I get the stutter issue sometimes all you have to do is change a few settings, if you go into Gpu you can edit the performance and sometimes you just have to restart

@@canuck1234 Like I can't even imagine how terrible the battery performance on something like that would be. I am pretty sure with gaming laptops like that you aren't really suppose to use the battery, and should always be plugged in unless absolutely necessary. At least that is my understanding, although all that is really doing is degrading the battery further from overcharging so either way it's a bad idea.

That Alienware will still probably outlast that Acer. Acer has poor QC. Mine ran fine for a few years. Slow, but fine. Never had to call for warranty. My buddy had his mobo in his laptop die at 8 months from what looked like moisture issues. He Never exposes his equipment to moisture. He's one of those meticulous types when it cones to that stuff. The new warranty board again, Died. Only 2 months in! And they Refused to replace it claiming he had exposed it to moisture. He didn't even sweat on it. When we opened it up, the board had multiple spots of corrosion that had been there a long time. So he binned the 1.5 year old laptop and bought a new Alienware. The thing is a Tank. He's Stoked about it's specs, rigidity, performance, etc. But he had to pay for it. About as much as you'd expect.
Psychodegu AlienWare was a great company for making a gaming laptop cause of their superior hardware and they have a magical on their requirement before Dell Bought them. But then, the magic and the power of their technician are gone after Dell Bought them. That's why if only AlienWare company never accept to be bought by Dell, their magic and superior on their technician will still alive and keep to be the top gaming laptop ever than Gaming laptop today
Austin. I purchased my refurbished 7577, which has a 15.6" 1080p IPS display, a 1060, an i5 7300HQ, a 256GB SSD for $600. If I went scratch and dent, it would've been cheaper. It may not be as a nice of condition as the Acer (mine was pretty good), but it'll be better than the Alienware _and_ come with a warranty. It also comes with a smaller SSD and less RAM, but the 1060 is like 3 times better than the Alienware, and the 7300HQ is twice as good. I wish you'd acknowledge the better deals that people can find.
I've bought a used 2 year old gaming laptop - the lenovo y50. It has 8gb ram, gtx 860m and an i7 4770hq. I paid about 500 for it also. Although that cpu is not new it has 8 threads and that really helps. It can play all the games but next to my desktop pc it falls really short, the higher cpu frequencies of desktop cpus do make a difference especially in origins :P . Ultimately if you do wanna game a desktop is just the right thing to do unless you absolutely can't.
Question, do you expect us to find an Alienware laptop that you showed us today for $500 on eBay? What you should do is buy like 2 or 3 laptops around the same price point and show us why it could be worth it to buy a used laptop.
I bought a used 2015 origin evo15s for $650. Came with an i7 6700hq, 16gb ddr4, gtx 970m, 256gb nvme ssd, 1tb 7200rpm hard drive, 1080p 15.6" screen, rgb keybaord, and was almost never used. I got a fantastic deal and im not disapointed. Ive been using it for about 2months and ive had no problems.
@Austin Evans If you buy a used laptop, I would probably buy a brand new battery and charger for it; ideally an official or OEM one. And just have enough for a decent SSD and new RAM modules.

Austin, try reapplying the thermal paste for the alien ware. The main problem with a lot of old laptops is that their thermal compound has all been dry up which will start thermal throttling the laptop which gives it those stutters. Also, another thing you can do is use Intel extreme tuning utilities to limit the core current. I have manage to reduce over 10 degree Celsius by doing so while providing the same performance and stability.

