Prior to watching this video I was questioning my manhood when shooting 357mag in my LCR! Target practice with .38 and carrying with .38+p is fine with me!!
Didn't buy this for fun. It's an up close business handler. I say let it go KABOOM. Hurt my hand. If I'm in fear of my life I want that shit like thunder. I'm packin the .357 load
You don't have to worry too much about recoil when firing from your coat pocket or with the gun pressed into a torso. The 357 LCR is the perfection of the concept of "Saturday night special", but a quality firearm in a higher caliber.
I carry the 357 as a backup. It's pocket concealable and packs a wallop! I didn't find the recoil uncomfortable even after 50 rounds but it is definitely an attention-getter! I use Fiocchi 125 JHP rounds and this little gun handles them very well plus is this thing is extremely accurate...what you see is what you get! Price is about $500.
It’s great of you to be completely honest and say how you really feel. I saw another video, two stockier guys had some struggle, the skinny guy seemed fine with 357. That’s how it goes I guess.
Many thanks for watching and commenting. I am completely honest about my reviews and not afraid to admit that shooting hot .357 loads in this lightweight snub nose pistol are painful. I prefer 38 special +p ammo .
Your a great shot! No matter revolver or semi auto. I was watching how you were shooting good job man. You have great trigger awareness of break (if that makes sense).
I have the LCR in 38 special. It's a nice little pocket rocket. Great for summer carry. I have a GP100 for 357magnum fun. I experimented with bigger calibers in pocket sized semiauto pistols and didn't like the recoil. Little guns with powerful ammo try to jump out of my hand. It didn't hurt, it's just the delay in follow up shots.
I am picking one up in a couple days & look forward to reporting back on it. I also have a Colt King Cobra in a 2" and that does a great job with 38+P, and it has some punch with 357...I imagine this one will be a bit more of a handful in magnum form. Nice review.
Sir, thank you for watching and commenting. You are correct that the LCR will have much more felt recoil than the colt. However, it’s weight is an advantage when using as a concealed carry revolver. Once again, thanks for commenting. I hope you will subscribe to the channel.
As always, your work is excellent, your analysis spot on regarding what I want to know, how does it perform, how does it feel. Thanks for another great review.
The problem isn't the caliber, the real problem with the lcr is the grip (is a little short, leaving the pinky finger mid-air thus allowing excessive movement and perceived recoil), if ruger add a little bit more room for the pinky finger that revolver will be perfect. *Note to trolls and fanboys:* just in case, I love revolvers and I love rugers, in fact I own a sp-101 2" 357 and gp-100 6" 357. What I expressed was JMHO.
I agree. They should've done something different with the .357's grip. I still love the weapon and I don't see myself ever carrying anything else for concealed carry. I will say this, the more you shoot it, the better you get. The first time I carried my LCR to the range, my shot group was all over the damn place. One of the range safety officers recommended 38 specials for the range, but I prefer to train with what I'll be using in a life threatening situation. Needless to say, my shot group is tighter than a nun's pussy now, so I'm satisfied.
Hey wait when I was shot I looked at the guy and said hahaha that felt like a snub nose shot be a man and get a 4 inch barrel so I took his wallet just to teach him a lesson not to carry a snub
Owned an LCR in 38 special. Was a decent gun, thought not something I'd want to put more than 50 rds through in a session. I can't imagine it being fun in 357.
+Murphy82nd - Eh... You don't really feel the difference when it's on your hip, but it actually does help with recoil. Even shooting .38SPL JHP +Ps is fairly soft.

It is obvious that Ron has shot a lot of 357 mag. That was cool after his fifth shot and he pulled the trigger the sixth time there was no dip like there would be with most all 357 shooters.
Have had mine for many years and find it to be a great EDC as well as a fine shooter at the range. As a double action only, the Ruger to me seems to be best to just pull through the trigger vs. any staging like in a S&W. .357 are not fun as you said, however it is doable and I make sure from time to time I shoot .357 instead of the .38 or .38 +P just to stay familiar with firing those powerful rounds. Thanks for the quick and thorough review.

