Beautiful sweaters and colours Tash. Great reviews on the hats. So very kind of you to knit for your friend's family and I'm sure they will definitely appreciate them in the cold weather. Happy New year to you and the family and look forward to seeing all the lovely knitting next year.❤
Yes that would be a rainbow hat I would think. also either of those two colours would be a cream. Make sure you post the finished tapestry project! So cute! Happy New Year!!!
I love the colours of your 'Throwover'. You are doing so well with your hats, and how kind you are to knit six for your friend and his family, I think the four year old will love that hat. I did a couple of hats for a charity this year and during the year have done several gift knits but I'm not sure I'd want to do six in a row, much as I like knitting hats! I've done ten this year and am currently working on number eleven. The kitty cushion that your daughter made is beautiful. My very best wishes to you and your family for a wonderful Christmas and a happy and healthy 2025.
Thank you so much Karen! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas. :) I know what you mean about knitting so many hats in a row. For me it is usually an adjunct project, so definitely not what i would normally do. But they dont take too long and I already had two done - plus it is winter over there.... Three down and three to go - and those three are all part way there and they are different patterns so that is making more fun than it would be if they were all the same pattern. :)
Thank you so much for your fun filled podcasts this year, hope your husband feels better soon, wishing you a happy and peaceful Christmas, kind regards🙏🥰
I think the sprinkled hat is fine for a rainbow colored hat and also the cream one you've already started is great, too. It's a really nice thing what you are doing to outfit the entire family. Remember that we as knitters really obsess over colors but someone who does not regularly craft probably doesn't. Just my $.02! I really hope you have a lovely Christmas and that Gus and your husband both heal quickly!!
Hi Tash! Regarding the decreases, I have done loads of crochet in my life and I have never heard about just going through the back loop in the first one 🤔 But next time I'll try and see if there is any visual difference between the two options. And for the finishing topic, I used to just pull the thread through. But then someone told me that it closes better if you just do an additional chain stitch and then pull through the yarn. And actually, I think that it closes much better than doing it just from the last stitch. I wish you and your loved ones a Merry Christmas 🌲 and all the very best for the upcoming year 🎉 Waiting to see all your lovely knits 🤗
What a lovely Christmas surprise!! That pillow cover looks wonderful. I love the look on your face when you describe the family hat project!! They will love your gift I’m sure. Merry Christmas to you and yours.
That was another great podcast. Hope you enjoyed christmas with your loved ones. And that re-designed bag is great. I did the same as you: bought one for myself for Sinterklaas ( we dutchies give our gifts on the 5th of december).
Merry Christmas Tash to you and your family. Thank you for all the yarn goodness throughout the year. Very much enjoyed. I look forward to watching you in 2025
Merry Christmas and sending healing thoughts to everyone! The speckled hat will be perfect for the 4 year old. He will love it. So sweet of you to do hats for everyone! Thanks for the great videos - Enjoy!🎄⛄️🎄
Happy Christmas Tash, I crocheted until i learned to knit. I always did an extra chain for binding of its more secure and passing the yarn through is the same as a chain. In crochet it's easier to unravel than in knitting so it's always better to secure it well.
Thank you so much Josephine! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas. :) Thank you so much for sharing your crochet tips re finishing off. That is so helpful for me to know. :)
Tash, thank you so much for your time and sharing with us your beautiful knitting 🧶 projects during this past year. Merry Christmas and hope the new year brings you lots of joy, happiness!🇨🇦
Thanks Tash for all the time spent this year, chatting with us and sharing your knitting and life. Wishing you a merry Christmas and hoping for restored good health fir all ❤
Merry Christmas. The crochet decrease sounds specific to that pattern and is not always done that way in blankets, garments and other projects. Often it's used in amigurumi. Sometimes an invisible join is used at the end when you snip your yarn. Each designer is different.
Meerry Christmas. I thought you might be interested to hear that I have used JMCO as tubular cast on for 2x2 rib. The first needles were a couple of sizes larger, a round or two of stst then K1 from front needle, *P2 from back, K2 from front* ending with K1 for BOR. It makes a nice start for a hat, once the gap has been dealt with as usual with in-the-round knitting.
Thank you so much! I am TOTALLY interested in that and I am going to try it for sure the next time i do a 2x2 rib cast on. I hope you had a wonderful Christmas. :)
Thank you for posting on the Holiday - so nice to find the episode during a bit of relaxed time after all is prepared for tomorrow. The turtle neck is attractive and the color is flattering on you as well. Happy Christmas from California 😊😊
Depending on how much fabric you have, you could center a zipper between two rectangles of fabric and not have to sew a seam along the length of the zipper and the embroidered piece. If the fabric is just long enough, I would sew the zipper tape along the edge of the back of the embroidery (right sides together), then sew the other zipper teeth tape to the backing. It's easier to sew the other three sides with right sides together when the zipper is already in place on one edge. Merry Christmas!