Good video but I think getting a used Alienware was a poor choice. I'm in college right now and had a pretty low budget for laptops. In all my Ebay searching I've found that older Alienware laptops are usually still to expensive for the hardware you're buying, and if you search for some lesser known but still respectable gaming laptop manufacturers such as Gigabyte or even some of the system integrators like CyberPowerPC, you can find great internals for a lower cost. My own laptop is a great example. It's a CyberPowerPC Fangbook Edge which is basically a rebranded Gigabyte P35W v2. Came with an i7-4710HQ (quad core with hyperthreading), Nvidia GTX 870m, 16GB of RAM, a 1TB hard drive and a 500 GB Samsung 850 EVO SSD. Keyboard and touchpad are both usable and the 1080p display is sharp. Got it all for ~$470 including shipping. Side note about Ebay Alienwares, I've seen people who must not know much about gaming laptops trying to sell old Alienwares with first and second gen Intel i7's and Nvidia GTX 4XX series GPUs for as much as $500, so if you do want an Alienware you'll have to sort through a bunch of overpriced scrap metal to find anything even half-decent. Anyways, just my two cents. Thanks for the vid Austin.
Felix Walton a 1050ti pc for 500$ is realistic... but a laptop? Laptops are always overpriced. A laptop with a 1050ti usually costs around 1.5k or more...
SeventySeven do you mean a used 1050ti is worth 800-1000$ or a new one? Because most laptops that i find for 1000$ (in my country) usually have a gpu like a 960m
It was on Craigslist and the owner had bought it a week prior, his price was 900 I msg him and got for 500$ if I picked it up so I did a 1050ti 16g o rams and i5 7th gen
Wait, I'm planning to get a laptop called the "Acer Aspire Nitro 5"... The Acer Aspire in this video seems pretty similar. They both also look really similar, only that the Nitro 5 is red and black with red backlit keys. The one I'm planning to get has 1000 GB HDD, 128 SSD, 12 GB RAM, an NVIDIA 1050 Graphics Card, and an Intel Core i5 - 73000HQ. All for about $1400. Is this worth it? Or should I get something else better.... If so, what should I get???????
Not sure if it's just because of your country or something, but where I am the Acer Predator with an i7, 16gb of ram, GTX 1060, 256gb SSD, 1Tb HDD, and a 17" screen is $1400 at BestBuy, which was just the first place I happened to check, so I'd keep looking around if I were you. That Predator is literally better in every way.
KRCplays I would recommend not to get a gaming laptop.they are overpriced and die in a few years.if you want a portable system get Nintendo switch or if you want to play at home build a desktop or even get something like a ps4 or an Xbox because graphics card being expensive af nowadays due to cryptomining
I'm from India. I'll suggest buy Acer laptop only if there's a service center within their suggested range. I'll say but Acer Aspire 5. Don't buy Nitro
Hey Austin! Whenever you test CS:GO, type in the console "net_graph 1", it will display other things as well and a more updated frame rate! (To enable the console, its under game settings...)
I paid about £150 total for my used Dell Inspiron with a 6700HQ an 960m. Though I did have to swap the internals into a new chassis and replace the snapped WiFi antenna. The build quality isn't great but you can't argue with that price to performance. If you know the history of the product and have the ability to fix it then buying used and broken is the way to go.
I picked up my gaming laptop for 400 USD plus 16 dollars shipping, it's a quad core 3rd gen i7 and 16 GB ram with a GTX 670mx with 3gb vram. It plays modern titles at 1080p medium settings. It also overclocks like a beast
I recently purchased a used hp omen from a pawn shop. I'm pretty happy with my purchase, it was under a year old and still had 2 months of warranty on it. They were asking 199.99 plus tax but I talked them dont to 195 out the door and got them to throw in a free laptop bag. 7th gen i7, 128 ssd, 1td hdd, 8gb ram, gtx 1050ti. It's not the 4k display but I still think I came out on top.
