Here I am, half a world away (Texas), knitting and listening to you talk about your projects and talking back to my phone as if I’m sitting in the room with you. 😂
Thanks so much Carol. It does make me happy that they can still be worn years later. So much work has gone into them. They definitely arent fast fashion. ;)
Hello Tash, another fantastic podcast. You have such way of explaining things thoroughly. Your students are so lucky to have you. you are so inspirational. 🥰
I’m sorry to hear about your father, but I’m so glad that you’re celebrating him!!! ❤My mom passed away 5 years ago, but on her birthday that first year without her, I baked her a cake. I sat in front of the oven while it was baking and I sang “Happy Birthday” to her. My service dog sighed when I was done singing and my mom’s dog gave me a kiss…it was such perfect responses from them. It was special. Always celebrate them….🥰🥰🥰
Thanks Tash. I love the memories you have of your dad bringing berries and other treats and how you will be honoring his memory a year after his passing.
I have just joined you and am enjoying your knits and your sparkly demeanour. My dad died 13 years ago and my 2 sibs, mom and I are still doing a September picnic in memory. We all come up with 10 quiz questions about family/events. At the 1st picnic my brother said 'You know dad didn't much like picnics.' We all laughed because it was true.
Thank you Tash, it’s lovely to meet you. I was referred here by The Knitty Stew, even though I’m an Aussie living in Tasmania! Your projects are really nice. I liked the break up of stitch count and meterage/yardage per gram for calculating required amount to purchase. The retreat sounds great and I’m sure you will have a great time. Now I will go back and watch a few episodes of your previous podcasts. See you next week.
Fab as always Tash! Your friends are so lovely, I would be tempted to shorten them. Your snow wonder is going to be so lovely, that yarn looks so good. Yay for your cami neck edge, it looks really really good. What a lovely way to celebrate your dad. Healthy competitive, it took me so long to reach that place, I was a win at all costs player 🤭😬😂 still find myself on that border sometimes …. not good 🙄 Have a great week settling back into work, happy knitting, see you soon, Karen 🥰
Thank you so much Karen. I have thought about shortening those tops. But I reckon as soon as i do, styles will change and all the bottoms will be low-waisted again.... Hope you have a great week. xx
I can't think of a better way to celebrate someone's life than doing something together that they used to love doing with you. I found that story and hearing about your dad so heartwarming. Thank you for another fabulous knitty, chatty episode!
I like the lightweight pullover but especially the chocolate coloured one. I don't favour the cowl neck. Hats are a good gift option. The Storm Sweater is turning out well to my suprise and I can't wait to see how the completed garment looks like. You could not wait to start the Snow Sweater. The Celebration of your Father's life is a great idea which left me quite teary. My favourite wrap please finish it and parcel it up and mail it to me lol. Oh you did not park Cami 9 it will turn out to be a favourite wear. ❤😊
Thank you so much Rosemary. Your comments made me smile. Hats are a great gift. Knitting the Half and half Wrap as a gift would definitely be an act of love. ;) xx
Love your Storm Sweater....beautiful texture. I'm knitting Andrea Mowry's Traveller pullover and she does the short rows at the shoulder and then a 3-needle bind-off, like you are planning for your batwing top. I looked up the Tolsta Tee in fingering and the gauge is 24 stitches and 32 rows in stockinette for 10 cm. What a wonderful way to honor your beloved dad, with berries and treats and games and fond memories....I cannot believe it has been a year already....happy celebrating and honoring.
The Charisma is lovely, but it seems that many knitters had issues with the pattern. I’d love to make it, but am worried that I would be lost. Love to hear how you’re going to plan it 💜 I applaud how you and your family remember your dad. What a lovely way to lift up his life!!
Hi Tash, I’ve enjoyed your podcast as always. You might like to know that Madeleine from Fruity Knitting episode 141 talks about the Petite Knits bag. You might also be interested in what Andrea has to say about Tyne Line.
Wow that half and half wrap is a lot of knitting but it is looking really good! Liked your friends from the vault especially the chocolate brown. Can’t wait to see the storm sweater finished! I like oversized jumpers, they are like a warm hug on a cold day😊
Oh, Tash, I forgot to mention that Madelaine (the daughter of the Fruity Knitting podcast) made that Petite Knit bag, so if you do decide to make one, it might be interesting to hear her thoughts about making one.
