What do you think about the new Space Force rank designs? I think they're definitely better than the Air Force's, but fall short when compared to the other major branches.

Honestly, I only have two real critiques. 1. There is NO reason for an E-1 to have *any* rank insignia. "You are wearing no rank insignia, because you have earned no promotions yet. Don't sweat it - you're getting promoted in a couple of months anyway; at least you don't have to pay to add a useless insignia until then." The only reason to give an E-1 anything in terms of a rank widget is to avoid the "E-1 Fuzzy" on the MultiCam uniform. If that's the worry, fine, just issue them a blank MultiCam square to cover up (and protect) the loop square. The purpose of rank insignia is to differenciate between troops.of different levels of authority and responsibility - there is zero reason to have any rank insignia for the troop at the bottok.of the ladder. 2. The separated delta in the senior NCO grades is just distracting (literally slowed down counting). Just use the same globe & delta above the downward pointing chevrons the junior NCOs use - the fact they have arcs at all immediately shows they are senior NCOs. As Coco Chanel said about accessories, "Put on everything you want to wear, and then take one thing off." I do like the hexagon taking the place of the wreath for the service level senior NCO. Clean and ties into the rest of the USSF "theme" stylistically, but still clearly links back to the wreaths used for other services. (Just like the the USAF "farts and darts" is clearly analogous to "scrambled eggs" on the other service's hats, while still being uniquely "Air Force".) The new "Class A" service uniforms are just silly. Keep the various insiginia elements (like the shape of the name tags, and the USSF button designs and collar badges) of you like- they actually look cool and distinctive. Keep the color differentiation between the jacket and trousers if you want - that's distinctive. Hell, even keep the popped collar if you want (perspnally, I'd stick with something closer to what the other services use in terms of styling, but there are worse uniform sins than a ST:TNG style Mandarin collar... and if you're going to go with a Mandarin collar on the blouse, couldn't you have gotten rid of the necktie, too, and gone with a banded shirt collar?!?). But for God's sake, lose the 1990s Science Fiction diagonal buttons!
The US space force needs to go with naval ranks only because then the 5 star could be “admiral of the constellation” which is just the coolest rank ever
All jokes about the insignia designs aside, it's understandable that the U.S. Space Force wants to establish its own identity as an independent and relevant service branch. The fact is that the United States of America is very dependent on its satellite networks for both civilian and military use. There is no doubt that the U.S. Space Force will become an important and integral service branch responsible for maintaining and protecting our nation's satellites necessary for our daily lives.
Almost every country is highly reliant on US satellites for civilian and military use. I appreciate the ground work the US layed for the wealth of geospatial info we have today and hope that they seriously look into protecting satellites especially when anti satellite capability is becoming more and more competent.
Keeping the GPS network free, updated, and protected alone is critical in the modern world. Those kinds of developments were originally military, so hopefully the new branch will keep up those traditions.
I was joking about this with my friends yesterday. We poke fun at the SF now but one day the first space warship will have its commissioning ceremony and there will be some 90 year old SF vet in this uniform giving an interview about how they paved the way while the world memed hard on them.

