      Honestly, the most difficult part of this process was getting the crush sleeve to crush to start setting the preload.
      Oddly enough, the crush sleeve on the front axle was effortless.

    Tips for setting pinion depth without having to pull and press the outer bearing a bunch of times ?

    • @RecklessWrenchGarage

      Using setup bearings makes it pretty easy.
      You could also use a pinion depth gauge.

    I never realized the 3/4 ton Burbans were leaf sprung. Did you consider putting a full float 14b in it?

      I did consider it. I have an AAM 11.5 on the Duramax. I’ve been considering swapping it over, but I’ve also been considering just fixing the duramax. 🤷🏻‍♂️
      The 3/4 ton and 1 ton are leaf sprung to support the payload better. It makes it impossible to pull the rear caliper by itself with the tools Howard and I have.

    if you leave the top bolt in the diff cover you can break the seal and drain the fluid without dealing with cover...

    The part no one ever shows is what the "happy paint trail" should look like. I know to add or remove shims to adjust, but Iv never seen anyone explain what to adjust to, what kind of trail I should be looking for in the gear paint.

      Due to the different gear and differential setups, the pattern will vary enough that showing one pattern may not help some people. We’ve done quite a few gear sets and each have a slightly different pattern. We’d prefer not to say ‘this is what you’re looking for’ and someone get upset they can’t get that exact pattern.
      When you order an overhaul kit from Yukon Gear and Axle, it comes with an installation guide that has 3 or 4 pages showing different patterns and what you need to do to achieve those patterns.
      If you search ‘differential gear pattern’ in google, it will pull up that same info.

    Did the 9 1/2 diff ever come limited slip? Swapping a 3/4 ton drivetrain and axles into my 1/2 ton cateye for a trail rig

      They came with the g80 option (gov-loc). That’s what this suburban has.
      I’m not aware of any other factory options for it, but there are a handful of aftermarket options.

      @@RecklessWrenchGarage I was looking at the Eaton True-Trac, if I reuse my ring and pinion since I already have 4.10's do I just need to get my backlash and wear pattern set with the bearing adjusters?

    I'm having a hard time understanding the difference between the gm 9.5 14 bolt and the gm 9.5 12 bolt axles and diff compatibility. Do you know if 9.5 gears and carriers can be swapped between the two?

    • @rjm7168
      @rjm7168 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the gm 12 bolt has an 8.75 ring gear, not 9.5.

    • @RecklessWrenchGarage
      @RecklessWrenchGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      The classic gm 12 bolt is 8.875
      The AAM 12 bolt in the newer gm vehicles is 9.5”.

    In our country vehicles don't have a C clip inside the differential.

    • @LScout800
      @LScout800 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Most don't, only some semifloat axles do such as gm 10 and 12 bolt, and dana 35.
