It’s exciting to see that someone still makes a true hammer mill with flails. This is a much better design than your typical shredder. I’ve had a Roto-Hoe brand for over 30 years and they work great for mulching. It does not really take the place of a chipper.

Thanks for the video! Been wanting one but prices are NUTS! Read the reviews, watched the videos, then took the plunge!
Arrived with a minor dent in the hopper edge and missing hardware. Notified the vendor who went over and above to make things right.
Assembly was pretty straightforward without using the junky manual. Started easily and ran like a champ! Spent the first 5 hours running branches 2" and under and it almost feeds itself!
Yes, I had to take frequent breaks to clear the chute so it wouldn't get jammed up.
Many reviews claimed it was dull or something because it wouldn't feed well. The simple solution was to rotate the limb so the knife wasn't hitting the flat from the previous cut.
Doing that, I could chew through an 8'x3" limb in under a minute!
I've got tons of chips for the reactors now!

    • @Digidoc316
      @Digidoc316 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@apjack2553 ANY piece of power equipment will have trouble with green woods; wood not adequately dried.
The sap heats into a sticky resin that clogs teeth and binds up blades. After cutting down a tree, you need to split the tree into pieces no bigger than 3"x18" then stack it for drying. Let the stack sit, well ventilated but protected from weather, for about a year; 2 if you can. Then chipping becomes much easier.
I have discovered that the square blade shape does make chipping harder than a curved blade. The straight blade has to push straight through the fibers; the curved blade slices through at an angle. This combines the actions of a knife and a saw.

    • @Digidoc316

@@apjack2553 Haven't had a major problem with dead branches up to about 3".
The blade traps the limb on the bottom of the chute and the blade cuts it at about a 60 degree angle with the exit of the cut over half way through the diameter. Then it wants to bounce the limb so I turn the limb 90-180 degrees and the blade cuts it again. Haven't done pine but oak and maple are no problem.

@CountryLivingExperience: This has been so useful! Thank you. Powerhouse are not the only ones to produce 'garbage' instructions. It would be so helpful for consumers to have videos from manufacturers on how to assemble, service and maintain these machines. I live in a remote area and don't have the time to drive miles to a 'dealer' to have a chipper serviced. I am hoping some of the elements you demonstrated will help me assemble my own machine, even if it its slightly different and carry out the maintenance, to some extent.

I bought one of these a week ago. It runs well and chips okay. The low discharge is a nuisance. What I am having problems with is the belt. I haven't been able to keep it running for more than about 30 minutes without the belt coming off. I'm not feeding anything larger than 2" in to it so far and if it gets a little bit of a jam, it bogs, throws the belt and then it's 30 minutes to wedge it back on. Have you experienced this? The belt it came with is 44" on my unit. I think that's too short--it is a bear to reinstall. If you've dealt with this, how did you fix it? I'm thinking 45" or even 46" belt. Thanks for the feedback.

@countrybreezefarms6859 Sounds like the gap between the cutter blade and the inlet tube is too big. This happened to me on a different machine. Smoke is the wood being burned via friction. It could also be a piece of wood stuck between the cutter disk and the housing. If you have the patience and still own the machine, try to shine a flashlight down the inlet tube to see how much of a gap there is between the cutter blade and the inlet. I don't know the spec for this machine, but there should be an allowable range. If it's too large, the wood will not be cut cleanly by the cutter and it will smoke when chipping.

One purchaser's review of this chipper said the welds broke where the tow arm attaches to the chipper the very first time he towed it into his yard with his riding mower. I would recommend getting a normal chipper, you even had to use force just to get a smaller branch in, a 420cc 10-14bhp chipper can do up to 12cm logs, and when u drop something like the thing you just had in there it just eats it up and pulls it in, these with a crusher and mini hole for shredder are awfull for branches that are crooked and bent, also if there is anything on it, it literally needs to be stripped clean just to go in, and when it goes, you still have to sit there pushing it which is crazy stupid.
So sorry but u can youtube some powerking 5-6 inches 420cc's, can just drop all u had in there and ul be super happy, and u dont have to sit there and push, so I feel like you definitely wasted ur money here, especially that its a 420cc for this kind of small job as well, a 220cc would been just as fine.
you probably realised this by now, but if you haven't then you have defo not looked at ur regular chipper. so paying 1500 dollars++ for this and getting this kind of poo, just a small hole to put in Super clean branches and then having to push it, is just, really terrible. These models are outdated and ur vid is literally just 2 years old which is new in my opinion.
I take it you didn't do much research before buying this, cause if you buy a normal 420cc chipper like powerking, even 220c would run way better than yours and much faster, much more efficient, much easier to use, etc, you already realise the mistake here.
Just a guidance for what you really want vs what you ended up with.

@@CountryLivingExperience I’m not wishing you ill or hoping that your machine fails or denying your testimony. I hope it gives you excellent service and performance for decades. I’m just saying I have seen more testimonials against this machine than endorsements. Obviously both sides can’t be right.

@@kaitsamari No problem. I know you weren't wishing ill on it. When I researched this machine a few years ago, the reviews I found were great. That is part of the reason I purchased it. Where are you seeing bad reviews now? What sites?

@@CountryLivingExperience on Amazon . I suspect sometimes these reviews are from competitors trying to diss. The stick chute on this looks the same size as the ones on 3” chippers though. And videos of this one make it look pretty sluggish. The size of the motor would logically make it more effective. Maybe the blades or general design are subpar. The output looks anemic though, and having it so low is not well thought out, ergonomically speaking.

@@CountryLivingExperience several people on here have commented that it chews up belts. Maybe an owner just has to take this as a cost of ownership and operation and change it every time you change the oil as a regular maintenance item.
