Great lessons to be learned. Aaron, this is the first time I've noticed even a "hint" of concern on your part. After an 11 hour travel day, you two still rock! Enjoy and continued safe travels. 😎
Hey, a theme song! Reminds me of a 90's tv show. lol The suspense in finding a camping spot was killing me. haha Hey, taking a break from camping & coming back to civilization once in a while will keep you guys from burning out. Thanks, great video.
😂 It was a rough first night in Colorado! We've been boondocking for a month straight now! We do have a small break coming up and the RV should be done in a couple weeks!!
Oh, great reminders/tips about finding boondocking locations! We are driving from our home in Panama City Beach to Montana in a few days. Planning on 6-7 weeks on the road with our F150 + Teardrop, and we are so excited to begin our retirement travels. But we are also a little intimidated since this will be our first boondocking attempt. (Especially going into Labor Day crowds and routing around Hurricane Ida on the way out)! Thanks so much for this timely video. It was a helpful reminder about the challenges of boondocking. That “Chasing 70” term means so much more than finding comfortable temperatures when you have mudslides, hurricanes, etc to avoid. We will definitely be using campgrounds and hotels when necessary. Know y’all enjoyed that shower!! Thanks for honest and helpful content as always!!
Sounds like you guys have some fun times ahead! It definitely gets easier the more you do it, but the weekends are usually busy. Gotta get a spot on Sun- Thurs and you're usually good! Use www.campendium.com Enjoy!!
@@IreneIronTravels I’ve been browsing through Campendium, and it appears to be a great tool. Will definitely do the Sunday-Thursday searches also. Thanks again!
A hotel once in a while is awesome, it’s good to see your smiles in spite of not finding a spot. Make the best out of life and you’ll always end up on top! 😘
I live in Colorado - typical that most campsites are filled up early on Fridays. Most folks take off from work at noon and head up as fast as they safely can. You also don't want to plan on heading into Denver on Sunday afternoon/evening, I-70 and the other highways into town from the mountains turn into parking lots.
I forgot to mention the Nebraska Archway museum at 2:49, a definite rip-off, but there is a great bike path along the Platte River and then the Pioneer Village museum just south on Hwy 10 which also includes RV campsites! We like to drive about 3 hours, bike for an hour +, see some stupid attraction and then "camp". It takes us a week to go from west of Denver to Milwaukee to visit family, but who cares? 200 miles a day is about our limit.
OMG, eleven hours of driving. We try to limit things to 3 hours. But then again, I just turned 60. Leadville has usually available dispersed camping just past the Mount Massive golf course and the really fabulous Mineral Belt Trail for your bikes. My Summit County is even more difficult to camp! Since we moved here 35 years ago the population of Colorado has nearly doubled, NFS campsites have actually decreased and now with the reservation system, forget-about-it! In a pinch, always stop at the local police station and ask if you can park in their lot, the chamber lot, the library lot or the town hall lot. Most times they are most accommodating. :)
Sucks to strike out on finding a camp site but that lodge was a cool find. I appreciate that you two share these long days with us. Seeing the work and when things don't go to plan, it makes for a more interesting story. It can't always end with beautiful vistas and sunsets. Of the travel channels I watch, this is one of the most human. I always look forward to watching these at the end of the week.
going to ask about bike security. What do you guys use? We are not using electric bikes however, we can not have them inside the trailer all the time but don't want them stolen either. Hoping that tent repair will be easy for you.
We have folding metal locks, a cable lock, and the bike rack has locking j-hooks. Any theft is possible, but it would have to be a very deliberate bike thief with power tools to cut through everything!
We stopped in Vail for lunch while heading east to Denver. Never saw so many “NO RV” signs! Supremely unwelcome, we moved along. In our LTV, we’ve become experts in deciphering parking signs. We’ve parked on the street when we don’t have a campsite in Jackson, Pittsburgh, Boston, Fargo, Sault Ste.Marie, and even Manhattan Beach in LA and more. Also, does Aaron actually have a drovers license? Happy travels!
Pour over coffee is the best! An alternative to the $200 hotel room is a youth hostel when you’re only looking for a bed and a shower. Many even have rooms for couples. Just a thought. 😃
I'm over it now 🤣 but wasn't happy at the time. Its only about a 1/4 in on the bottom flap. No pin stripes, but the Tremor is definitely BIG on the trail! Feels good though...... crawl over almost anything. Thanks!
We had a similar, but bad experience at the end of our 5 week trip to Glacier and back. It was our last day and we found ourselves in Knoxville heading home to the Asheville area. It was a Friday night at 5 pm. We couldn't find a campsite under $185 and decided to stay in an inexpensive motel. Little did we know at the time, but that inexpensive motel had bedbugs and within a day upon returning home, we found 4-5 bites each on both my wife and myself. Not the best way to end what was a fantastic trip in our class B.
If you are close to Estes Park, then be sure to do the drive from Trail Ridge Road over to Grand Lake. Or maybe you’ve already “been there, done that” ?
Thanks! We planned a trip up North, but it's tough with the limited time we have back home and are pretty booked up with friends and family. We want to do Voyagers NP next year!
What are the odds. My wife and I were there for two nights in that Opus Lite camper at the deck in the A Lodge parking lot. Just showed her the clip. Great content and hope your travels are going well.
Forgive me if I already commented previously, but since you guys are/were in Colorado, have you ever been to Leadville ? We stayed there and took the highway from there over the Continental Divide and down into Aspen. A slice of pure Colorado, and demonstrated two places at extreme ends of the spectrum - working-class mining town Leadville versus snootyville Aspen.
Hey Bill, we did get a chance to visit leadville. You're right it is a great place! We had a friend running in the leadville 100 mile trail race and it was quite a site. I think Leadville is a must visit for us when passing through now. Thanks!
@@IreneIronTravels The local mining museum is incredible. I’ve visited a few museums in my time, but this one blew me away. Everything in it was fascinating …..

