When I was younger, I was skating this secret bank in LA. I used to skate there almost every day. One day I’m out doing my thing and out of nowhere Rodney Mullen shows up. I was so surprised at first I didn’t believe it was him (I thought it was an impersonator lol). After watching him skate for a minute I realized it was the legend himself. I skated with him for hours. It was awesome! He’s such a nice and humble human being. The thing that inspired me most about that day was watching him try the same trick over and over and over. For hours he tried and failed, but you could tell it didn’t matter. He was just happy to be out skating and meeting people. This is what I see in you when I watch your videos. It’s that love and determination I saw in Rodney that day. Truly inspiring!
That would be awesome if they could met and abd catch Rodney's reactions about Jonny's skating. I wonder if he ever had any feedback from Rodney after all the dedicated video Jonny did?

By showing your failures, your disappointment and your perseverance despite them you are teaching those who look to you for inspiration that their own perseverance will pay off. That they will have to work hard and try to achieve. And to not give up when it takes hundreds or thousands of attempts. Good videos, good vibes. Keep it up man.
This is the Jonny G that got me to subscribe. Inspiration. Struggle. Dedication. Achievement. Nice production and narrative on the video as well. Great story.
the dedication of this man is making me try harder at learning and landing new tricks until it becomes muscle memory. I have learn so much just by watching the videos. it got me back into skating. Thank you so much and much love brother!
Your commitment and dedication are extraordinary. What an example of practicing with joyful discipline until immersed into mastery! Even if it is only for a tiny window of time. It is always a gift, thank you for showing that! :-)
I got back into skating last year in part to this channel. Your determination and dedication to getting a trick down is not only a little inspiring, but a good reminder that skating is hard and your own mind and attitude is your only limit. Thanks for being awesome, Jonny!
Jonny filming the scenery in focus in the foreground and himself out of focus in the background. I love this guy's videos. A video artist and a skateboard legend
I just realized why I love your videos.... you're already an awesome skater, but you keep it real by showing how hard it is to do Rodney's tricks. Most skate videos make these tricks look so easy, but watching how much effort goes into learning a new trick is encouraging for the rest of us, who are still learning and nowhere near your level. Thanks for sharing your progression and how much it takes to learn a new trick, even for good skaters liker yourself. Very encouraging!!!!
Yo Jonny, I just wanted to share how inspiring these vids are. I used to skate religiously when I was younger but quit as soon as I picked up a guitar. My heart will always be in live music but I won't lose my love for the art of skating. Your perspective and methodology for breaking down tricks fundamentally have helped me in my own guitar playing! Thanks for posting these really! Much love to you!
Hi Jonny, I don't skateboard, I once ollied 2 inches high, then fell. Also, I don't think I'll ever get on a skateboard again, and yet... I'm addicted to watching your videos because of your personality. You're a good man. Keep the videos coming.
I found your channel a few days ago and reinspired to get out there, age 31! I last skated in college, and had stopped doing most flat ground tricks. Thanks for the inspiration.
Awesome Jonny I was freestyling before Rodney’s time my inspiration was Stacey Peralta and I missed out on the Rodney era. Freestyling again in my 50’s this is inspiring stuff
You're INSANE! As an aspiring new-ish skater I get so frustrated with learning the simplest tricks or new things. Watchung you struggle and get a payoff like that really shows me that even the pros struggle with it and everyone starts somewhere! Thanks Jonny.
said it in another video of jonny, the lands of the tricks he masters always look smooth and effortless, like not even trying hard - but man, this guy works as hard as anyone on his goals, and he gets there, no questions asked - big respect!
Johnny your commitment is on par with the best in the business. You sir have my utmost respect. What an awesome reward after such a battle! Keep skating
So great that you finally made it Jonny! :) Well done and I am more than glad that not only Rodney Mullen but also you are able of doing this trick! :)
Love the channel and the perseverance in doing all these tricks. One thing though, it always seems weird to me to see a skate video with no punk-rock music blasting on the background!! 😂😂😂
It's maybe cultural, but emphasizing how you felt somebody else's feeling and frustration in such a way like it's a miracle - while everybody can just see how he tried hard and fell - it's childish and almost socially retarded. In Europe we would never express it in such a way, and in Croatia you would be possibly beaten so that you can actually feel it ;)
Incredible talent man, huge respect! Rodney Mullen used to be such an inspiration (still is) for me as a kid. We had this ON Video Skateboarding tape and rewind his part many times and go outside afterwards. I liked to do simple truckstands etc, but you took it on a legendary level. You should really meet him in person and create something epic ;)
Inspirational !! Good job Jonny!!!! Been struggling for 4 sessions to land my first sw hardflip, gone through 2 boards and pain haha Your dedication is a reminder to never give up! Hope it will go down in the next session 😛👊
It's the blessing and the curse of Rodney. He's so smooth and elegant that he makes everything look easy and just so cool. But then you try to do it and you realize the curse, that the things he does are insane.