I have a used MSI laptop with a 960m (2gb) and i7-6700HQ, with upgraded drives (one NVMe m.2 SSD and one SATA), that I no longer use because it has some... quirks (I bought a new laptop). Mechanically, everything is fine, however, there is some cosmetic wear (mostly scratches and other wear), and one of the hinges separated from the screen and is held on by tape. Since the drives are swapped, some of the software doesn't seem to work right. Before connecting to a new network, you have to reboot for whatever reason, and some applications don't like Ethernet. It still runs modern games reasonably, with PUBG (on medium) at about 40-50 fps, and GTA V 1080p 60 fps at high settings (most other games I play are either uncommon or I use weird settings). I have also upgraded the RAM to 16gb. For anyone wondering it is the MSI GE62 6QD Apache Pro model. And one last thing, the CD drive doesn't work, it never has even from the factory (but who uses that nowadays anyway). Would this be a good time to sell the computer before it gets too outdated? What could I get for it? Any help would be appreciated because I don't know a lot about the used PC market.
Guys, if you play on mid range laptops, turning on battery saver can give you better thermals without compromising performance. For example when i use it, my i5-6200U runs at 2.3 Ghz instead of 2.8. Fps stay the same in most games and i get 5-10 degrees less on both gpu and cpu (since they are on same heat sink) Also a cooling fan base helps a lot. I bought one from ebay for less than 5$ and i get 15 degrees less.
So far, my favorite laptop that I've had so far and still use is a Dell Precision m6400 laptop which was Dell's most powerful and expensive laptop from late 2008 to early 2009 and still seems capable today with a Core 2 extreme QX9300 cpu with 12 gb ddr3 ram and a 1 gb ATI firepro m7740 and an intel 480 gb ssd.
I own all Dell hardware, it's business hardware so it's not really designed for gaming. But that's who owns and produces Alienware today. But, I have been impressed with some of Acers newer hardware. I looked at a Chromebook, pricey at $349, but for that $349 your getting pretty close to a Pixel in both performance and build quality. Very, very nice. I don't think they could make a gaming system with that kind of built at that price point of $600 of course, but I wouldn't doubt they could beat most other systems at getting close.
The biggest issue with a used laptop will be the battery life. They can barely last an hour after a year or two of heavy use. You can always replace it but it can get pretty expensive, which would defy the point of buying a used laptop. It is something to consider if you intend to use the laptop on battery.
With 'serious' GPU's in laptops breaking non-stop after 4-5 years, I wouldn't. Also 500 bucks seems like a lot, 4 year old laptops that were more than that new fetch 3-400US here. I bought my (new more expensive) Dell E6230 for 250 bucks, warranty and all, 2.5 years ago. These days with decent graphics being installed into processors, I see this going the right way.
I have been using used gaming laptop, Alienware (lasted 2 years after warranty from 2nd hand)and Gigabyte (but realistically it’s quite new, considering it has still 18 months warranty out of 24 months) both have did a good job and still doing a good job
I bought that Alienware when it first came out before I knew about building desktops. Regretted it after a year. Overheated a lot, and the gpu and cpu underclocked themselves and I couldn’t change it to the point where Minecraft ran 14 frames on everything low.
If it's rpga and mxm then yes, used laptops are a good choice to build into modern thresholds over time. If it's a soldered machined then no, it's not worth purchasing as your stuck with its current level of performance. This is of course if you want it to be your main machine for everything.
i personally prefer used because im always broke and ive never had any issue with a used product. For example, a few months ago a bought a used msi for $200, it had an i5 (forgot the exact kind), gt 920m and 768p screen with 8gb of ram. this computer can play practically any games i like.