Thank you so much Jillian! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas. :) I only just saw this comment after i sewed the pillow. I had one false start but managed to get it the second time around (thankfully had enough fabric) and very happy with the result. I'll show it off for sure next podcast.
That project bag is heavenly. I’ve got some birthday money and I’m like hmmmm…. The Stella quilt would be really fun, modular knitting is so cool and for me, addictive. Thanks for the fun, hope everyone feels better soon and Merry Christmas 🥰😘
I can’t believe you took the time to 😊record on Christmas Eve. Thank you so much for this. I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas and happy new year 🎊
Merry Christmas Tash, it is a true joy watching your podcasts and seeing all the wonderful makes come off your needles. I do hope your husband gets his knee sorted real soon or God grants him a miracle. I could do with some prayers, I have to move and finding another rental is proving very difficult and extremely expensive and competitive and it is stressful. I’m doing my best to keep it together so my children could still enjoy Christmas yet inside I am a mess and hanging onto faith in the Father at the same time.
Thank you for your prayers for my husband. He is doing a lot better. I will pray for you that you find a great place to rent soon. Thinking of you and I pray that 2025 is a positive and safe year for you and your family. xx
Merry Christmas to you and your family and all the best for a happy and healthy New Year. Thank you for all the sharing of your projects and personal stuff. Always interesting and inspiring.
The grey sweater has taken my interest as I like the neck. Why do you do a purl row before the ribbing ? I was surprised with the Christmas ornament. I like the new hat great easy knit. Hats glorious hats. I love them make great gifts. I am doing a cabled hat and have remembered to make the ribbing a bit longer. The cushion cover will be a good addition to your home. The Peacock Tee is splendid. Once you finish the Andrea Mowry Sweater you can mail it to me (that is how much I like the knit) I will pray for the decrease of pain in your husband's left knee and the return of your Dr ❤😊
Thank you so much Rosemary. I am so glad to hear you love the Andrea Mowry sweater. I am really delighed with how it is turning out. The purl row before the ribbing was just what was in the pattern. Design feature? It isnt something i usually go for but i did it here as i think it kind of suited the dropped hem. Happy New year for Wednesday! :)
It sounds as if you have had quite the week. I hope everyone starts feeling better soon. I have been crocheting for many years and I have never done decreases as you described. I do an invisible decrease where you just go through the front loops of the two stitches. As for finishing off, most of the time I use a yarn needle to go through the last stitch again. Crochet stitches can end up coming out a little bit easier, so you need a little extra security and I weave them end much more than I do knit stitches. Have a lovely Christmas with your family. Good luck on your sewing project.
Merry Christmas, Tash, to you and yours. I am so sorry to hear about your husband's left knee. I hope that whatever is causing his pain is easily resolved. That must be so discouraging. I bought the EXACT SAME Re-designed bag from Skein Sisters. It's so beautiful that I can't quite decide which projects to use it for. But awfully glad I sprung for it. I hope despite your mum's toothache and your husband's knee, you have a lovely day. All the very best, Rhonda
Thank you so much Rhonda! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas. :) All the family are doing much better, thank you! Isnt the bag lovely? Such a great size. I have all my hat WIPs in it at the moment. :)
How wonderful to see a new posting today. Feeling blue as daughter has COVID and isolating. Discovered a new to me free hat pattern Copy Cat C.C. Apparently all the rage a few years ago but new to me. Have a great Holiday Season🎉
Thank you so much Lisa. I am so sorry to hear you werent able to see your daughter at Christmas. I hope she is feeling ok and out of isolation. Thank you for recommending the Copy Cat CC hat - very cute!
Hi Tash! In crochet there’s different reasons to so SC in back loop. I suspect in this case it may be because it’s to flatten/thin out the stitch for a more seamless join in the round. I’ve seen it in crochet cowl patterns for example. I don’t think I’ve seen that in flat for first stitch only. I’ll be casting on PetiteKnit September hat, my first attempt at brioche 😅 Will e curious to see how the Hipster hat turns out! Wishing you and family a Merry Christmas 🎄 and more health in the New Year 🎉Thanks for lovely year of podcasts, it’s been a joy to watch on Sunday mornings while knit 🧶 ❤
So nice to get another podcast from you on Christmas Eve! I’ve been making hats lately too and my go to cast on for a tubular look but way less trouble is the Alternating Cable Cast On. Have you tried it? It gives a very nice edge and just the right amount of stretch. Merry Christmas!