I can just imagine the type of insults drill instructors say now. What kind of pus*y are you? Are you a Space Cadet? Even the Air Force can now use that line.
Nah, the space cadet's will get folded in the Marine Corps and it's fleet into the Navy. The navel do to international treaties saying the anything not on earth maritime laws apply, and the Marine corps due to it's high mobility needs
You want to see the uniforms where the sci-fi came from have a look at the BUF uniforms from the 30s. Something like those would be the crack for a space force. Or you could go with yellow Lycra yoga suits like Star Trek.
A Guardian who uses Reddit pitched designs on Reddit to other Guardians and got other people's opinions, but it was officially decided on by actual Guardians through official channels.
@@kght222 Just think of the mascots Marvin the Martian from bugs bunny or the The Great Gazoo from the jetsons. The the team name will be the space ghosts.
I came into the Air Force in 1992, E1 Airman Basic; E2 Airman; E3 Airman First Class; E4 Senior Airman; E5 thru E9 are correct, however there is a E9 and the Command level who have regions that he or she is responsible for. That E9 is called Command Chief Master Sergeant .
I think that the US Air Force made a mistake when it eliminated the warrant officer grades in the 1950s. It would be cool if the US Space Force was to reintroduce the warrant officer grades because there could be some duties of the newest service branches mission that would suit those ranks.
But the US Air Force has never looked back with regret to eliminating the Warrant Officer ranks. The Warrant Officer responsibilities are split between NCOs and company grade officers.
Tangentially... someone brilliantly described RAF ranks as sounding as though they're out of HG Wells - Flight Lieutenant, Wing Commander, Air Commodore etc. Space Force could have gone down this road, but disappointingly didn't - not fully, anyway. 'Guardian' is a bit space opera-y. (I'm British, and an RAF-reverer. No cheap shots intended.)
Honestly, the whole space force thing seems a bit sloppy and poorly thought out. Splitting them off from USAFSC was inevitable, but sure as hell could have done with some more prep work.
Actually, there's a very good reason for it I think. Space-force is breaking away from the Airforce because the requirements of the service are totally different - it therefore needs a completely different culture. Maneuvering in space is all about mathematics, it takes time. It requires intelligence, patience, and diligence - and a much better appreciation for the skills of it's enlisted ranks. Space combat is largely non-kinetic and involves a much greater component of cyber-security and intelligence gathering - and indeed whenever a kinetic solution is called for - it's most likely going to be done calmly by a Specialist controlling a satellite. Someone with a PhD in astrophysics, calmly sitting at a control station on earth, in front of a computer terminal, re-checking their Delta-V calculations, and monitoring telemetry data while sipping a 'Chai-Latte'. The Airforce, on the other hand, is highly inculcated with a culture of 'pilot worship'. Which is to say, pilots get treated like rock-stars but if you're an enlisted grease-monkey on the tools you're a nobody and nothing. The Airforce is all about supporting hot-headed pilots fly by the "seat of their pants" and Space-force is making a deliberate attempt to break from this culture.
Lieutenant, Commander and Commodore are navy ranks. So the RAF owes its ranks to the Royal Navy, which of course is the "senior service" and around hundreds of years before H.G Wells was born. However your right about the Space Force ranks. I assume eventually Space Force personnel will actually deploy into space. I can see a "naval" influence asserting itself on the U.S Space Force at that point, since crewing a space vehicle or station is far more like crewing a naval vessel, especially a submarine than being based at a nice comfortable air force base.
As a fellow Brit I agree. However the junior rank structure doesn't make sense to me. How does a Leading Aircraftman be inferior to a Senior Aircraftman and Junior Technician? On the other hand the RN got it right with theirs: Seaman, Able Seaman and Leading Seaman (and Master Seaman if you are Canadian).
Unfortunately they seem to have settled on the air force naming convention, so it would be *General* of the Space Force - which also means that the CO of a Spaceship would be a Colonel or Major, not a Captain or Commander. I'd lobby my congressman to change that asap, but.. I'm not a US american and I'm just in it for the fun, so.. :D
This is awesome to see. Civilians may be wondering why the Space Force even needs to have their own uniforms and insignias, but it is extremely important to create their own identity, history, and culture. Personally, I think the new enlisted ranks look pretty interesting. They are unique and can tell at a glance what it is. There shouldn't be a whole lot of wondering where on the totem someone falls because it's too confusing.
Cool design for the rank insignia. I hope they have a stylish hat to bring that uniform together, I find fancy clothes often don't work if the head is left bare.
What about the old aussie mountaineer hats? Reminiscent of the US western frontier, and space is "the final frontier". I always thought those hats would look cool on a more modern outfit too
some kind of distinctive head cover has always been part of military uniform tradition, so i doubt that will be an issue with how they keep within pre-established parameters for their rank insignia design, as for the ceremony/dress uniform presentation, it's possible they were bare-headed because, well, it was indoors, and usually in any armed force, you uncover yourself indoors
The specialist ranks are almost Earth Starfleet from Star Trek: Enterprise to a tee which featured the delta through a circular background with angled chevrons on one side
the delta from star trek was taken from NASA and AFSPC, which utilized the Delta, which comes from DeltaV, or the amount of fuel/speed that a satellite has (the greek letter delta represents a change, and V stands for velocity)
While people may laugh at the idea of "Space Force," keep in mind that generals prior to World War I laughed at the idea of aircraft being used for military purposes. Wars were fought on the ground with infantry and tanks, or at sea with battleships. However, once aerial photography started taking place and those same generals got a bird's eye view of the enemy's positions, they quickly realized the value of what they previously laughed at. War has never been the same, and an air force arguably becomes the most important component of a modern military. Moving into the 21st century where various organizations are planning manned missions to Mars, or have invested interests in satellites, it only makes sense for the Space Force to be the next evolution of the US military as we reach for the stars and beyond. We will soon outgrow this planet, and spread our cosmic wings and fly onto other worlds. A military branch of service needs to lay its foundation now in preparation for the future, just as the pilots did in World War I.
You're forgetting about the crucial fact that any kind of military conflict around earth's orbit would create a shit ton of debris and NOBODY wants that.
I thought Tanks themselves were also pretty unorthodox. I could see how the idea of a big metal box with wheels carrying a big gun through mud and trenches would also sound pretty absurd at the time.
I am a retired veteran of the USAF. I like change, but sometimes I wonder if the money would have been spent better if they had just expanded Space Command in the USAF? But I guess if the Marines grew out of a need to have a fighting force for the Navy than I guess there is a need for a branch totally sperate from the USAF? I also wonder was this just a political move? Just like I remember all the times we changed base colors or uniforms when we got a new top general in the USAF that wanted to make a mark for himself?
Army said the same about the air force in 1947. The air and space forces have two entirely different mission sets that if kept together will just result in the air force continuing to ignore space assets in favor of more funding for their own priorities. The space force would Practically be only getting the air force's metaphorical leftovers.
@@andrewlechner6343 You are talking apples and oranges in this case. The Air Force has a thing called commands. They would have been able to get the job done under Space Command. And, oh by the way every branch of the military has to compete with each other for funding. So even with Space Force as its own branch they still could be denied funding in favor of other branches.
@@thewingedhussar4188 I think "space force" is pretty cool. I'm just glad they did it regardless of the aesthetics. America has been really slacking on practical application of space operations, and it's kind of dumb that we ignored it for so long considering how all of us use GPS and junk and otherwise are reliant on satellites. Meanwhile in the 70s no one really benefited from space assets and yet they were much more forward thinking about it.
Are staff sergeant rank change really necessary? It is as if no one could stay with Staff but didn't replace it and left it sergeant. Did I have that right Vern? I don't know Ernest I can't fathom the reason either.

