Question Time Stamps for Quick Reference:
    0:00 - Introduction
    1. 1:11 [Grieving the death of the unsaved] How do we biblically grieve the death of a loved one who wasn't saved? Since we don't believe in purgatory, and therefore we don't pray for deceased people, what is an appropriate (but still loving) response in this situation? And how can we kindly correct those who make a well-meaning offer to pray for a dead loved one without being harsh?
    2. 8:20 [Plato & Christianity?] What does Plato have to do with Christianity? I recently read that Plato had as much influence on Christianity as the Bible.
    3. 11:29 [Does Christianity impede critical thinking?] Is/was Christianity guilty of impeding critical thinking and exploring the mysteries of the cosmos and physics of the natural world? How would you advise a believer involved in both worlds?
    4. 17:06 [Does God have a sense of humor?] Deep theological and philosophical question: Does God have a sense of humor?
    5. 21:18 [Should I be rebaptized?] Are there biblical examples of people being baptized more than once? I was baptized LDS but don't consider it to be a legitimate baptism. I want to be rebaptized now that I found Christ. Is this ok?
    6. 26:16 [About ‘gods’ of other religions] In Numbers 33:3-4, YHWH never denies other ‘gods.’ Are we then to understand gods of other religions (Allah, Zeus, etc.) as very much real ‘gods,’ albeit demons?
    7. 32:00 [Does God really forget sins? Should we?] After forgiveness, all sin is wiped clean. Can a person then claim to have never taken part in certain sin in his past? If the Lord remembers our sin no more, why should we?
    8. 35:17 [Is it biblical to mandate traditions?] The church I grew up in had extrabiblical "traditions" (women wear dresses, men are clean shaven, etc.), and justified this using Proverbs 22: 28 & Matthew 18: 18. Is it biblical to mandate adherence to tradition?
    9. 40:38 [Answering skeptics’ claims online] I've been trying to reach skeptics online, but they've told me belief in God is irrational and that I must believe rape & torture are o.k. since I'm a Christian. They also call God evil, a murderer, and a megalomaniac, and say Christians are wasting their time believing in "fairytales." How should I respond to these claims, and how can I tell when a debate is not even going to be fruitful?
    10. 45:35 [Should we pray against “spirits” of sins?] Is it Biblical to pray against spirits (e.g., the "spirit of" offense, laziness, depression, confusion, etc.)? What is a "Jezebel spirit," and is it real?
    11. 51:15 [Perpetual virginity of Mary?] Did Mary remain a virgin? I've heard that the brothers of Jesus that are mentioned were actually his cousins, and that if she had other sons, John wouldn't have needed to care for her (John 19:26).
    12. 58:16 [Defining persecution] Can you please define "persecution" and speak to whether these pastors imprisoned or being penalized for defying public health orders are in fact being persecuted?
    13. 1:00:35 [Can secular songs be turned into worship?] What are your thoughts on using secular music as a form of worship music where half of the lyrics are secular words and the other half is supposedly Jesus’ words?
    14. 1:02:34 [Do real Christians stop sinning?] Does 1 John 3:4-10 mean your aren’t a real Christian if you still struggle with sin? At face value that’s how it sounds, but then nobody would qualify for Grace - so I’m confused.
    15. 1:11:30 [Why did God command death?] My 12 year old daughter asked me after reading Exodus 32: 28 “If God gives us free will to worship Him, why did He have Moses command the Levites to kill those 3,000 people who chose not to?”
    16. 1:14:29 [Did God make individuals & not just mankind?] Even though I know people (as a whole) were made by God, because God made Adam, how do I know that I/people (individually) are also made by God, especially when they are conceived out of sin?
    17. 1:17:03 [How to rekindle passion for God] How would you counsel someone who feels their passion for the Lord dying? (Not praying anymore, not reading the Bible, etc.)
    18. 1:19:35 [Inerrancy & preservation of Scripture] How do you bring together an inerrancy and preservation to modern translations which say verses have been added and taken away (end of Mark, Acts 8: 37)?
    19. 1:21:53 [Reliability of Scripture when Jesus was alone] How do we know parts of the New Testament are reliable that narrate Jesus when He is alone without witnesses? (Ex: Being tempted in the wilderness or His prayer in the garden of Gethsemane.)
    20. 1:23:29 [Leviticus, uncleanness, and the Temple] What happens to people who become unclean (impure) in Leviticus? When they’re unclean for the whole day, are they just not allowed in the Temple, or do bad, negative things happen to them as well?

On God having a sense of humor - I remember someone saying that when Jesus told Zacheus, "Today *salvation* has come to your home', it may have been a pun on Jesus' name (as the Aramaic Yeshua / Hebrew Joshua means 'Yahweh is salvation" / "Yahweh saves"). I plan to use this as justification for Dad-jokes if my family ever objects to them ;-)

(Yeshua comes into the Greek as Iesus which we transliterate into English as "Jesus"). Jesus had visited Zacchaeus' home, so when Jesus says, "Today *salvation* has come to your home" it could be a play on "Today *Jesus* has come to your home" - assuming Jesus was originally speaking in Aramaic / Hebrew.

Thanks Mike, my grandmother died last year and I had very little hope that she repented of her animosity towards God before her death. Her life was Hellish, both in what was done to her and the way she treated others leading to burnt bridges and ongoing poison (I think there were unaddressed issues with mental health as well). I struggled with anger towards God and the idea that she was suffering in hell after much of her life being misery and torment and isolation. It was one of multiple reasons I decided to reject God in my life for most of 2020. Praise the Lord I am back with my first love, and that the spirit of God could remain with me even despite my blasphemies of God, seeing Jehovah as the villain for so long until I was humbled and feeling so empty. Your ministry has been a huge influence in strengthening my faith and apologetics. Appreciate you big time, man! And appreciate your willingness to answer the needed and difficult questions from a biblical standpoint. God bless you and keep you faithful and unspotted from the world. Praying for you to continue in a victorious life with Christ!

