I this is the first time my bird has had eggs and I am new to this.lovely to come across your channel, I have learned so much already. So far there are 3eggs she covers them up every time she lays is that ok . Thanks
How old is your birds? if they are too young many times they will show nesting behaviors and will also build a nest but they will also cover up the eggs frequently. Also if you continue to provide nesting material they will continue to build the nest. So once the nest is pretty full take out the rest of the materials so they stop building.
birdnerd thanks for replying. My female is over two years old and the mail is one. I have stopped giving nesting and in the last two days she sits covering the eggs when she gets off and then goes back. I am hoping that all goes well,thanks again for your help.
birdnerd . Hi thanks for your reply . Unfortunately one of the eggs hatched and fell out of the nest,and the the hen stopped sitting. I waited a day and removed the eggs as I was concerned they were getting cold, The ones that I candled I kept warm one has started to hatch. I put them back with the hen, I don’t know what else to do. Any idea’s?
@@margaretnugent9872 Did the hen take back the chick that was hatching? I would recommend trusting the parents they will do a good job. If the chicks ended up dying or not hatching. Let them try again and give them space and they will do a great job.
My gouldians have hatched two days ago. I’ve made egg food but parents won’t eat it. Eating mainly millet and seed. I have vitamins in water and have mixed moulting and conditioning food with seed. Worried babies aren’t getting what they need. They are feeding babies. When I peek it looks like there are two babies. Should I do something else?
Sounds like you are doing a great job. I would keep giving them little amounts of egg food even though the parents don't eat it right now. After the chicks are a couple days old the food intake will increase for the chicks and that is when the parents will be more willing to try the egg food and feed it to the young.
@@birdnerd Thanks so much for your reply. No one here in South Carolina knows anything about it. You are a lifeline for this unexpectant breeder. They are 6 days old best we can tell. There are 6 babies a week old tomorrow. Very noisy!! still not eating egg food. I have been offering it but still not interested. They are growing and parents are friendly with me peeking in the bamboo nest from outside the cage. (They were very comfortable with us being close to them when we purchased them.) Just not sure how long they will all fit in the bamboo nest. I have seen both mom and dad in the nest regurgitating to feed them. If it gets too crowded should I try to move them to a differed nest box?
@@SCSbjones That's great news. Keep the egg food in there while the chicks are being fed by the parents in hopes that they will eat it. Sounds like you have a great pair that is very attentive to their young. Don't change out their nest because the parents may abandon the nest. Let them stay in there they will be fine. Good luck with them.

I tried, a blue back hen white breast lilac face paired with a green back purple breast orange face cock yet none of the 3 clutches got a blue back siblings. Another question, I paired up blue back hen with a blue cock is it possible to have their blue back babies? Please help me. Thanks.
birdnerd none lol. Ive had doves in with them before but the doves never ate egg food aswell. Im thinking of trying different veggies and see if it helps.

My birds wont touch egg food. What should i do to make them interested in it?
Try sprinkling one of their favorite seeds or treats on top of the egg food. Try that for several days and see if they take to it.
birdnerd ive been mixing it with their seeds but they pick the seeds only lol.... I’ll keep trying