I love mine , although I do not use 357 for social work , I value accuracy more than the added power so I stoke it up with 38 +P SJHP! Very good accuracy and sufficient Power
I doubt I'll feel the recoil in a SD situation. My LCR .357 is loaded with full house magnums for something I hope it won't be needed for. It's a BUG a most of the time....sometimes it is primary.
Thanks for your perspective! I get what you're saying. And believe folks need to practice to gain a level of proficiency that will allow them to make combat effective hits under stress. Few people will practice with their defensive ammo. While the flight/ fear survival response will likely cancel out the feel of the .357 recoil, can they hit the target when they're shooting a round they don;t practice with> My experience teaching suggests the answer is no. When stress testing students with shot timers, most people shooting the .357 loads often miss the target because of anticipation of recoil, muzzle flip, felt recoil and muzzle flash ... The one exception to the "all of the LCR's have great triggers" statement is the LCR-22. The trigger isn't bad but depending on which one you get they can be pretty heavy. Mine is probably around 12 pounds if I remember correctly. This is still within spec according to Ruger. Most double action .22's have heavy triggers because the main spring has to be heavy enough to set off the rimfire rounds.
This gun is made for up close social work. I fire maybe 200 rounds a year with mine, just enough to in practice-it's not a fun gun to shoot. I fire around 1000 rounds a year with my GP 100 .357 mag Match Champion. Nothing but fun.
I have a review of the LC9 on the channel. I love Ruger revolvers and long guns but (IMHO) they totally missed the boat on the LC9. Trigger is terrible. There are many better options for slim frame 9mm pistols. Again just my opinion. Thanks for commenting.
I like your channel but I am surprised at the end of the video you said that you liked the lcr 357. It sure didn't look like it. I am not a troll and do not write negative comments. I watch you tube firearm videos more than regular tv and I am a huge fan of firearm channels and learn so much. I am a 50 year old firearm lover and not a hater at all . I have shot this gun and it was a miserable experience.
a legit question i have is: what is the benefit of getting the .357 variant? Out of a short barrel like that, is there any big benefit of using .357 defensive loads as apposed to .38? I hear .357 loads are basically .38 +p+, so is there any benefit? I'm looking for a revolver, but highly considering the 686 revolver. I've already got the best carry gun, so i'm not wanting to carry it, just to practice with it. Thanks for the info!
P.S. The practice i want to do is quick reloads with speed loaders, would you say it's better to get a carry revolver for that? Would a full sized revolver be harder to reload quickly as apposed to a carry revolver? Again, i'm not looking to carry this, maybe on occasion, but my current carry system is my primary choice. I carry a glock 17 with 18 rounds of Federal HSTs and a TLR-1s 300 lumen flashlight.
One of the major things is that the .357 weights a little more so when using .38 the recoil isn't as much. plus it is set up for .357 so you cant shoot both rounds. Plus another thing is that with revolvers not all of them are rated for .38 +p so you get the .357 because it can handle +p loads. This is the only reason for .357
TheTyrial86 Well i already knew that bit of information, but the question i have is: What are the advantages of using .357 cartridges in a short barreled revolver? If people use .38 +p rounds, and a .357 is a .38 +p+, then why would .357s not be okay? I'm just confused on the way people think.
Gotcha I'm sorry, the ammunition has to be made for snubbies to really matter the rounds are barrel length specific interms of velocity. .357 is still better because of the amount of powder you can fit in the cartridges and you're right some people just don't make sense sometimes, because the .357 out of snub still transfers more energy then the .38 +p+.
yeah that's what i'm trying to figure out. Some say "Don't bother with the .357 variant because it'll provide no better balistics", but i think i like the option of all high powered loads. Well anyways, thanks for the info!
Ron adjusts his support hand grip after every shot. Do the .357 magnum loads really bounce in your hand that much that you need to readjust or is that just some quirk of Ron's?
James, I normally practice with 38 special ammunition. And for EDC I find the Spear Gold Dot + P short barrel JHP ammo accurate and recoil friendly. Some people love to practice and carry 357 ammo out of a gun like this. And that’s certainly a good option for anyone who wants to go that way. For me, the 38 special + P feels right. Thank you for watching and commenting. All the best and stay safe!
I've watched ballistic videos using 357 mag compared to 38+ p. This guns barrel isn't long enough to get magnum performance. The 38+ p does better ballistics
I think for most people the 38 special +P is a solid option. Unless I am shooting a full size steel frame gun a 38 special makes sense. Thanks for watching and commenting. I hope you will subscribe.
Personally my reasoning is, why limit myself to the capability of the LCR. Sure I might only fire a dozen magnums for the life of it, but if all I shoot is .38, I guarantee the magnum version of the LCR will last longer, be more durable. I can't imagine the 38+p version is lacking durability or longevity, but the magnum is stronger.
+eric van tassell The revolver is very light! The .357 rounds are painful for me to shoot. I like Speer Gold Dot HPs for short barrel revolvers. Plenty powerful enough and manageable for recoil.
Excellent choice. Corbon makes some excellent defensive ammo. Thanks for watching and commenting. Hope you'll subscribe and share the channel with family and friends!
Anyone that says it doesn't hurt after putting 10-15 rounds of .357 magnums down range with the LCR is full of shit. Just thought I'd throw that out there. Great review.
+Vault Boy Brotherhood of steel - You're not looking at it in the right light. It's clearly an added benefit! Even if you don't hit the intruder, He's going to be blind and deaf!
I'd also state I frankly don't get the point of this gun in 357 mag. My understanding with 357 magnum was that you really needed a 4" barrel or longer to get the real gains from the increased power. In a snubnose a hot 38 special +P likely isn't giving up much if anything and it's still more controllable.
I still carry 357 magnum much rather have hand hurt than dying at the hands of an attacker. Besides once adrenaline kicks in you won't feel it. Carry 358 practice 38 special
I like the 4 inch Barrel so when I ride my horse in circles and shoot it up in the air I would look like a real cowboy especially on trick or treat night for Halloween. I hate it when those kids get in my way and ruin my owboy costume so every once in a while I shoot at their feet to make them dance like in the movies. If I saw another cowboy costume I challenge them to a duo shootout I always win cuz of my real gun and their lame costumes only have toy guns so I got it in the bag the body bag they carry them out in
I bought that gun and took it to the range next day. I was given couple hundred rounds of super hot loads in exchange for helping move. I couldn't wait to shoot the shit out of it . Its a proven fact free ammo shoots better and is 3 times more fun to shoot. I shot 15 rounds and called it quits. The recoil was so bad I couldn't hit jack. Got rid of the gun. My next CCW will be SR9 compact!
John, thanks so much for commenting. There is nothing wrong with the 357 Magnum. For me though shooting it out of a small lightweight package like the LCR is not enjoyable. And therefore I found most people don’t practice with it very much at all. And as far as who is “man enough“ to use a specific tool, I am not someone who cares about that. What I care about is the ability of the user of whatever tool they have to effectively and safely deploy it and get combat effective hits if they’re in a fight. It’s on target or what matter most. If the 357 magnum works for you then by all means use it! It’s a solid defensive cartridge with a good record of performance. Thanks again for watching and commenting. I hope your subscribe to the channel.

