You should do a Colombian Rum video. They have some great rums like Parce, Dictador and Hechicerra

Your pronunciation is fine given that DUSA is an acronym for Destilerias Unidas S.A. S.A. just stands for Sociedad Anónima, designation for a corporate structure in Spanish and French heritage countries, kinda like our Ltd. So, DUSA just means United Distilleries S.A.

The only Venezuelan rum I've ever had is Cacique and that was over 20 years ago. Can't remember what it was like but was dead cheap as I bought it on Isla Margarita which is a duty free Venezuelan island.

I did some research on where Pampero is distilled and according to their website it is at La Miel (which seems to be owned primarily by DUSA, but google maps shows a corporate office attributed to Diageo). I read elsewhere that it is a mix of 3 distillates, column and pot still, which seems to be a standard Venezuelan thing, but also very much a DUSA thing. Angostura of Trinidad is also formerly of Venezuela so there does seem to be a strong rum tradition there all of its own.
I also had a look at my own bottle of Santa Teresa 1796 and they very heavily emphasize the solera part and don't talk about their aged rum. My own feeling is that regular Santa Teresa 1796 is very young rum heavy as it's pretty harsh on the throat. And this is after dosage (they say on their website that they use no more than half a spoon of sugar per bottle).

Hi, wondering if you knew anything about the Venezuelan rum that was used in an old rum from Australia. Frigate OP rum was only 17% Aussie rum and the rest was from Venezuela. It was imported by Johnny walker. The new version of frigate OP is all Aussie and tastes like dettol!
The closest taste I have found is pampero but as you mentioned it is distilled in different localities and even tastes different from those locations. The old frigate rum was probably 1950s to 1980s. It was pretty harsh but the flavour was great. Cheers

@@StevetheBarmanUK I found out that diageo where supplying the spirit for bottling up until 2000. And the rum I find most similar but not exact is pampero anejo especial dark rum with a yellow label. Don’t seem to get much else here in oz. Thanks

You can get the Diplomatico Pot Still rum as a separate bottle (as you can the Kettle and the Column). I really, really enjoyed the Pot Still one. It's not got the intensity of Hampden or anything, but it's like the Reserva with more flavour and depth. It doesn't have the length of good Jamaican Pot Stills either, so it is inherently lighter, but definitely worth a shot IMHO. It's also just over the £50 mark.

I keep eyeing up those Diplo Pot Still bottles. For some reason, never do it. Will do soon though.
