More than sixty years ago my teacher, Mr Smythe, wanted to include this beautiful hymn in school assembly. Nobody wanted to sing a solo. He knew I had a good reading voice, and asked me to read the words. They have been with me ever since. When I visited my daughter's church in the UK, before COVID-19 struck, the musicians played and sang the hymn beautifully. At the end one of the leaders came and sat next to me and asked, "Why are you crying Steve?" I told him how much the words meant to me, they are a gospel in miniature, and then he asked me to tell the whole church. I can't help but cry every time I hear the hymn. Jesus is everything to those who believe on His name.

This hymn is so precious. I heard it first, I think, as Twila Paris brought it back to popularity in Christian radio. I was a new Christian, and it struck me. It struck me with the sheer, exquisite *beauty* of the thoughts within it. So far higher than the wordly, empty sentiment that humanity is constantly expressing. It pierces the soul.

I really cry when I listen to this hymn, it's so lovely.
This is one of my favorite hymns. My mom, Judy, sang in the NCC for many years and it was one of the greatest highlights of her life. She adored the choir. She passed in 2018 and every song from the NCC reminds me of her. 🥰

For those, who want to sing along. This song nurtured me in my childhood, then I was aspiring to become a propper Christian, even before I was allowed to become Baptised. I started my journey at the age of 6 and finished at 21 (2003) Because Baptists don't baptise children, but on the confession of Self. Been walking with Jesus Christ ever since. Keep pushing on your journey and never relent! For you are not alone. Take up Lord Jesus Christ and All the Angels in the Heavenly Choir. If your wish is to become Christian this Christmas, as I was Baptised on the last Saturday of the year, give your name up, and be blessed. But this hymn is Catholic.
It was forged out ot Catholics sentiments in between 6th to 9th century Ireland.
And I know Baptists, Catholics are a "no no " for them.

Estonias history was unique, what made denominations work together, what otherwise don't even belong to the same superstructure in America. I mean we had common enemies, and put aside our differences. Which led to cross referencing and using stuff, giving it new meaning...

Otherwise all Baptists that I met would openly insult and defy anything that is Catholic, they are like muslims to me, no difference.
