    Just received mine. I was totally unimpressed with it out of the box. Once I figured out the controls to tweak the presets, I have gotten some really killer sounds. My channel was on hold because I had to sell all of my stuff, and I just don't like amp sims. They sound great, but a computer doesn't respond the same way an amp does. This unit has me back on track to wanting to grow my humble little channel

    The ZNR and tuner are worth the price of this unit alone. Add to that the superb other delays, reverbs, amps and cabs you really have an incredible workhorse. I wasted so much money on sub-par single-effect pedals, that just didn't deliver. The G1 Four is probably the greatest investment I've ever had with gear. The fact that it's $90 makes this a no-brainer, IMHO.

    • @gearfacts
      @gearfacts  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep i think seeing multi effects pedals as part of a larger rig is a great way to approach it, and to save money. ZNR is the best noise remover I've ever used, too.

  • @mountainstartemple6041
    @mountainstartemple6041 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I saw someone mention that they thought the G1on was simpler for navigation and had more info on the screen. I personally find by looking at these vids of this new G1 Four (and G1X Four) that the navigation is improved over the G1on. The G1on has a narrower screen which is taller but on any page of parameters, the maximum is three circular parameter dials per page. The G1 Four has 4 horizontal bars per page (unless it's multiple pages and the 4th one is for changing pages from what I've seen. On the G1on, you must use the one rotary knob and 'enter' button for navigating so much of the time. On the G1 Four, you can navigate slots with the 5 illuminated buttons and adjust the parameters with knobs instead of using one knob and enter (on the G1on , 'enter' to select an effect -> turn knob to adjust -> enter to exit that effect -> knob to navigate to other effect -> enter to select effect -> knob for adjusting that effect ...and so on ~ whereas on the G1 Four you can adjust 4 knobs for the parameters of the effect right away... that is totally far less navigating). Turning on/off effects in a patch with the 5 illuminated buttons is also far less navigating than with the G1on ( turn knob to select effect in patch -> enter to select it -> hit foot button to turn it off -> home button to get back to patch and repeat if you want to turn off other effects .... again way more steps to this in the G1on instead of just hitting one of 5 buttons. So in my opinion, I'm thinking the navigation is much more streamlined than the one knob method of the G1on. I also like the option to limit scrolling patch selections to one bank (I have various patches in banks for specific categories including ones just for my nylon string 'classical' and there is the chance of accidentally getting into a high gain patch in another bank which would cause huge feedback (one other great thing about the G1 Four is the volume knob. When I'm making a patch for my nylon string, and browsing effects, I have gone into the high gain amps by mistake and there is sudden loudness and feedback so just turning the volume down before searching through the effects would be so handy). One negative I have seen is the loss of the Particle reverb (which was kind of a CPU hog but nice for some things). There seem to be some new effects and maybe with the Guitar Lab software, one could download other effects. Anyway, IMHO just by looking at this new pedal online, I see it as a big step up as far as navigating goes from the G1on.

    • @gearfacts
      @gearfacts  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      A fair point, i think. I agree about the Partcile Verb too, it was a shame to lose that one. As for processing, believe it or not the amp models on the G1FOUR generally take a huge amount of processing power, usually between 20 and 30 percent of total capacity. It makes sense though, as this is where most of the sonic improvement in the G1FOUR lies. Thanks for your great comment :) /GF

      @mountainstartemple6041 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gearfacts Thanks for the reply. I'm wondering if the Zoom Guitar Lab software will allow you to download the particle reverb and various other things. It does say if has downloadable effects and not just patches (someone in a vid showing it was downloading some amp models). I was looking at vids of that software but didn't see anything specifically showing that. I have the G1on but I probably should have gotten the X version with the pedal. The G1X Four looks like editing and controlling it would be much better.

    • @gearfacts
      @gearfacts  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mountainstartemple6041 Yes I think control is a bit better on the G1FOUR, but to be fair it's not all that bad on the G1on - just too much 'enter' button pressing. So just a slight improvement there. As for Particle 'verb, I specifically looked for it in the software and couldn't see it. That's a few months ago though, and Zoom are often providing upgrades. They're really good with that. Lots of after-sales service.

    The main thing I don't like about this pedal as opposed to the previous generation is that the cabinet selection now takes up one of your 5 available slots. With the g1on that was a setting made within the amp selection, so amp and cab Sims only occupied one slot. To me that was a much better design choice on a pedal that limits you to 5 slots.
    I'm also disappointed that they didn't add an undo function to the looper. How hard can that possibly be? Some of the cheapest Looper pedals on the market have this feature. While this pedal does offer some definite improvements over its predecessor these two particular things just seem to be glaring oversights IMO. Overall I'm happy with my purchase, but it could have been so much better.

I always found that quite annoying and undesirable. The doubled tone would play a few milliseconds behind. There's never a way to get the two tones to play exactly together like a regular, stand alone octave pedal. Is this the same or did they finally improve on that?

    Hi, nice video mate :) Let me know if you notice the following thing and if there's any way to do with it. When there is let say a volume pedal in your chain and you totally raised the expression pedal, it would normally give no sound. But if you switch to another preset which has also a volume pedal and you actually won't touch the FX pedal, the preset is going to load with 100% volume unless you slightly move the pedal. In my opinion if the pedal is raised, there should be no sound no matter if you change another presets. Is it possible to set this somewhere ?

      @@aiden_macleod I recommend it to anybody. If your broke, it's an inexpensive multi effects box. If your just new , it's a great way try pedals and sound combos before investing in "higher" end dedicated pedals. In a word , I would describe the effects quality as "medium" , lol.
      Can you get better?, without a doubt. Can you get worse? Hell yea you could do worse.

If you want to do it only with stompboxes, try to do it with a dist +, the ep booster and the graphic eq in the same configuration.