Hi Tash - the Tolsta Tee in 4ply has a guage of 24 stitches and 32 rows rows per 10 cm/4 inches in stockinette stitch on 3.5mm needles. 2.75 are used for the neck rib. The pattern has a 3 page adendum for the fingering weight version. Thanks for your lovely videos 🙂
Another wonderful video. I made the storm sweater but I made the smallest size because I didn’t want to be lost in a huge sweater. I am so happy with the end result. I look forward to seeing your completed. I totally agree it was a fun knit and I can see myself making another. I was checking your tutorial list and saw you have one in the list on checking gauge. I look forward to that as it is one area I struggle. My local yarn store just closed after 30 years and the gal there always checked my swatches. I guess I now have to really hone that skill. 😢 I am so happy for you to be completing your experience teacher requirement. What a relief that will be when it is finished! Blessings to you on celebrating your dad! ❤great way to keep his memory alive. 😊
Thank you so much Maryann. I will definitely do the gauge tutorial soon. I have to do some short rows ones first and then i reckon i can get right on to it. I am so sorry to hear your local yarn store has closed. that is very sad news. What yarn did you use for your Storm sweater? Hope you are having a lovely week. x
@@mostlyknitting thank you for considering the gauge tutorial. I can certainly wait until you have time. I am very sensitive to wools/mohair so I often times have to substitute yarns. I used the Berroco Vintage color 5101. It is 52% Acrylic, 40% wool and 8% Nylon. I do not have any issues wearing it directly on my skin as I have used this yarn before.
Such a beautiful thing to celebrate your dad's life in that way. I'm so sorry for your pain, however, celebrating his life in that way is so very nice and good. I love your podcast and have learned lots of information from you. I thank you for introducing me to ysolda (I have knit several of her patterns now, including the Musselburgh hat) and the skimmer socks. I'd love to knit camisole no.9 at a later date too. Thank you. You are a positive present in my life.
I'm at the same point as you are in making my half n half shawl. I agree that it goes so slowly, it'll be a while before beginning another one. I purchased enough yarn to make three in total. Whew! Yours is looking lovely! ❤
Thank you so much. Wow - you have a lot of garter stitch in front of you. At least you can break it up with other knits if you arent in a rush for them. x
How beautiful to hear how you’re honouring your Dad’s memory 🥰 I’m sure he will be smiling down upon you and laughing along. I’m just binding off a test knit this morning, then I’m casting on my Snow Wonder. I’m going to pretend you and I are having a knitalong together 😊
Thanks so much Robbie. You don't have to pretend. We ARE knitting along together. Keep me posted as to how you are going and how you find knitting the bobbles. What yarn are you using? If you reply, can you do it in a new post? YT never notifies me of replies to my replies which is frustrating. Little pet peeve of mine. Looking forward to hearing how you get on. :)
Hello Lovely👋You deserve 7 macchiatos from me for all the joy and wealth of knowledge you've provided with your videos,Tash; 😉☕🙏Have a happy weekend.Always remember my Dad.in special ways too 🌱Hope Bec wears her gorgeous garden jumper at the retreat 😍👌Your pals blue colour yarn ( ceil?) suits you beautifully.I just ordered a lot of Bendigo yarn for the first time and love the colour charts too.Used to be quite popular years ago.Take care xx
Hi Tash!! so look forward to your podcasts! I love all three lightweight pullovers, I really love that they are so fitted and long and the collar, I feel like most knits are so oversized these days...all your knits are coming out great! the charisma top! I have had that one in my wishlist forever but was feeling intimidated, when I heard at some point you were going to knit it together I bought the Patina yarn, I am really slow and not that experienced bought would love to try and knit it alongside (even though here it will soon be scorching hot!) since it is a free pattern, do you think you can go into even more details, as you tend to do, when you do your mods? I have the tolsta tee fingering weight pattern, although I have not done it, the gauge is 24 stitches x 32 rows. Wishing you a lovely wholesome celebration of your dad's life. Love and Light to all of you ✨💚
Thanks so much Barbara. I'm so pleased you might knit Charisma along with us. Because it is free, i will share ALL the mods. I will print off the pattern and write down my changes to it and share. xx
Thank you for the new episode Tash. I missed it yesterday, but it is just as good with my Friday morning coffee as with my Thursday morning coffee 😊❤️.
The lakes T by ozetta is a lovely crew neck t in 4 ply with a 26 stitch gauge. I love how your yarn for the snow flake jumper is knitting up, so fluffy and squishy. Bendigo knitting mill has also just done a limited run of cotton Marino yarn in 4ply. Let's hope they continue and expand this range. The other knitting mill you may wish to check out is Nundle. You can book a tour and see the working mill and they have online shopping as well. Their balls are 50 grams. Another fun knitting event in my little town is the knitter's Picnic. It's the 25th & 26th of may. The whole town puts things on to coincide like food and music.