only that said scifi designs are leagues better, the uniforms even are better tailored than whatever they wore during the announcement. it shouldnt be that i take sci fi space forces more seriously than the real one that looks way more like larpers and not like a real thing
When I entered USAF active duty in 1969, as a 2nd LT, after graduating college an USAFROTC in 1968, and attended graduate school, there was one Warrent Officer, who was a senior member and then retired. After that I never saw a WO again, as I heard the USAF had deleted having WO's anymore.
4:19 I'm not an American, so my opinion on this doesn't matter, but I find the Space Command's logo was more timeless. The current logo may look modern to us, but it probably will look dated in a couple of decades max. Just look at the aesthetics of 50s and 60s sci-fi that looked so modern back then but looked already dated when Star Wars and Alien came out a decade or two later.
They crew the central control room for the GPS network, run the Vandenburg and Canaveral Launch Sites, provide Tracking, Weather, and Ground support for every launch on American soil (including making SpaceX launches possible), and stand watch for the launch of nuclear missiles anywhere in the world. Your description of the first sergeant is more aligned with the role in the army/marines. In the AF and USSF, The senior enlisted in a unit is referred to as the chief enlisted manager, or simply "chief" and is usually a CMSgt, but can be a SMSgt. They also focus more on the administration of the enlisted force and serve as a mentor for the SNCOs in the unit. The first sergeant is a special duty that Senior NCOs can fill, and is more focused on advising the commander on the discipline and care and feeding of the enlisted force. Typically, a First Sergeant will attend a special training called the "First Sergeant Academy" this is also where they earn their diamond. Then be placed in a unit outside of their career field. A "First Shirt" or simply "Shirt" will serve 1-2 assignments as a shirt before returning to their career field and back to a normal job. Most squadrons have a master sergeant as their shirt, with some larger units having a SMSgt. The only SMSgt shirt I've seen was at my last unit, while had ~450 members. I've also never seen or heard of the mythical CMSgt First Sergeant, but I can't imagine there are many across the AF.
I know there were CMSgt who were first shirts, but only because as a kid living on Offutt in the early 90s a friend is mine's dad was a CMSgt first shirt. I'm guessing probably due to the size and such of SAC and it's successor on the base there were some very large units
I have seen a cmsgt shirt, he was the USAFE first sgt. He managed the entire European theather First sgt program. Saw him during a first sgts conference a few months ago.
I’ve seen Several Chief First Sergeants. Civil Engineering units are often the largest units on base and almost always have a SMSgt or Chief as a Shirt. Thank you for pointing out the author’s mistake.
Disappointed E1-3 have such an unimaginative name. Could’ve gone for Startrooper Basic, First Class etc. They’ve already made a space force so why not go all out with a cool/dramatic name.

