  • James Harden and the Philadelphia 76ers stole Game 1 from the Boston Celtics in a 119-115 win as (+10) underdogs with Joel Embiid sidelined. Harden led the way for Philly, tying his career playoff high with 45 points that included the go-ahead three-pointer with eight seconds remaining. Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe discuss the biggest reason the Sixers pulled off the upset.

We easily played good enough to win but our Achilles heel is that we switch everything and just allow teams to get whatever match up they want and it’s usually on Horford and then we leave him on an island. Teams don’t necessarily have to play switch d to get switched on for one, and two you’re still only hyper focusing on your own team. The Sixers just played without Embiid and despite the win, he still proved he’s the mvp by how y’all started the game - it was straight line drives to the hole every time without any paint protection, and so Doc threw on a zone. Then Tatum started raining 3s. The paint points, big lead, and good shooting to start off the game that y’all had does not exist with Embiid.

@IamGrandMagus literally nobody thought he could pull this off, hence the lack of expectations, if you can find the masses that said he was gonna do this and he still came thru I'd be willing to let his past be his past. But dude has literally made a career out of coming up short in the postseason, one great game isn't gonna make me forget about the choke artist he was for the rest of his career when people were actually expecting these types of performances outta him and he never delivered. I'm not saying it was a bad game I'm just saying I still don't trust him in the playoffs.

    • @jackrosado746

@IamGrandMagus also just cuz eyes are on you doesn't mean they're expecting anything out of you, my statement still stands. Next game when the same eyes are on him except actually expecting this type of performance outta him will he deliver? That's been the question his whole career.

@@jackrosado746 if he didnt do this next game it wouldnt mean hes "washed" which is exactly what people like you will say. All that matters is he delivered in a game that Embiid couldnt play so that he could lead his team to victory and thats all that matters in this situation. If he plays off or bad next game its just how basketball works, but he also might get another 30+ points along with joel embiid. And if maxey can get anywhere near 30 pts a game in this series too its going to be an insane series for the celtics.

James is like Russ. He gotta be that number 1 guy to be the most effective version of himself. I’m not saying that it contributes towards more wins but you definitively get a top 5 player and potential mvp. That’s why when Harden becomes that role player, people tend to forget about him and say he fell off when he never did….he’s just being a professional by showing that he’s coach-able and willing to do whatever it takes to improve any team’s situation. His leadership as grown in bunches as well.

This might be the most impressive performance by James Harden to date?! His post up game, big 3's he made, facilitated for his teammates, put the 76ers on his back. Maxey stepped up his game too. To win a game in which Tatum went off, on the road, changed the outlook of this series.

I absolutely love browns game but it's just not a comparison. Brown is productive but your role players can replace that production. Your role players can't replace the level of difficult shot-making that Tatum brings.
