Have you tried to use canned air for cleaning the holes? I find it more safe and easy than copper wick, when working with small electronics. Just heat up the tin with the hot air station (small tip) remove the hot air, and blow the canned air straight into the hole. Wick had got me into some bad luck with loosing some pads, but no bad cases with canned air.