The insignia yeah are pretty good. The uniforms, ughh yeah are another story. They really need to redesign and do a better job with those. Id say probably something more like other services' dress uniform as their main uniform and just use the air force one but a better color/camo scheme as their combat uniform

Thanks for the great video. I do like the look of the USSFs dress informs and their enlisted rank insignia. I wish they'd do something different with their officer ranks instead of sticking with Army/USAF/USMC ranks. Naval officer ranks would work best IMO or a mix (similar to Battlestar Galactica).
I could picture them 'borrowing' from the Army's Warrant Officer ranks; no square on the bar could mean '2nd Lieutenant, one square means 1st Lieutenant, two squares for Captain, and so on. that could work up towards Colonel, with what they call 'the lightsaber'. After that, they just go through the General ranks with stars.

Great job on the rank insignia! The only the I would change, and it's not a big deal, in order to further differentiate the space Force from the air force by changing the color of the chevrons to silver. It will be interesting to see what utility unform they decide on. They obviously don't need camouflage. The Star Trek look with the diagonal buttons on the jacket is hot! 🔥 Great design job by whomever!👍
You might be surprised at where Guardians might operate. If they have to integrate with Airmen and Soldiers in a joint environment downrange, it makes the most sense for them to wear the same uniform. As a rule, utility uniforms will largely be the same across all services going forward. The charlie foxtrot of uniform patterns that occurred in the early 2000s was largely a result of the USMC giving everyone else a middle finger and the Pentagon giving everyone lots of money in the wake of 9/11. Congress recently required that any new utility uniforms would be, well, uniform across services to reduce costs. The Navy and Marine Corps will probably just stick with what they have, and if new utilities are required, the Army, Air Force, and Space Force will work together to design it.
I agree with others opinions that the Space Force should have closer resemblance to naval ranks. Makes sense to me (vastness of oceans/ space). Would be better when starship fleets eventually start moving around
What happens when we develop actual spacecraft? Will they be flown by the Space Force or by the Space Navy? Will they carry Space Marines or Force Marines, or even Force Infantry? So many decisions coming down the road or “coming ‘round the orbit.” So may chances for silliness or rip-offs of sci-fi movies, tv and novels.
So, the first US military space mission was in 1958, by the US Army. The first crewed military space mission was in 1963, US Air Force pilot Joe Walker flying the X-15 prototype. The first crewed military mission to orbit was STS-51-C in 1985, which was done directly for the Department of Defense. Currently, there are 77 uncrewed spacecraft in orbit being controlled by the Space Force. There's also a reusable technology test bed in the X-37B, which is under USSF command. There are no current plans to launch military personnel into space, but there's been some preliminary work done to explore the feasibility of using a SpaceX Starship as a dedicated Space Force satellite carrier for launching, repairing, and recovering uncrewed Space Force Spacecraft. In parallel, the US Army has done some investigation into using Starship landers to resupply isolated bases in emergency situations. The USA interprets the Outer Space Treaty as meaning no nation is allowed to deploy military personnel off world, so would consider any crewed military spacecraft, space stations, or planetary bases as being a breach of international law.
So they copied the Eagle Globe and Anchor with the Delta and Globe. The Marines are probably going to be establishing the “Space Marines” in response now.
Alas, until there are things in space that can't just be solved via missiles or hacking, either due to strategy or politics, there won't be a need for space marines
If we do manage to go interstellar, I can imagine the Navy being merged with the Space Force and the Air Force be switched to Fighters for ships and Marines becoming... Space Marines...
the enlisted ranks are: Zero, Fellator, Fellator First Class, Special Fellator, Felcher, Staff Felcher, Felcher First Class, Master Felcher, and Command Master Felcher. The officer ranks should be; Zero, Zero Plus, Double Zero, Major Zero, Lieutenant Zero, Sparrow, Negative One, Negative Two, Negative Three, Full Negative, and Square Zero
Insignias look good. And I love the rank names from E5 onward. Sergeant E5 is just right. Never did like the the Staff Sergeant E5 that the Airforce did. However.. Spec 1's? That's ridiculous. Specialist has been a long standing traditional rank for E4s. Even spawning a culture of its own called the E4 Mafia. But now we're going to have Guardians who rank the same as Privates, Airmen, and Seamen being called Specialist. I think its just a bit disrespectful to the Army. I wouldn't mind their E4s being called Specialists. But not an E1. An E1 is not a specialist, they are a trainee. Even if they've passed basic, they're still likely in training. Could even call them Airmen, signifying that they haven't reached their full potential if they want to go that route.
I don't think you get what an E-1 in the Space Force would actually do, they'd just end up being a glorified tech-support worker. They SPECIALISE in computer logistics and the like. I think it's perfectly reasonable to label them 'Specialists'.
I don't see why not. There are always going to be idiots in every unit. You would want the 1st Sgt. to mediate it first before it goes to the Commander. Not to mention the 1st Sgt is someone you can go to if you have a problem. My first squadron's 1st Sgt was the best person you can talk to if you had a problem. Though he made you work for it if you didn't know your Air Force history.
The fact that they didn't go for the bottom set of rank insignia (shown at 2:05) fills me with some disappointment. It was my favorite, simply because it looked original, distinct, and most of all... something that a savvy sci-fi nerd would dream up.
At 2:06 when discussing the evolution of the ranks, the graphic showing the ranks is incorrect. I was in the Air Force from '84 - '92. There was no such thing as a Airman 3rd class or 2nd class. The ranks were as follows: no insignia, Airman Basic (AB), E1 1 stripe, subdued star, Airman (Amn), E2 2 stripes, subdued star, Airman First Class (A1C), E3 3 stripes, subdued star, Senior Airman (SrA), E4 - rank earned after 3 yrs of time in service 3 stripes, pronounced (white) star, Sergeant (Sgt), E4 - also called buck sergeant, rank earned after 4 yrs of time in service. After Sergeant, any subsequent ranks had to be earned by testing and other requirements. After '93, the ranks are the same with the following exception. All stars are white on the insignia. The sergeant rank no longer exists, it goes from SrA to Staff Sergeant (SSgt), E5. Upper ranks are the same, except the change in stripe structure of Master Sergeant (MSgt), E7 to Chief Master Sergeant (CMSgt), E9.
The Coast Guard is part of the Department of Homeland Security. They used to be part of the Department of Transportation. They may have been part of the Navy in the past, but right now, they're the only US government agency outside of the Department of Defense that holds their members to the standard of the Uniform Code of Military Justice.
Making a separate Space Force was a good idea, and maybe even slightly overdue. For all of the same reasons that separating the Air Force from the Army was a good idea. With that being said, how they've gone about it with the dress uniforms is just embarrassing..... Though the E-1 thru 4 insignias aren't bad.
God damn I really love the new uniforms they are so retro it's awesome, seriously it feels almost like commodore Perry is about to pop out of his grave to smack some alien booty.

