  • When a master setting ring is not available for the specific size needed a bench micrometer can work in place for close tolerance machining and precise machines such as the Moore Jig Borer.

I like the Tumico bench mic Don They made some nice tools in the day before and after the Scherr name came on board .. My favorite Mic is a 0-1" Scherr-Tumico that is my daily driver. I am enjoying this recent series of videos on boring and using the Moore. Cheers

I worked at a hydraulic shop that used ST tools almost exclusively and didn't want personal tools used. Boeing used these and many other plants also. I think they are the best bang for the dollar on the used market. I will get back on the jig borer, had a sudden last of summer heatwave that ends today and should have better sound wired up today, thanks!

Hi Don. Couldn't you make the ring gage you need using the sunnen hone?

Yes, I would do that if I was going to be making these trays for awhile. The micrometer works well but takes more time, same with larger gages and setting fixtures, ring gages are always better,

You got sooooo close to putting that mahr in the hole. I will wait for you to measure the oxide diameter difference.

I will do that soon as I step out the hole with the next boring head, thanks

micrometers are set to work under some amount of pressure when measuring, taking measures in "air" may result in somee errors

@@antoniomortinho1099 The setting fixtures with micrometers or set with gage block stacks need to be checked against master setting rings that be fairly close to size of what you are measuring. It takes practice to get it right. Another similar setting method is using height gages on the surface plate that can work well for setting large diameters thanks
