Where I hunt at, there's some old roads and I just ride a mountain bike for runnin' n gunnin'. Plus, if you use a manual call, get 2 calls from different makers, and alternate the calls between your stands.
I’ve decoyed some huge mobs of crows(late summer/fall). Set a perfect scenario. I like an owl decoy six feet off the ground with a crow decoy at its feet and a couple crows on the trees above the owl and one or two on their sides on the ground(I’ve used pieces of trash bags as crows). They get real mad and I’ve had hundreds over me(they weren’t bothered by the gun fire). I stay camoed and behind screening, rather have screened shots for an hour then unscreened for a few seconds. Wear gloves a mask and use a camo gun. They don’t like the caller as much as me “caw-ing” or using a call. This has worked crazy well for me. They are smart.
My crows if I call them after first two shots fly away and do not return. Completely ignore this call for a next week probably. Just scream in response from far away.
I don't think the same crows come back after being shot at. But I tend to see several waves of crows come in after shots during a setup. I imagine they are not the same birds. In farm hunts, its common to kill hundreds over the course of a day. Birds just keep coming, though I imagine its not the same birds.
What is the best shot size for crows? For 20 meters any one works, but for 50 meters small size shot not so effective but it has many projectiles, big size shot is better but less projectiles leave enough space for crow to sneak between them.
The "Best" would be TSS #9. But I use lead #7.5 target loads because they are the cheapest and crow hunting requires alot of ammo. And they can still down birds to 50 yards+. If steel, I would use #4s. If Bismuth, I would use #5.
Hi Michael, my favorite decoys are the cheapest ones you can get. The more you have the better. Flat black plastic ones that you can push into the ground or clip on trees is all you need to get started. For calls, just about anything will work. Volume matters more than anything. If you are looking at electronic calls, everything I've seen comes with good enough crow options to get started. The more expensive Fox Pro calls don't come with better options than the cheap ones, but you can download better options to them down the road if you get into it.
@@michaelgallardo6113 I have the Bass Pro ones, they work great, but they aren't cheap. You will need to expand your search, something like this is all you need nexgenof.com/flambeau-crow-decoy-per-12/ those are about $7 per decoy. Ideally you would be able to find smaller quantities so you don't have to pay so much at 1 time. But you can start with just 2 and add more over time.
The cheapest real FoxPro you can find on sale. Everything they make seems to be very high quality and works great for predator hunting and anything you can use electric calls for.
I don't actually. In our area crows eat mostly garbage. It's basically pest control. But if they had a more natural diet in a more rural area, they would seem alot less gross lol.
They might see you and spook. But you will always have to make some kind of visible movement to mount a gun and get in shooting position. Unless you just hide with your gun aimed at the sky waiting for them to fly in front of it...

That's right for 90%+ of Crows. Miss one and you're done for the day. Highly intelligent birds.

@@TheNewHuntersGuide I haven't seen many cheap ones that are flat . Amazon had 6 collapsible ones for 46$ bass pro or Cabela's is 2 for 25.

Any advice on a good caller?

Try the Acme, needs lots of practice but once you get it right it's good and feather weight
good info!
Thanks so much!
Does anyone have a 4th strategy?
Thanks
I just want to be friends with one
Do you ever eat the crow that you shoot? I’ve heard that they are actually quite tasty!

😂
@@jimiliev3924 ya, I watched a video where some guy’s brought a couple of crow back and cooked em… taste’s like an old boot!
Rubbish - the the moment you ‘jump up’ they will be gone!