Hi Tash, I swear I responded just after you replied to me, but I can’t find it anywhere here. Seems it got lost in the ether. I’m using Brooklyn Tweed Shelter in the Iceberg. I was tempted to use De Rerum Natura Gilliat in Ciel, on your recommendation. Sadly, I couldn’t source the quantity I need in Australia. Yarn Trader had a great supply of Shelter, so the decision was made. I have to say I’m finding Shelter to be very sticky and heavy going. It could just be that it’s 10 ply and my preferred yarn weight is 4 ply. I’ve only just joined in the round on my second day knitting. I think I might cast on some socks or a hat for when my hands start to ache. I’d like to finish by end-May, but this is certainly arbitrary. I’m extremely impressed by how much knitting you get done with a demanding teaching job, extra study (hope you knocked it over!), and a busy family life. You must be an excellent multi-tasker and scheduler. I’m excited by our Snow Wonder KAL, and look forward to seeing your progress. If you’re interested in what I’ve made, you can find me as PugInARug on Ravelry. Cheers, Robbie
Hi Robbie. Thanks for sharing (again - sorry about YT) what yarn you are using. I'm sorry you arent finding it easy to knit with. The Shelter yarn is definitely very sticky. It does make for a lovely and warm garment though. Looking forward to seeing your progress as you post pics on ravelry. That reminds me, i need to take a few photos of mine. ;)
I only found you a few weeks ago but I very much enjoy watching and listening! Your friends from the vault look great and suit you so well! I do hope super low waisted pants do not come back in style though...(to make the lenght work a bit better) 😂Came to tell you the gauge of the Tolsta but you have that already 😊Other fingering tees I have been eying (with slight modifications) are the Brooklyn Raglan Light by Tori Yu and the Seaside Tee Light by Cheryl Mokhtari/Coco Amour. The Cami No.9 is going to look so good once the armholes are done! I am super close to finishing mine but I am dragging my feet on finishing the hem. It's not going to be much fun.
I love that Brooklyn Raglan Lite - the texture on the sleeves is lovely. In the Favorites! Good luck with your Cami #9. I am really looking forward to getting the armholes done and then just motoring in stockinette down the body. :)
Lovely to see you again Tash. Love how you can have so many projects on the go and forward plan your knits. I’ve decided I’m a “small project” knitter (i.e. nothing too big or complicated). I’ve been enjoying your podcast while having breakfast ( a 2 cup of tea session today 😂😂). Zoom yoga then coffee and a warm homemade scone and my new book afterwards It’s lovely and sunny here at the movement but only 6 degrees so no outdoor knitting/reading just yet. I absolutely loved the Bonnie Garmus book Lessons in Chemistry. It’ll be interesting to hear what you think about it Thanks for sharing 🙋🏼🏴
Wow Bec’s Secret Garden sweater is absolutely beautiful, and after hearing about all the colour management calculations in a previous episode I’m sure it will be a truly cherished FO! I was wondering why a strand of mohair is held with another strand of yarn (eg. 4ply) for some projects. Apart from adding the fluffy factor does it effect finished weight? Drape? I’ve not tried the combination yet. Thanks for another terrific episode, Tash! 😃🧶❤️
Thanks Susie. The mohair will change the gauge, add some fluff factor and have an impact on the colour as well - it can soften variegation, make it look marled, make the colour look completely different sometimes, at least from a distance. It probably adds some drape as well. I love it. Definitely worth giving it a go. :)
Thanks so much Tash. While I was staying in South Gippsland recently I visited a gorgeous yarn shop and bought some gorgeous colours of mohair, thinking I would hold 2 strands together to make a soldotna but now I’m thinking that’s maybe not a good match. Overthinking yet again! 😱
Love your channel and it’s so nice to watch content from someone in the same hemisphere!❤ I have to tell you that every time you show your Storm sweater, I don’t know what type of illusion makes me think that the side where you wear your watch (I believe it’s the left) has a longer shoulder. Can’t figure it out why… but it’s gorgeous! Like all the other things you make. Thank you for sharing your work!❤
Thank you so much Cath. I just blocked the Storm sweater before picking up for the sleeves and had a good look and they are definitely the same. Maybe the angle i am sitting? We'll have to see if it is still like that after blocking and doing the sleeves. x
The neck on the Tolsta Tee is a round crew neck. The short rows shape the neck beautifully. I’ve made 3 and have a fingering wt version on the needles now. I like the fit better than Andrea Mowry’s patterns. Her sleeves are too tight for me.