The .357 version is a good one to own and use.
was your grip less firm than usual because of whatever injury the ACE bandage was applied for?
+eric van tassell The revolver is very light! The .357 rounds are painful for me to shoot. I like Speer Gold Dot HPs for short barrel revolvers. Plenty powerful enough and manageable for recoil.
Are there any sort of after market grips?
I prefer with the 38 version.
Me to... some folks love the .357 in small guns. But it's not for me. Shooting .357 rounds in a full size steel frame gun is great.
More revolvers!
I have one, and they kick hard in 357, 38 is ok
Its not soft shooting. It kicks like a mule with 357.
Yes, not fun to shoot in .357. Thanks for commenting and watching. Hope you subscribe.
Corbon dpx
Excellent choice. Corbon makes some excellent defensive ammo.

how reliable/durable is it?
Anyone that says it doesn't hurt after putting 10-15 rounds of .357 magnums down range with the LCR is full of shit. Just thought I'd throw that out there. Great review.
its so fucking loud too. I cant imagine using it inside my apartment for home defense.
+Vault Boy Brotherhood of steel - You're not looking at it in the right light. It's clearly an added benefit! Even if you don't hit the intruder, He's going to be blind and deaf!
I wanna see this guy shoot a 500 magnum
No thanks! I'm not trying to impress anyone... big calibers work better for me in a rifle platform not in a pistol. Thanks for commenting.
Sckarekrow i686 357 has more power with a two and a half inch barrel than my model 19 shooting 38 with a 4 inch barrel by far
I still carry 357 magnum much rather have hand hurt than dying at the hands of an attacker. Besides once adrenaline kicks in you won't feel it. Carry 358 practice 38 special
Nothing wrong with that approach!
If I saw another cowboy costume I challenge them to a duo shootout I always win cuz of my real gun and their lame costumes only have toy guns so I got it in the bag the body bag they carry them out in
Whats wrong with your fingers. They move after every shot.
Major physical handicap with my left hand and arm. Thus my grip needs readjusting.
A joy to carry not to shoot
I couldn't agree more!
ron should learn how to count, it could save his life.
My edc the lcr .357. Love this gun. Ps: it’s a mans gun. Owww? Seriously

@@GunsGearOnTargetTrainingLLC it was a tongue in cheek comment. I do carry the .357 and train with it a lot. As I edc it I want to be proficient with it. And yes I am subscribed. But no more owwws ok😉😂
If i get shot by this gun, I hope they have 357 magnum in it, because it will be weak.
