This reminds me of a sad time in my life. We live in a small town in Indiana and my mom ran the local day care. She got a phone call about one of her kids. I was only eight (now 59) and couldn’t stay alone so we got in the car and went the the boy’s home. He and 2 neighborhood kids got on a piece of styrofoam and got in the river, which was behind their house’s. The current was rough and they tipped over! One pulled himself out on the side, a passerby heard the screaming and they were right under the bridge downtown and the passerby dove in and saved the girl. The boy was found hours later tangled under debris in the river, drowned 😪. I was in the car and this song came on and just reminds me of that horrible day. My mom finally came out crying and I just knew something bad had happened. This is so beautiful but reminds me so much of that day that I have a hard time listening to it. It’s so beautiful!
So So true, Back in those days a top notch falsetto was the standard for those 70's groups like the ....................↙️ Temprees/ Delfonics/ Blue Magic/ Skip Mahoney &The Casuals/ The Moments/ Dramatics/ Temptations/Chi-lites/ intruders, etc.!!!! #TheClassics💽💽💽💽💽💽
Philly Soul in JJ's House, I love it! The Stylistics were awesome, and this ballad was a staple slow-dance song at my school dances growin' up...great memories!
I saw an interview with Barry Gibb where he mentioned the Stylistics as one of the groups he and the bothers liked growing up. Barry’s not the only one with a killer falsetto!
We were so lucky i the 70/80s to have really soul bands compared to now Stylistics Four Tops Temptions The Drifters The Dramatics plus so many more great times
This song brings me back to when I was about 4 I was going to a funeral and this song was playing. Who has a better Soprano the leasing of the stylistics or Bobby DeBarge from switch
The Philadelphia Sound maybe the best R & B music of all time. The Stylistics, The Spinners, Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes, Teddy Pendergrass, The O'Jays. The list goes on and on. Great stuff.
Yassss. And I grew up on Motown outside Detroit. 'Philadelphia Sound' was its own category. Transcendent soul. Vocals & instruments. No backing tracks, no crutches. Pure art.
"lovie dovie stuff I don't understand" ...not sure if it's generational or not or music then vs. now where the heart was on the sleeve. I miss the Midnight Special - sigh
The Stylistics split with Thom Bell and went to New York, hooked up with Van McCoy, along with producers Hugo and Luigi. On the Avco label. One result was "I Can't Give You Anything But My Love." Exceptional! th-cam.com/video/kfCv4K0k6xQ/w-d-xo.html
At 7:13 I’m not trying to hate on you but it was a time unlike today when a young man would use chivalry and show a woman how much he cared for her and loved her and he would pull out all the stops bells whistles to show her. It was a time when you went to drive in movies, soda and shake shops, you asked her parents at the door if you could court their daughter. This music represents that time . Your young and from a different generation so I don’t expect you to understand this song. Falsetto was the singing style of that time.
My theory is the falsetto was most popular in the 70s when men were encouraged to be kind and sensitive. Later when hyper masculine, toxic males became popular the falsetto died off. I know that sounds like a crazy theory but I can't help myself.
Stylistics! Always and forever. All their songs are meaningful and beautiful.
Real vocalists back in the day...they enunciated the words so clearly and emoted for effect that made the songs so special!
There's nothing like smooth old school r&b✌️
When Russell come in, that part always kills me....
Right ✅

The Stylistics, they ruled the early 70's. This means you MUST do the Delfonics next.
🎯
I'm way ahead of you.
Loved all the 1960’s male groups but the Stylistics were my favorite. Russell Thompkins Jr.
They were the '70s.
@@Cosmo-Kramer You’re correct, facts matter so thank you.😉

For a great "blue-eyed soul" take on this classic, check out Simply Red's cover which is equally moving.

People rave about Simmon's falsetto, but I'll take Airrion Love's voice any day.