Thank you so much for the details on the Tolsta Tee. It sounds quite a good gauge for a lot of fingering weight yarn but probably not the light fingering i have in stash... :)
Thank you so much Katherine. I think that would be a bit of an issue with the yarn i am planning to use for my black tee. The gauge is going to be more like 28-30sts i think... What yarn are you planning on using?
Hi Tash, I am having a tough time deciding between a summer DK version in Sandnes Garn Line or a fingering in Madelinetosh single held with an alpaca. The colourway on the Tosh is sublime (Texas Tulips) and the white alpaca gives it an even softer look. My summers are NEVER as hot as yours so I can wear wool in summer! So I am currently surrounded by swatches. I look forward to seeing what you cast on as rightly the Tolsta neckline is square-ish. Cheers Katharine
Hi Tash, I was just thinking about your plan to use short rows instead of stair steps... that works well in stockinette, but will it warp the pattern? I did it recently on 2x2 ribbing, and you can see a little bend in it. Something to think about. Love your podcast! Greetings from an American in Germany 😊
Hi Karine. Thank you for your thoughts on any distortion with short rows in pattern. I am curious about that. I think no matter what, with this fluffy yarn, it would not be super noticable. But I am considering that now so thankyou. What method short rows did you use? I was planning on doing wrap and turn. Thanks for your lovely comment. :)
@mostlyknitting Hi Tash! I used German short rows. I've never used wrap and turn, so I don't know if they look different. I bet that you're right about it being less noticeable with the fluffy yarn. I was making fairly dense fingerless mitts and used short rows to lower the sides at the pinkies. It looks fine, but I was surprised that you could see a slight bend in the ribbed fabric. 😊
Hi Deb. The skeins were pretty well matched. I just alternated for the last 20 rows (knit until 10 rows left on a ball and then did one row of each for 20 rows). Alternating up the side. I have to be a careful with my tension when i am changing but it works out fine in the end and not noticable. :)
How do you feel the Madeline TML fairs in garments? I havent knitted garments with a single ply for fear of excess pilling or slanted sts. Have either of those been a concern for your pullover?
It is FANTASTIC! Pretty much no pilling. I have not found a yarn that is as versatile as this one. It blocks beautifully. This sweater has been worn loads and for years and i have never had to depill it once.
Here I am, half a world away (Texas), knitting and listening to you talk about your projects and talking back to my phone as if I’m sitting in the room with you. 😂

That reminds me, i need to take a few photos of mine. ;)
Absolutely love your podcasts - as I have said previously, I don't knit - but I might have to start 😊
Thanks so much Carol. x
Zoom yoga then coffee and a warm homemade scone and my new book afterwards
It’s lovely and sunny here at the movement but only 6 degrees so no outdoor knitting/reading just yet.
I absolutely loved the Bonnie Garmus book Lessons in Chemistry. It’ll be interesting to hear what you think about it
Thanks for sharing 🙋🏼🏴
Your morning sounds so lovely and relaxing. I hope many of your days start this way. x
It’s my usual Friday…… Except this month I’ve got a load of Scribing sessions with the kids at a local High School for exam time.
It's so good that you do this. Your help is so needed!
Hi Tash, guage for fingering Tolsta is 24 sts and 32 rows over 10cm on 3.5mm needles
Thank you so much Diane. xx
the tolsta 4 ply gauge is 24 stitches!
Thanks so much Jasmyn. x
Thank you so much for the info! I think i should buy the Tolsta Tee. It sounds like a really good versatile pattern. :)
24 sts x 32 row = 4 inches. Finished chest measurement of 31.5" is 550 meters and 35.5" is 615 meters on 2.75 needles cheers
Thank you so much for the details on the Tolsta Tee. It sounds quite a good gauge for a lot of fingering weight yarn but probably not the light fingering i have in stash... :)
Hi Tash, the Tolsta fingering gauge is 24 x 32 on 3.5mm. I am just about to cast on! ☺️
Hello, loving your podcast and knits. You mentioned a town and field bag, who is the designer of that bag? Thank you
Hi Cathy. Grainline Studios sells the pattern. Excellent and clear instructions and tutorials on TH-cam as well. :)
It's good to notice these things. Sometimes it doesnt matter but it is good to have it in mind for when it might.
With the MadelineTosh tops (from the vault) did you alternate skeins or helical knit?
Fingering Tolsta = 24 stitches and 32 rows in 10cm/4” :)
Thank u so much. :)