Ever since I first saw the Delta in Air Force organizational emblems (especially for the Academy departments on their old website), I realized that the Air Force had very strong Star Trek envy. Now the Space Force clinches that.
As a guy who loved Star Wars, Star Trek, Guardians of the Galaxy, Star Fox(wow lot of names with Star in them, lol) and pretty much everything futuristic and sci fi, this captivates me, I’m curious to see what we can do with this in the next few years
I really like these ranks. And I sort of like the new service dress. I love the fact that the two branches of the military which don't have their own sub-department of the DoD (Marine Corps and the Space Force) have Senior Enlisted Advisor to their respective Chief of Staff insignia which show their branch seal. I do hope that the Specialist ranks eventually change their names to something involving Guardian, though. I mean Specialist is fine, but it just feels really lazy. For the service dress, I don't think borrowing heavily from science fiction is a bad thing. These uniform styles are already associated with Space, so use it. The only critique I have is the weird collar. Either go full standing collar or full lapel. This open standing collar with a collared shirt and tie underneath just looks awkward.
Guardians is just like referring to Soldiers, Airmen and Sailors. Guardian recruits should have zero rank IMHO. Earning rank is a tradition that SF shouldn't just toss to the wayside.
@@kevinmoore2929 all military personnel have “rank”regardless of their position (with the exception of civilian contractors and employees of the DoD) what you mean is insignia. The thing is though even within the Military, E-1 insignia are not unprecedented. Coast Guard E-1s have a single diagonal stripe that they wear. if yalls think this is a good idea then leave a like on this comment and respond
As Coco Chanel said about accessories, "Put on everything you want to wear, and then take one thing off."
I do like the hexagon taking the place of the wreath for the service level senior NCO. Clean and ties into the rest of the USSF "theme" stylistically, but still clearly links back to the wreaths used for other services. (Just like the the USAF "farts and darts" is clearly analogous to "scrambled eggs" on the other service's hats, while still being uniquely "Air Force".)
The new "Class A" service uniforms are just silly.

