there were no remote tabs on the conductor's controls?

People weren’t stupid or wrapped up in cotton wool then. They hung tight on near open doors. Many trams still had canvas doors shortly before then and they certainly were not closed between stops. It was drivers who opened and shut the doors and when I was a driver, there were no instructions about keeping doors closed so in nice weather or when the tram was not crowded, we all left them open.
