- "Nice boy" Mike Donkin bravely ventures into the wild world of the London Hippodrome, to report on the latest pop craze. Young women across the UK are copying the distinctive style of US pop sensation, Madonna. Mike speaks to Laura Hardy - the Fashion Editor at Mizz magazine - about the Madonna 'look' and interviews some of the contestants at a Madonna lookalike contest.
What is it about Madonna that appeals to these women, and is she a good role model?

This is an amazing piece from the time capsule of 1985!
She was even bigger and entirely better a decade later. 1995 was when she performed 'Bedtime Story' at the Brits, released 'You'll See' as a single and had a campaign with Versace.
@carruthers100 The height of her popularity was in 1990 when 'Vogue' and 'The Immaculate Collection' were released.
Her image became classier and her records became more intelligent in the 90s (Ray Of Light is her best work IMO), but sales and popularity wise the 80s was her peak. She dominated the decade.

I put Mandy forward for a 80s Linda Lusardi contest and was strangely shouted out of the room by a group of women with pink and blue hair with nose rings.
