      Hi mr. BigD, very nice finishing.
      I would like to get the same sunrise on a Guitar I'm about to work on.
      You used Angelus black, Red, yellow and Brown. Ok
      I cheked out to purchase them and I find out they are aveable in more than One type per colour, for exemple there Is Magenta Red, Fire Red, simple Red...
      Would you be so kind to let me know which were the exact ones you used .
      Tank you and once again: great job!

    I like the fact the way the body was glued together resulted in a Chevron type shape at the bottom and a larger one towards the top.

    Reminds me of leaves in autumn, curious to see what orange added to the colour pallet would look like on this.

    i have a solid piece of swamp ash. wonder what a light roasting of the body after the dye is applied could do?

    Simply Stunning. Do you think this could work on a poplar guitar? The grain obviously isn't as pretty and exotic as that wildwood, but could i get a similar effect with some feathering? Also would I need to use a conditioner or sealer on poplar before attempting this stain pattern? Also, I would like a gloss finish, what would you recommend for putting over top that stain? Also also, how does using (leather) dyes differ from using a stain??

    Where do you source your woods from? If you don't mind saying so. Planning a build or two. Would like to know as you seem to get some nice pieces to work with. Thanks either way......this one turned out nice by the way. Very nice......as always
    Thanks again

    Are you using the dyes fully concentrated or are you diluting it when you're applying it?

    • @TheGorillafoot
      @TheGorillafoot 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Those are fully concentrated.

    What color did he do the back? Really like this scheme. Think I'm gonna do this on a hollow body build.

    That came out really nice. Do you ever build your own designed guitars? If so it would be really cool to check it or them out I bet they are great. Nothing wrong with Fender and Gibson copies at all you do an awesome job, just curious.

    Loving all the finishing videos, think I've watched all of them in the last week. What do use for a finish coat when you use the leather dye?
    Planning on going this route for my first build and I'm curious what works well, planning on poly and polishing, but open to suggestions.

    What's your opinion on "Black Maple"? I cut down a 70' Black Maple tree in my backyard about 10 months ago. I've been letting cuts of it dry in a dry room in my house. It looks like it would make for some great quilting.

      +3 Card Monty should be nice. Play off the colors in the wood. Greens and blacks usually

  • @grahamNC83

    You use to water down your colors or at least part water, do you not need to do that with Angelus?

    What would you recommend for a satin finish on top of this one? Thanks!

    • @bigdguitars

      if I was going to finish this I would probably use a lacquer get a high sheen on this.

    is it necessary to sand it? Can I do it without sanding any time?

    Hi
    This leather dyes can be mixed with shellac ?

    I just bought a large selection of dyes to start my project. What would be the best wood to practice on before committing to the real body? Will plywood work?

    • @bigdguitars
      @bigdguitars  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      no plywood won't give you the same feel. you need to use some sort of scrap wood. is it a maple top? Home Depot sells lumber that you can play with.

    • @edpack4390
      @edpack4390 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a Rosser mahogany body with a maple cap. I was thinking about the furniture grade "birch" plywood...the kind that has the nice furniture grade top and back. It's like $60 per sheet but I could cut it into quite a few body size blanks for practice. Maple blanks would be fine as well if my local stores have them. :-)

    would three ounces of each color be enough to finish the front and back of a guitar?

    Does a 3/8'' top add significant weight to the body?

      not that much to be honest.

    I've had some musicians autograph one of my basses. What is the best way to preserve them without affecting the sound of my bass?

    • @bigdguitars
      @bigdguitars  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      add a thin layer of lacquer/poly won't change the sound. you need to seal it in with what ever finish in on the body already. Thats a good topic for another video.

    • @haynerbass
      @haynerbass 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would LOVE to see that video. I believe it would be of interest to a LOT of people. I'm not sure what the finish is though. It's the Epiphone version of Paul McCartney's Hofner bass. Thanks for the compliment.

    Nice Burst! Question, do you think the same feathering application and overall coloring technique can be done using standard wood stains? I have a nice 1st coat of "Jacobean" stain (Light coffee brown color) already on, and it requires a dark edging. I was thinking I will have to pickup a darker stain to get that dark edging. Also, what cloth material are you using to apply the rub? Thanks in advance for your input, here is a link to the body in question that I am in progress on... th-cam.com/video/UjSEnAmSZD0/w-d-xo.html