Exactly, US Army , E-4 here , I REALLY wanna join , especially because I’m in a space billeted job
They will also be absolutely vital for space travel in the near future.

I think that the US Air Force made a mistake when it eliminated the warrant officer grades in the 1950s. It would be cool if the US Space Force was to reintroduce the warrant officer grades because there could be some duties of the newest service branches mission that would suit those ranks.
I did meet the last active duty WO in the Air Force in 1980.

Did someone say ‘tangent’??
Army Specialist naming conventions, AF NCO ranks (plus E5 SGT) with a blended USAF/USN CPO (squared chevrons) aesthetic for NCOs. It works.
Pretty cool setup. If they expand the ranks later on I'm hoping to see the rank of Grand Admiral.
I hear that Thrawn fellow is gunning for a promotion I think he might make it
This is awesome to see.
How about a huge black helmet with a mask incorporating a very noisy breathing system?
Steal it from David Weber. Black berets except for ship commanders who get a white beret. With devices for different specialties.
Space Force, now we need an enemy from outer space.
In a few years we'll see E-1's wearing red shirts instead of chevrons
I see what you did there.
Then they'll change the color to placate the rumours.
They will never were them if they know anything about Star Trek TOS.
That'll be the law enforcement section of the Space Force.
🤣😂🤣
The specialist ranks are almost Earth Starfleet from Star Trek: Enterprise to a tee which featured the delta through a circular background with angled chevrons on one side
I vaguely remember Starfleet rank insignias with stacked horizontal bars even.
I think that style was what I was using in Star Trek Online. 🤣
Enterprise gets a bad rep but I like that they specifically worked forward from now to arrive at the design, as opposed to backwards from TOS
tbf pretty much every space agency in the world has some kind of delta based logo
Now we need Viper style aircraft to fly with.
the delta from star trek was taken from NASA and AFSPC, which utilized the Delta, which comes from DeltaV, or the amount of fuel/speed that a satellite has (the greek letter delta represents a change, and V stands for velocity)
America prob wont even last that long to see that day come tho xd

Didn't know that information. Nice.
Maybe I’m just being ignorant, but it’s going to take a while for the United States space force to go beyond meme status in my mind.
No, no. There will come the day when the USSF will slip the surly bonds of memes but it will take time.
Just like people got used to the Air Force being separate from the Army
I think it's name needs changed

Great job on the rank insignia! The only the I would change, and it's not a big deal, in order to further differentiate the space Force from the air force by changing the color of the chevrons to silver.
It will be interesting to see what utility unform they decide on. They obviously don't need camouflage.
The Star Trek look with the diagonal buttons on the jacket is hot! 🔥
Great design job by whomever!👍
"To infinity and beyond!"
I agree with others opinions that the Space Force should have closer resemblance to naval ranks. Makes sense to me (vastness of oceans/ space). Would be better when starship fleets eventually start moving around
The new ranks looks like something from the game asteroids!
Space Infantry.

Ave imperator, gloria in excelsis terra!
Alas, until there are things in space that can't just be solved via missiles or hacking, either due to strategy or politics, there won't be a need for space marines
oh shit, here comes Hicks, Ripley, and Vasquez!!
They gonna get sued by Games Workshop xD
@@LtCWest ....I'm sorry, BUT who in their right mind would fuck with ACTUAL Marines....
Some one in the US military had the space Lego in the 80s, they had a similar logo.
An E1 isn't a specialist in anything.
I do hope that they retain the First Sergeant and represent it with a diamond. It would give them a link shared with the Air Force, Marines and Army.
The ranks were as follows:
no insignia, Airman Basic (AB), E1
1 stripe, subdued star, Airman (Amn), E2
2 stripes, subdued star, Airman First Class (A1C), E3
3 stripes, subdued star, Senior Airman (SrA), E4 - rank earned after 3 yrs of time in service
3 stripes, pronounced (white) star, Sergeant (Sgt), E4 - also called buck sergeant, rank earned after 4 yrs of time in service.
They should have taken more inspiration from the Orks in Warhammer 40k. More severed heads, red paint, skulls, and ragged banners.
I think there dope. Im Shure the space force is full of nerds because of there job so it's probably going to be popular with the soliders.
So, US Armed Forces Have 6 Branch now??? Neat......
Since the end of 2019.
The Coast Guard is part of the Department of Homeland Security. They used to be part of the Department of Transportation. They may have been part of the Navy in the past, but right now, they're the only US government agency outside of the Department of Defense that holds their members to the standard of the Uniform Code of Military Justice.
This video is a great history of USAF enlisted ranks too!
They wasted the best opportunity ever to call them “Stargeant”
God damn I really love the new uniforms they are so retro it's awesome, seriously it feels almost like commodore Perry is about to pop out of his grave to smack some alien booty.
The pants don't fit the shirt tho