Sir, can you unboxing XIAOMI GAMING LAPTOP?
Anas Adani If you want more laptop reviews, check out Dave2d channel, he reviews all types of Laptops.
raptor Those Xiaomi laptops are really good one, especially the one with i5 and gtx 1060. It all comes down to the price they launch it in India. If it sells around 60000 in Indian Markets, then it will be great.
Bad idea, xiaomi stuff has serious reliability problems. A phone is usually replaces in a year, a gaming laptop isn't.
Sir???
I have that computer, it’s actually really good
(Alienware 13r)
I get the stutter issue sometimes all you have to do is change a few settings, if you go into Gpu you can edit the performance and sometimes you just have to restart
I have the r3 17", still my daily driver. Top of the line I got it $500 off at Christmas with the advent of the r4.
Gtx970m, core i7(????), 16gb ddr4, 4k 60-120hz screen. Its only been 4 years and that gtx970m is already starting to show its age, still a fantastic laptop though.
Wow you made a whole video about a used laptop, gaming one at that, without mentioning battery life.

@@jish8681 Yeah, gaming laptops are more like portable desktops. I can't agree with you more, bud.

Is a used wife worth it?
Well is it refurbished?
Muhammad Aqib You might need to update the processor and get the next gen Graphic card. But yeah.
On one hand, you know that a used wife can handle everyday tasks, but the wear and tear could be an issue. On the other hand and new wife is a guarantee that you will be satisfied. Overall, what the fuck is this comment section
Muhammad Aqib Depends on the year manufactured. Anything over 20 years ago isn’t worth it. Also make sure to do a virus check you can never be sure these days. My last one had aids.

Thks for reviewing austin , the laptop
Alienware has terrible build quality. The keys often will fall out of their laptops in less then a year.
How many years did your Alienware last as precisely?

AlienWare was a great company for making a gaming laptop cause of their superior hardware and they have a magical on their requirement before Dell Bought them. But then, the magic and the power of their technician are gone after Dell Bought them. That's why if only AlienWare company never accept to be bought by Dell, their magic and superior on their technician will still alive and keep to be the top gaming laptop ever than Gaming laptop today
Meanwhile in Australia that Acer is looking more like $1300-$1400

bl_vr there’s that and there’s buying a used Alienware that cost $2000
Was watching this video worth it?
Question, do you expect us to find an Alienware laptop that you showed us today for $500 on eBay? What you should do is buy like 2 or 3 laptops around the same price point and show us why it could be worth it to buy a used laptop.
"Hey gith--his is hoston."
Worth it, as long as you look around. Especially in your local area, not just online

If you buy a used laptop, I would probably buy a brand new battery and charger for it; ideally an official or OEM one.
And just have enough for a decent SSD and new RAM modules.

I got an msi gs65 gtx 1070 used for 1100. It's in perfect condition I'm glad I bought it.

I got an i5 7thgen and 1050ti laptop used for $500 on Craigslist
Felix Walton a 1050ti pc for 500$ is realistic... but a laptop? Laptops are always overpriced. A laptop with a 1050ti usually costs around 1.5k or more...
spaghetti lol what kinda laptops are you looking at? a 1050ti laptop is $800-$1000
It was used tho.

Don't get it, it heats up!! Check out DaveLee's video review
For that price better get a Dell GAMING with same storage and graphics
KRCplays I would recommend not to get a gaming laptop.they are overpriced and die in a few years.if you want a portable system get Nintendo switch or if you want to play at home build a desktop or even get something like a ps4 or an Xbox because graphics card being expensive af nowadays due to cryptomining
I'm from India. I'll suggest buy Acer laptop only if there's a service center within their suggested range. I'll say but Acer Aspire 5. Don't buy Nitro

Was thinking about this before buying a pc, thanks for the informative video Austin
So far, my favorite laptop that I've had so far and still use is a Dell Precision m6400 laptop which was Dell's most powerful and expensive laptop from late 2008 to early 2009 and still seems capable today with a Core 2 extreme QX9300 cpu with 12 gb ddr3 ram and a 1 gb ATI firepro m7740 and an intel 480 gb ssd.
if you buy laptops of the price of cars then you should expect it to last a while.
should def redo this video! would love to see if getting a $300 laptop vs an old $300 gaming laptop would hold up!
OMG Austin you are the best youtuber so far love your videos!!!
Actually SSD can make a huge difference in gaming performance. Large open world games are the ones to take a perfomance hit when using a HDD.
Got an Asus G75VX with an i7 & GTX 670MX for $200, loving it so far!
Looking at budget tech is all you do
With 'serious' GPU's in laptops breaking non-stop after 4-5 years, I wouldn't.
Lovin these budget laptop vids 👍👍👍
