In all my years of playing bassoon I have never encountered adding the G key to play E. I'll give it a try. Update: tried it with a tuner and it made E horribly flat. Of course I have been playing E without the G key for 30+ years...
The difference between names is really interesting between UK and US. For example the bogle(?) is called a crook in England and the bass joint is called a long joint. There were a few more examples
im switching to the bassoon from flute because of my overbearing tone. i just started flute last year which is unfortunate but ive always loved deep sounding and strange instruments also, i don't like the light-headed feeling when you play too much incorrectly
As a flute player, I've been considering switching to bassoon over the summer but I already know it's gonna be a big jump and take a lot of time. Just debating on whether or not I wanna go through with it lol I loveee the sound of the bassoon.
Usually one reed by itself lasts 2-3 months, if you practice a lot then one reed by itself will only last 1 month, it depends mostly on how much you play
Never added it in my 25 + years of playing the bassoon... Adding keys to improve pitch/tone, just means that one does not of the proper embouchure / breath control. Learning to breath correctly should have been the first lesson!
@@Peanuts-gu7mt You're supposed to assemble it on the ground and specifically not on your leg. This is because it's easier to do it on the ground and won't fall.
How does someone decide one day to play the bassoon? People say that about the guitar, drums, violin and piano, not the bassoon. Maybe she got stuck with it in her high school band.
I just started. Because I love the sound of bassoon, which I remember from having heard in "Peter and the wolf" as a child, and because I love to play musical instruments.
well done to this young girl who's taking the lesson in front of the camera ...
When he said let it soak for 5-6 mins I was like bruh I want to play today not tomorrow.
At the same time, you can set up your instrument, which also takes some time.
I bet your neighbours love it when they see you start setting up your bassoon at 11:55 pm
Like Abraham Lincoln said "If I have 8 hours to chop a tree, I'd spend the first six sharpening my axe".
It’s the same with the oboe
You don't even have to soak it that long.
Great lesson. I am currently relearning the bassoon, after 25 years playing the saxophone.
Deep at least you touched something before this giant windpipe
Me learning to play bassoon after 7 months of alto saxophone 💀💀 help 😢
Very interesting approach to the lesson! Thanks!

you don't even need a tuner, you can tell that it's flat
I never realized how complicated it is to play. I appreciate it more now.
Each instrument and each operator is different. What works for one person may not work or even be neccessary for someone else.
its when its a bit flat i sometimes do that
Begging bassoonists naturally play that e pretty sharp usually so I think he was attempting to brace for it.
This teacher is very chilled.
Thank you for the video 🙏💖
Really great video!!
"Luckily we put on cork grease before" cork then begins to squeak while being put in

*bocal 🙃
Im from the south in Us and we call it long joint and wing joint not bass and tenor joint.
same here in the east@@MuhDog
Same here in the south US too, I was confused when they called them tenor and bass joints @MuhDog
Thank you so much your my favorite youtuber

@@kinouviare you renting or buying? You can always keep playing both if you like

I would like to learn the bassoon
When you test the reed out before playing, you're supposed to get a crow, not a straight high pitched tone like an oboe
Oboe reeds crow as well.
@@MackSuperb Very true, I just used it as an example so that people know a bassoon reed crow should not sound like an oboe reed crow
I wish I could learn the Bassoon. My neighbours would go mental.
she looks like a good student :))))
Mines usually out and playing in 30 seconds the red doesn’t take that long to soak 🤣
how long does a bassoon reed last
If you alternate between two(which I would recommend), it’s about 6 months. By itself, much shorter
@@Jurgensen1 ive had the same one for almost 2 years but i still sound great somehow lmao

Lilly is live
E doesnt require the ring finger on the right hand regardless of instrument
It doesn’t require it, but it is pressed down on bassoon for better tone quality and tuning most of the time!

Her having the Bassoon on her leg gave me anxiety.
Why?

I wonder how this girl is now
Bassoon fingerings are odd when he said F E D C I thought clarinet like fingerings
Help! This Instrument is soooo big....
no it isn't
Thats not really a problem unless your too poor to buy a seat strap. Which you aren’t because this shit cost me $7000 for a student one

okay but those voiceckracks 😭😭
IS THIS CDO HIGH SCHOOL???? WHY DOES IT LOOK LIKE THAT….
I forgot that schools look like schools

I am taking my first private lesson on Wednesday lol, I decided I wanted to play the Bassoon
i wanted to do percussion but i have no rhythm, and now i play bassoon