Hi Chris and Aaron! Welcome to Colorado! It seems the last CO video I saw of yours was in the dispersed camping area by Salida and Buena Vista; just up the road from the RV dealership! Pro tip: you are on the wrong side of the state! Come west!, The “front range” is way busy with the Boulder, Denver, Colorado Springs-ites! Nederland is a neat area….I do hope you get back there. When I was going to school in Boulder, I would snow shoe up there frequently. Fortunately, I can do that right out of my house now. Safe travels!
Living out of a truck is not easy, but every stop is an adventure. It’s great to see you still enjoying the unexpected. Waiting for the trailer must be hard!!
Nederland is the home of the famed Caribou Ranch Music Studio where much great music was recorded including “Rocky Mountain Way” by Joe Walsh… I hope y’all are still up in the Rockies; September is the prime rib of the Colorado calendar… 🎸
We will be doing the exact same trip around CO as you on a Sunday night in late September...this video gave me lots of ideas...thanks! I travel in a Pleasure Way and it's always interesting determining where to stay each night.
Sorry you had such a tough 1st night in Colorado. Yep, boondocking and paid campsites are a scarce commodity in the Front Range on a Friday night! What were you thinking! :-)
Ah man! We're in Boulder and would have let you stay here. The National Forest areas near here have had more rules implemented due to troublesome situations, and bad fires being started by irresponsible folk. :(
You were so close to so many dispersed camping areas in the Nederland area! Especially in the Tremor, you could access a few that others might not want to. Where are you off to next? I’m now in Las Vegas, and I’m surprised how many places there are are here for dispersed camping at about 7-8,000 feet.

Hey there. We put it up on rv trader .com with a premium add. It's about 200 bucks and the add can run for a year. But...... rv's are seelling pretty quickly!
That's true Rachel! I think it's safe to say Chris prefers a hotel over the tent! She's hanging in there tough and we're both ready for the new RV after a month plus of straight boondocking in a ⛺!
Yes, she had a "crazy eyed" look toward the end there admitting defeat in not finding a spot. That was a lot a driving for one day. I'm sure that $200 shower felt good!
I don’t see the “broke all the rules” headline but it was an educational or informative story. I was expecting you getting busted by a park ranger or something. I’m surprised she’s still smiling. I can’t see why they have restricted camping but I guess it would get too crowded.
I don't see it on Amazon anymore, but the brand is Doctor Hetnzer. We needed one to be at 1000 watts or less for our inverter size at the time and it is 1L size. Great for two good size cups. Used it almost every day since January 2019.. and works great.
Oh no, y’all have another fail in this video you failed to see. The trucker coming down the highway as you were coming out of the rest area. You weren’t watching your mirrors, if you had been, you’d have seen the tractor trailer coming at you and you should speed up or slow down as the big rig had the right of way. You both reached the merge point at the same time and the trucker was forced to back off. As a trucker for 40 years, I know the choice words he was screaming at you while you were holding your Go Pro out the sun roof. Major Fail.

I don't see it on Amazon anymore, but the brand is Doctor Hetnzer. We needed one to be at 1000 watts or less for our inverter size at the time and it is 1L size. Great for two good size cups. Used it almost every day since January 2019.. and works great.
Could you tell where you stayed again? Good luck with your travels.
Thanks! Yes, it was called Adventure Lodge Boulder Colorado a-lodge.com
Pretty cool spot!

Yes, that is the old Wagon Wheel Motel…looks cool.
Oh cool!
Have you tried Harvest Hosts?
Yes! Love them, but you need a self contained unit(no tents). We used them in with our van alot.
What was that song playing….it was perfect for your trip to CO.

I am sorry - but I still find these videos so funny as it looks so awful. BUT very pleased you found somewhere to stay for the night. Safe travels.
Oh don't worry Sue..... it gets much worse!😂
Hi!
👋
👍
Oh no, y’all have another fail in this video you failed to see. The trucker coming down the highway as you were coming out of the rest area. You weren’t watching your mirrors, if you had been, you’d have seen the tractor trailer coming at you and you should speed up or slow down as the big rig had the right of way. You both reached the merge point at the same time and the trucker was forced to back off. As a trucker for 40 years, I know the choice words he was screaming at you while you were holding your Go Pro out the sun roof.
Major Fail.
