I totally agree, I mean I do think that both Heather and Greg are still extremely physically attractive and both don't seem like people who would rlly care about that, but other than that, the show does feature a lot more normal looking people than other TV shows. A subtle detail I love about the song is that when talking about the people who are at their sexual mercy, White Josh goes first to say “be they misters” and then Nathaniel pipes up to say “or miss.” It’s a small details, but it’s a slight subversion of the way a song like this would usually go, which would be the straight one singing about women finding them attractive and then the gay one piping up “or men!” Just a little but interesting detail, casually flipping heteronormativity on its head.
Honestly just some really good writing. Especially since all the songwriters for the show were straight or bi (to my knowledge.) So it really was just an awareness for the characters they were writing. Though the show as a whole has a very character centric mindset. Every moment, while random, feels very befitting of whoever the scene may be focused on.
Been doing fun stuff like that since episode one, where the two Josh's are known as "Josh" and "White Josh," rather than "Asian Josh" and "Josh." I always see the non-white guys of matching names get the race label, I have literally never seen someone be pointed out as "the white one"
I love how in this episode is implied that both are gym obsessed bc they were emotionally neglected and never learned how to process their emotions. So part of the "hot fit" part of themselves is just a sign of how broken they feel.
I love that there's a second layer here: it's not just exploring the idea that objectification and assuming that privilege fixes everything are wrong. It's also pointing out that the way we objectify men is noticeably different than the way we do women. The thing that makes this unsexy isn't what they're singing or where the camera is - it's that they're showing emotion.
I mean... it's true that men showing emotion is traditionally considered unattractive, but if these were women singing about how sad they were and ugly-crying, their strip act would also be considerably less sexy. So I'm not sure if that was a subpoint of this scene lol
@@michaelscott3174 If women crying is traditionally unattractive, why is the weeping woman leaning on her man's shoulder or crying naked in the shower a staple image of multiple film genres?
@@KyleRayner12 When did I say that women crying are traditionally considered unattractive in media? I'm saying that women crying in this particular scenario would be deemed unattractive.

I have to admit. This series (and maybe this song pushed me over the edge) made it clear to me that I was bi. I don't thing I would realized before then, I was living more or less happily as a straight person. But damn, look at those guys... That's admittedly hot

Same here, I'm gonna actually reawatch that
Anyone remember the Hot problems girls? "Hot girls we have problems too, we're just like you, except were hot!"
I'm guessing it was the point
We probably couldn't handle it. Remember when Rebecca pole danced at season 1, like bruh the guys wouldn't stand a chance.
@@V4nK3nn3th I was so proud when becca did that, I thought they were gonna do a basic spin but becca slayed. It made me feel zo happy as a poledancer
I listened to it after it has the same instrumentals so it's definitely a parody of it😭 not enough people pointing it out
YAAAS. MY GAY DREAM IS FINALLY ALIVE
Rick Wilson mee too......

...Yep

Don't objectify them with your male (and female) gaze.
Okay but when they harmonize or whatever at "without these pants" was 👍👍👍
White Josh finally got a song!
That drop and Nathaniel's dance at 2:55 just about killed me 😂
