Brother I've watched your video 20 times , did exactly what you said. And 2 weeks in now of starting from nothing I've got 12 customers and half of them want regular mowing. Just from Facebook community groups and some flyers.

very informative my guy - to the point and easy to follow.
Started with a car and now looking to get a more suitable vehicle. Thinking to go with a van.. Peugeot Expert, Renault Trafic or Mercedes Vito. Prefer them as they are lower fuel consumption, more storage space, better to drive, security etc. Strange how only around maybe 30% of mowing business in Australia use a van rather than a ute? Vans are so much more practical I think, and cheaper to buy.
You're a legend for making this mate! I'm 16 years old and have started a lawn mowing business in Australia. I don't have a car, but my dad can drive me around on Mondays. I've only got two clients right now, but to be fair I only started a few days ago (got those two clients from family connections). If you were to put yourself in my shoes (no car most of the time) how would you go about marketing, because I can only really go to the couple of streets near me house?
Love your ambition mate. The hardest times are at the beginning stages. I recommend hopping onto "canva" or you can also Try "vista print" - play around with some ideas with business cards. Get hundreds, shipped to you. Spend a good day walking the streets dropping them off in mailboxes, if your courageous do some door knocking and politely let them Know who you are and what your aiming to achieve. "gday, my name is --- and Ive recently started my own lawn mowing business I would like to Drop off a card for if you are ever interested in my services in the future." You will do alot of waiting, not everyone will call back but you WILL get people calling you. say 1 out of every 30 to take it to the extreme. Take the jobs and from there the
Possibilities are endless. You could potentially end up getting their neighbours, friends, colleagues, etc. When you take on new jobs always have business cards with you as you will find people will always want them to share with others. Do the job with quality in mind, don't rush and your efforts will pay off. People will see how Good You are and will want to Hire you. Also, throw some adds up on your local buy swap sell sites on facebook. Nothing to spammy, pick busy times like mornings, lunch, evenings and weekends. Write posts like "lawn mowing, free quotes, in whatever particular areas etc" put an add on Gumtree (expect scams from there) join "airtasker" only if desperate. Always check your notifications and messages. You can also make a free google my business page if you want to get serious. Then take on what you can until you get your desired client base. - you can then pick and choose. Stay honest and keep your ambition, you will succeed my friend. All the best !
You could try offering your services but using the homeowners own equipment & fuel etc just charging for an hourly rate for your labour- until you've earned enough for a ute. Have something in writing indemnifying you from damages to there equipment because some homeowners will have expensive equipment and an "All care taken but no responsibility" deal could save you from buying someone else a new mower instead of you a simple ute. A pushbike oughta get you around the neighbourhood and I have seen a fella in my area with a trailer for his pushbike that ingeniously carries a mower, whipper snipper, a rake & a broom ( mini trailer ) . Hard slog sure, but you can do it- all you really need is the will.

Share your before and afters. Turn pics into advertising, you can use the app called canva
Don’t go to cheap, include your phone number, ABN, be prompt with communication and follow through with your words, a lot of clients prefere someone who is reliable and sticks to their word. Most contractors just suck, and that’s where we can pick up their slack..

The main thing apart from advertising is keeping what customers you do got happy... yea the internet is a great thing but nothing on earth beats WORD OF MOUTH when ppl talk about you and how good of a job you do everytime for them that's what gets you growing alot.. Jim and Andrews and all of those guys got so huge from literally word of mouth.. doing a great job everytime and keeping people happy goes a very long way.. because they talk about ya to their mates or family and that reputation held u got with ya customers is the only thing that's gonna bring em back everytime..

You just told everyone everything you need to know to start a mowing business.. Unbelievable!
A big thing is not knowing what to charge, I started out at $45 an hour and it's now at $90.
It ends up better for the customer having a higher hourly rate because it allows you to build up your equipment base & become so much more efficient.
The amount of lawn a 42 inch zero turn can cut through in such little time is insane!
If you paid someone using a self propelled mower it would take them two or three times as long or more, you'd end up paying more for the guy charging $45 per hour with than you would for the guy with the zero turn because the zero turn gets it done three times as fast.
If it was a 6 hour job for a self propelled mower, $45 × 6 = $270
But $45 per hour sounds cheap?
Don't be fooled by the prices, because using good a zero turn, it would take you 2 hours at $90 per hour, meaning you're only charging the customer $180 compared to $270
So .. would you prefer to pay $45 or $90 an hour?
And those zero turns cost $7,000 for a basic model. You're never buying one without putting your prices up.. where are you gunna get the money!

Hey mate, what kind of transport setup would you recommend for someone just starting out? Do I get a ute and trailer? Or would a ute be fine?
Gday mate, I have seen people get started out of a hatchback! You can start out small. A trailer Is good for ride on mowers and storing your tools and equipment etc. A ute would be ideal 👍
@@valleycoastlawns Cheers for the response mate, yeah. I think a ute would be ideal, currently driving a sedan. Might trade it in towards a GWM ute or something. 2WD is fine for towing ?
Hey mate so sorry I just seen this message! Rear wheel drive is fine Ive got a turbo diesel courier RWD tows the 10x5 no worries. Depending on your areas, if it's wet and you have paddocks to mow that could be challenging as I know from experience lmao
Get a van, so much more practical than a ute. Reccomend the Peugeot Expert, Renault Trafic or Mercedes Vito as the best option. You get more storage space than a ute, lower fuel consumption, better to drive etc and you can set them up really nicely with racks for your hedgers/whippy etc and roll the mowers out the side sliding door.
