    Guys, we are SO excited about this series! We fell in love with Rome- the food was incredible, without a doubt, but what really clinched it for us was the people- we met so many proud Romans who were willing to share the story of their food with us, going out of their way to speak in simple Italian and what English they had so that we could understand what their food was all about. And we got it- the passion behind the food was humbling and exciting. We really hope you love this series as much as us! Thank you all so much for your continued support- we appreciate every like, comment, and share 😍 Big love, Thomas & Sheena x

      😂😂😂 it’s fun practising the local language even if we do make a hash of it! We hate expecting people to understand English so try our best to use a few words of the local tongue when possible! We adore your food- you are right, it is indeed to die for! Can’t wait to return to Italy one day to eat more. Thanks for watching and commenting Sarah Rose! Cheers, Sheena

    Hope you guys have footage on how to take a drink from the water fountains. Your subscribers who have never been to Italy will get a kick out of a demonstration I'm sure. Great start to Rome. I know you'll show all the greatest hits but I'm crossing my fingers for one particular summer dish. 😀

    • @ChasingaPlate
      @ChasingaPlate  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Tosh. We didn’t film the drinking technique for some silly reason. Because we had bottles we didn’t even think to show it. So neat that. That fountain we filmed at was crazy. When you blocked it to have a drink on the spot the stream went right over the top of that black car 😂 I think we know what summer treat you’re talking about. We thought we were just out of season as a few places didn’t have it. We did end up getting to have them though but not on a filming day sorry. Thanks for watching this one. Cheers, Thomas 😀

You guys have quickly become one of my favorite food travel channels on TH-cam - tied with strictly dumpling. • @ChasingaPlate
      @ChasingaPlate  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Stephanie Cecilia, we do a tonne of reading before hand- blogs, magazines etc and also chat to people once we’re on the ground. We also travel pretty slow so we always spend a few days just eating when we arrive in a spot so we can taste the same dish in different places so we know what’s great and what’s not and then choose what to put in a video 😄 But doing a bit of reading helps a whole lot prior to arriving! Hope we can all get back out there soon. Thanks for watching and commenting! Cheers, Sheena

    The “plain” pizza is known in the states as Focaccia bread, interesting that the Italian’s call it plain pizza when brushed with olive oil. I’m sure it’s delicious too! 👍🏼😊

    • @MadMaxine1979
      @MadMaxine1979 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Focaccia isn't the same. Focaccia is made with an enriched dough-it has oil in it-which gives it a moister, softer texture with far less chew than pizza bianca, which is made with a lean dough.

    The pizza bianca, along with rossa (red, tomato only) it's very traditional but we don't eat it alone (just if eaten like bread); usually it's cut and opened in the middle like a sandwich, then you put what you want.
    In Rome it's traditional to eat it with Mortadella (Prosciutto and Mozzarella it's another classic) or if you want to eat sweet with chocolate (Nutella for example); this happens because many people take just a coffee or cappuccino in the early morning so it 'a way to make breakfast around 10-11am.
    Sry for my "google-eng", I hope you are happy in "my" city, ciao Roberto.

      Hi Roberto, thanks so much for watching and for taking the time to comment :) We hope you enjoyed this video. We fell in love with your city during our time there- it was our first time visiting together. Thanks so much for the information- the mortadella or prosciutto and mozzarella sounds right up our alley! We will definitely do that on our next visit to beautiful Roma. • @ChasingaPlate

      Hi Rachel, thanks so much for watching and commenting! Suppli and arancini are cousins 😆 Arancini are the rice balls of Sicily and are prepared differently and a different shape. • @SorMa10
      @SorMa10 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Suppli and arancini are both regional foods, suppli from Rome and Arancini from Sicily. While arancini are commonly known in the whole country (and abroad), supplì are harder to find outside Rome: you can still find them in central regions like Abruzzo, Umbria and south Tuscany but the core of it is without doubts in Rome. Arancini are way bigger than suppli, they have a more spheric shape and they can be either with tomato or with "white" rice and pees, mushrooms and other ingredients. Suppli is an elongated ball with tomato sauce risotto and mozzarella in the middle. The traditional recipe of suppli was with chicken giblets: it has been revised in modern times with meat replacing chicken, but you can also find suppli without meat or - less commonly - the traditional way with chicken giblets. In recent times, there has been an evolution about the ingredients inside: together with the original version, it's not uncommon to find alternative recipes like "suppli all'amatriciana" or "suppli alla carbonara" and so on. Ah, and It's not just a street food: when you make risotto at home and there's some left after the meal, you typically "convert" that in suppli the day after. No waste! :)

    If you want to taste very good pastry go to "sorchetta". It is in via Cernaia 32 Roma (close to Termini station). It is open just during night, from 9 Pm till 6 in the morning. Usually people goes there after clubbing. Ending a crazy night out with a pastry is quite a tradition in Italy.. this place is famouse since '80 thanks to his "sorchetta doppio schizzo", a pastry with a kinky name. But to me this is not the best it can offert. Is good but not the best. I advice instead Pastiera if avaible or anything that comes from Naple since the owner is from there. If you're lucky enough you will see this old man going down the stairs cheking the situation time by time during the night.

      The shop calls themselves a pizzeria and what they serve pizza- it’s pizza by the slice which is very common in Rome. Thanks for watching! Cheers, Sheena

      Haha did feel a bit strange. 😂 Because the cod was salted it felt very different to eating fish and chips though. Absolutely delicious. Thanks so much for watching this one! Cheers, Thomas 😀

    Hi there from Athens. Can i ask something Have you ever been to a place that you didn't like the food? Because in all of your videos you look like super everytimr, that everything is perfect and i dont think that is possible! I know you choose restaurants, before, but i mean you try everything first?

      Hi! Thanks so much for watching. Great question. We spend hours researching where to eat by eating, reading, talking to locals etc. Because of all that most of the food we eat is very good. We do always say if something isn’t amazing though. Also sometimes if a meal just isn’t very good we just put the camera down and stop filming. We don’t want to waste our viewers time by eating bad food and we also know lots of the places we eat are small family businesses and we don’t think it is fair for us drag them through the mud. Hopefully that makes sense. Let me know if you have any more questions! Cheers, Thomas 😀
