That's a very clean radio! Were you operating this with all of the original capacitors or do you think that it was recapped earlier? I understand that many of these were destroyed by the owners at the end of the war. Is this an earlier model? I also understand that some of the later designs used a pressed paper speaker frame! Great video, BTW!-John in Texas

I see that the LW and MW (AM) radio dial looks to be only reading 0 to 100 in some kind of measurement. I guess just to hide the actual frequencies to avoid DXing on it.

That hum is gotta be from the single digit microfarad filter caps in the power supply stage. A 2mf and a 4mf from the factory!!!???? The Germans made the ultimate in budget wares!
I wonder how good it could sound with a 5mf and a 10mf cap stage and an across the line cap after the switch?

I enjoyed both Part 1 & 2. 👍. Want to make an observation:
Please find a pencil or pen to use as a pointer; especially on the schematic diagram. The reason is while you are explaining the operation, your viewers would also like to see as much of the schematic as possible to reason the operation by themselves.
My second observation is, would not it be nice that in the description of each part you provide the url of the next part. Reason being, TH-cam sux in organizing videos properly. A multipart video has to be searched for, instead of TH-cam listing them sequentially. For example I searched high and low for Part 3, which you mentioned, but can’t find it. Thank you.

Those things you removed from the sides that were glued on are very hard to find and were made by a company called detex. You did a nice job checking out your ve301w and tracking down the simple problem. My ve301w has hum too and that hum is normal and should be there to some degree. Too many people stick in bigger caps in the power supply to eliminate it and that raises the plate voltages too high introducing audio distortion and very muddy sound.

I like the the movie very much. Only one point: I think at 3 min 48 s of the movie - there is a mistake. This is not gid of the pentode. You need to mesure the same pin but on tube nr 2.

These seem so simple by todays standards.... A nice 3d printed plastic cabinet and simple radio shack type storebought parts could make a profitable replica for ww2 reenactment groups, they'd sell like hotcakes!!!