Thank you so much! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas. :) I like the alternating cable cast on for 1x1 but not as much for a 2x2. I've gotten so used to JMCO then tubular cast on, it is just as easy as anything else for me and I think i like how it looks much tidier for me than any of my other methods. :)
You could attach a really tiny store-bought rainbow tag to either side of that speckled child’s hat - that way the child is bound to be satisfied it’s “ a rainbow hat”☺️ (If you can’t find one you could perhaps use one off a secondhand toy or garment, time permitting. As for the “cream” coloured hat - tough one because when your friend stated “cream” as their preferred colour, which shade were they actually envisinging?…
Thanks so much for the suggestions Zillah. I think i am going to go with the yarn that is inarguably cream, rather than the one that "could be considered cream". With colour, i think it is better to go with what the person is likely to be expecting. :)
Thank you so much for the suggestion Michele. Depending on who it ends up going to and whether they like it or not, i will give that a go at flattening it out if that is what they want. :)
Thank you so much! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas. I'm not too sure about pompoms. I think they are quite polarizing and I am not sure who this is going to... :)
Happiest holidays to you and your family! Quick question- you mentioned once that you do “lever knitting,” which I also enjoy on dpns for socks or long straights (14”) under my arm for garments. But you implied that you use it on circs. So do you let the fabric drape over the front of your thumb? And if so, did that take some getting used to or perhaps a modification of the technique? I learned it from Yarn Harlot many years ago but also use continental and sometimes “flicking.” Thanks again for your generous heart!
Thank you so much! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas. I do let the fabric drape over my thumb. I switched to this method when i was about 12 years and a friend from school taught me. It took a bit of getting used to and I was slower before i got quicker but i have never looked back. :)
Tash, I have saved this one to my HATS folder. So much helpful info! One question: What is your head circumference? I imagine about 20" or 50 cm? Mine is about 22.5", so I pay attention when you give the stitch counts. I'm in SE Tennessee in the SE United States, so hats are not a must have item of clothing for most folks I know, but I walk my doggo twice a day, so I wear one daily in the winter. As I type this, I think it's 5pm Christmas day there, so I hope you and yours have a wonderful holiday season!🌲🎅
About the Jacques Cousteau hat - I don´t know what sort of hat that was he wore but I don´t think it was like a pot on his head but it had a little bit of a pointed tip so maybe that just is how it´s supposed to be...
Perhaps you are right. It just didn’t look like it had a point in the main photo of the red hat. Either way, it is a great hat pattern. Just good to know what to expect when you make it. :)
Hello Tash, it‘s the second time one of my comments disappeared from one of your videos 😳. They were both very friendly comments, not in the least offensive. This time, I recommended a crochet channel, where I learnt a lot about neat joins and changing colors. Question to other commentets: Is Anyone else having this trouble? 😫
Hi Inge. I think the problem comes when there is a link in the comment. TH-cam tends to delete those as a way of preventing spam. I wish i had control over it. I do love to get recommendations with links so if there is a link to share, maybe send me a ravelry message or one to my email? Thank you so much. x

The grey sweater has taken my interest as I like the neck. Why do you do a purl row before the ribbing ? I was surprised with the Christmas ornament. I like the new hat great easy knit. You could attach a really tiny store-bought rainbow tag to either side of that speckled child’s hat - that way the child is bound to be satisfied it’s “ a rainbow hat”☺️ (If you can’t find one you could perhaps use one off a secondhand toy or garment, time permitting.

Would adding a medium to larger button on the inside top of the Cousteau hat help keep it lying flatter on the top of your head?? Just a thought.🤷🏼♀️
Thank you so much for the suggestion Michele. Depending on who it ends up going to and whether they like it or not, i will give that a go at flattening it out if that is what they want. :)
Merry Christmas! How about a Pom Pom on the Cousteau hat?
Thank you so much! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas. I'm not too sure about pompoms. I think they are quite polarizing and I am not sure who this is going to... :)

Thank you so much! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas. :) My head circumference is 21.75" or 55.5cm
I'm praying for your husband and pup.
Thank you so much for your prayers. They are both doing much better.
Thank you so much. x

Such a busy life you have! Your knitting projects put me to shame. All the best to your hubbie and you pup….
Thank you so much Vicki. They are both doing a lot better thankfully. :)
