How often did you change the trans fluid ? I just got a 99 Camry with 231k miles as a secondary daily commuter and it runs smooth . I want to keep it that way too
When doing these jobs its great to have a lift. it took me 12 hrs to complete a similar job. Also you sometimes need to reset the TCM to delete previous errors for later models camry even 2003.
Currently have a stuck axle and stuck rack, rack bolts wont budge a mm, soaking them overnight in pb blaster. Hoping they will go then Its time to drop the sub frame. Any advise?
Jesse Urban using 2 prybars instead of just 1 to pop out the axle from the trans has always worked for me. Unless you are referring to the hub side? If you really need to, you can take the rack out with the cradle. It's just messy. Ps fluid usually goes all over the place when you take off the lines. Like it never stops dripping from everything.
The axle seems to be stuck in the transmission, the first side popped easy. I’ve try the 2 pry bars trick. Gonna try again in the morning. I hit the rack bolts again with some more pb blaster and letting me soak up some. I’d hate to have to pull the rack down with the frame, may have to though, I figure if I do I’ll use the impact gun to break them bolts lose on the ground. I have a feeling these bolts been on since 2000, figure I’ll anti seize them just Incase I have to ever remove the rack agai . I want to say thanks for the video, Im not a mechanic by all means but I’ll sure do my best to get this sucker going again. Most I’ve done was breaks and a starter, this will be a rewarding achievement.
People seem to have a hard time with that one axle. I have always gotten them out. Choiceless. More leverage ups the odds, and an even consistant jerking motion with 2 prybars works for me. you could try to turn the axle 90 degrees or something once in a while just to move the clip around in there too, maybe that will help. Most people take the rack out with the cradle. I just don't like the mess.

I have a 2000 Toyota Camry LE. Transmission replaced, did fine for 3 weeks, then began slipping. You could never feel it go into gear, reverse or drive. I knew something wasnt right. Automatic transmission. Transmission was very soft, no response.

Hi, Do you think is it possible that to remove transmission with 4 regular jack stands or just jack front wheel? My 07 corolla has rear main seal leak, I want fix it in my parking garage, plus I don't have a shop car lift.
That the way I did it. Those CV axles took me forever to get out. Then AutoZone sold me 6 cyl axle cv's, instead of 4 cyl., what a nightmare. He forgot to mention the diff. gets Dextrol 3, and the Trans. Tech IV.
tony tite I don't believe that is your problem, just because it is so rare for that to happen, have heard of it though, and if it is, you need to get the old one out carefully with a chisel, hammer, and probably a vise grip to grab it after you bent the crap out of it, or pound it sideways, and pull it out. Then you need to get a new core plug, put some #2 permatex non hardening pliable gasket sealant on it, and pound it in with a core plug, seal installer.
Hi I have a 2001 Camry and my transmission doesn’t go forward only reverse so I’m looking to change it and my mechanic tells me that there’s two types of transmission for my car type A which would cost me less to fix or type u that would cost me a lot more to fix how can I check what type of transmission do I have thank you

You need to remove the transmission, or the engine.
I was hoping I wouldn't have to remove the transmission completely.
Same thing for 2.2 ‘96?
Probably. I did my listing by fitment of transmission. It will only fit those years, so yours will probably have some differences.

It will be a direct bolt in but you may need a 99 ECM. 00/01 was a split year for ECMs

The car goes on jack stands, and jack the cradle down. Then drop transmission enough to get at the flywheel, and seal.
Thank you, I also think about jack engine up a little bit, to get tiny more clearance.
where is the transmission located
It's a big thing bolted to the engine.
I believe it's a little west of St. Paul.

Pull the engine and transmission as an assembly through the top. Much easier, faster, no need for am alignment.