Yes, it was. When it was on I was and am a big fan.
So is the military building space planes and orbital attack vehicles for the Space Force? Have these guys been in hiding till Trump made them public? Do Russia, China, or Europe have a space unit of their own?
All I can hear is "Chevron 5 engaged." On the serious side, I am assuming the officer ranks will stay the same.
They generally stay the same for all services, though the names/titles do change.
@@Georgehanes-GJH105775 Generally, only maritime forces are different. The Navy and the Coast Guard have the same officer ranks, and the Army, Marine Corps, Air Force, and Space Force all have the same officer ranks.
IF, and that's a big IF, there were to ever be a space-faring military service, adopting maritime ranks would make more sense. But because the Space Force is going to continue to operate on earth and employing assets in space to the battlefield on earth, it makes more sense for them to continue with the ground forces rank structure.
@@brycepatties As a member of the Space Force I can say that we're a LONG way from that. By the point that we'd even want people on an RSO, there is likely no need for people to even operate a weapons-system.
This push to make the USSF fall in line with maritime traditions is not very well received by moat people in the USSF because it mistakes Sci-Fi for reality.
Simply outstanding!
Man, everytime i hear of Space Force. I keep thinking of Starship Troopers and that line where they say "Rico's Roughnecks!"
When you mix Warhammer with Star Trek
I like to imagine the Space Force people just standing around confused in an empty warehouse because star-fighters have not been invented yet.
So these thinkers binge watch Battlestar, Trek and Babylon 5 to come up with ideas?!
Ever since I first saw the Delta in Air Force organizational emblems (especially for the Academy departments on their old website), I realized that the Air Force had very strong Star Trek envy. Now the Space Force clinches that.
I know I’m late but people need to know that Star Trek got the Delta from the USAF not the other way around.
To boldly go. Well done.
As a guy who loved Star Wars, Star Trek, Guardians of the Galaxy, Star Fox(wow lot of names with Star in them, lol) and pretty much everything futuristic and sci fi, this captivates me, I’m curious to see what we can do with this in the next few years

I think they should copy Halo and rename the Specialist 1-4 to Crewman 1-4.
Would have to be "Crewperson" in this PC world we are in.
The Space Force should use naval ranks and have black uniforms.
This is crazy, and I love it
I really like these ranks.
@@kevinmoore2929 E-1 has always been a rank, just the lowest.
@@kevinmoore2929 all military personnel have “rank”regardless of their position (with the exception of civilian contractors and employees of the DoD) what you mean is insignia. An E-1 traditionally doesn’t have an insignia, but they do have a rank. As in the Army (Private) Marine Corps (private) Air Force (Airman Basic) and the Navy (Seaman Recruit). The thing is though even within the Military, E-1 insignia are not unprecedented. Coast Guard E-1s have a single diagonal stripe that they wear. Granted the Coast Guard is also the red-headed step child of the military, so I don’t see the space force keeping E-1 insignia in general
@@kevinmoore2929 Private is a shortening of the term "Private *Soldier*", Airmen below the rank of Staff Sergeant all use the term "Airman" as a part of their rank title, Seamen below the Rank of PO3 All use the rank title of Seaman as part of their rank title unless they are a part of the Engine room crew (Fireman), aviation component (Airman), or are hospital corpsman (Hospitalman), or construction components (Constructionman) having the junior enlisted rank titles involve the name given to the servicemembers is actually tradition. I wouldn't be surprised to see Guardian [Basic], Guardian, Guardian First Class, and either Senior Guardian, or Specialist become the rank titles eventually.