Me too, I blamed God for how poorly I was treated in the church, then I realized I was in a cult. Oops... I was lazy and did not do my research and relied on what they told me, that was on me not God, now I worry if God can forgive me for blaming him. I have been ready Job and feel even worse as Job refused to curse God but I didn't and it wasn't his fault for my choices. Best to follow Christ and no man.

@@rosiej.1473 God can and does forgive you. Also Job was such a righteous man that God himself was bragging about him, we definitely aren't all at that level of faith and that's ok. We say Lord we believe, but help our unbelief. Lord we are saved, help us live in the newness of life through your spirit and the death and resurrection of your Son Jesus Christ, casting off the old self and the bondage to sin and the systems that enslaved us in being under law rather than under Grace through faith. I'll be praying for you Rosie, God's forgiveness is not limited and can reach even those who hated him and called him evil at one point. I read someone’s thoughts on this a long time ago saying that it meant you can’t sin without it pricking you’re conscience. You can’t sin and not care. I think there is a place for deliverance, but to blame all this other stuff on demons when we’re just not able to stop our sin, that’s a problem.

I know this is an old video. This first question got to me, although I have seen many. My 1st born passed in my arms in 2021 from cancer, he could no longer talk & he shook his head admitting he did believe in God & Jesus was His Son, as I repeated John 3:16. He shed a tear that I wiped dry & he was gone. I believe he was saved. By brother passed in 2022, I dont believe he was saved, but only he & God know, he was gay, I hope he repented. He would not talk to me about it. He was curious as to why I did not fear death. I said I feared what was left behind, but I believed I knew where I was going because I repent, am forgiven & believe I am saved. I was holding his hand when he passed. In 2023, my 2nd born was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, I tried to talk to him about Jesus, he said, mom, I did this to myself, I believe & me & God are good, he passed 3 months later in my arms. My prayer is that they are okay, that they had their own personal encounter with God. I wonder, but pray they are with the Lord. Prayer, the Bible, & support give me comfort.
Sorry for long post, that will probably never be seen since it is so old, but felt i needed to post for some reason. 😊🕊🙏 God Bless.

    • @DonieleEdwards

The issue could be because the dominant view that we have been taught of Monotheism is that if the other gods are real beings that they are rivals to Yahweh. But we know that Yahweh is the only Creator. Heiser's view is that they are real but in rebellion to Yahweh. He is the Most High Almighty God and He is species unique. Ontologically none of the others are or can ever be like Him. He is above all and there is none like Him. He is called God of God's for a reason in my opinion and these gods being real in no way diminishes His majesty as He is the only Uncreated Being that exist. Hope this helps.

My thoughts on the whole "Do christians stop sinning?" question is that it is a matter of intention and mindset. Are you saying you're a christian and desiring to pursue God and Christ and grow and change, but are stumbling and have things you struggle with and want to stop? Then I'd say you're a christian. However if you're somebody who deliberately sins, has no remorse, no desire to change, doesn't think about their motivations or behavior. Somebody who has no motivation to pursue God, then I'd say that person isn't a christian. Even if they claim to be.

Hi Mike, I have a follow-up question on being rebaptized. I was baptized at 16 as a Christian believer. After I got married we moved to salt lake City and I was converted together with my husband and baptized into the LDS church. A few years later, we Read some history, and long story short we left the lds church. I have renounced everything that has to do with the LDS Church. And have found a good Christian church once again and have been learning and growing as a believer.
My question is since I have been baptized once before, then rebaptized into the LDS church, do I need to be rebaptized again? I hope this makes sense. Thanks!

I have a beef about using secular songs as worship, with that in mind, church has been doing this for centuries! How do I reconcile this? Music of the past I have no recollection of (the old bar songs of England for example) but current songs I do (for example the perverted hallelujah song). If the song is going to remind me of perversion, I cannot praise the Lord with this in mind. Does that make sense? Worship music is for pleasing God and not myself, not my flesh.
The mega church mentality of trying to reach the unchurched is the opposite approach to how the apostles preached the gospel. These goals are more about these false teachers who want thousands who follow them and send them money. They get rich, the gospel never gets preached.
So, I don't trust any worship leader attempting to redeem worldly music to please the crowd either, to me they are just tickling the ears to keep them there so that the money comes in.

Nicely done, Mike! I've read and followed Heiser's work for long enough to say that I think his view and yours overlap in several key areas: First, you both would affirm that behind the so-called "gods" of the ancient world and pantheons of antiquity, there stands actually real, intelligent, spiritual beings who are opposed to God. Second, you would both agree that these spiritually evil beings are of a completely different nature than God. Yahweh is uncreated, eternal, and has no rival in any sense whatsoever. These elohim or demons are created, fallen, and finite beings and (while still very powerful) can't even begin to compare to God.
Seems to me that the real difference you highlighted in your brief answer here is really about precisely who these beings are and where they fall along the "pecking order" of the spiritual world. If you haven't read Heiser's book The Unseen Realm or his follow-up Reversing Hermon, I'd recommend digesting them as you prepare to do a future video on this topic. You are always so well prepared for your videos and reading those will give you a much clearer picture of Heiser's position so that you'll be prepared to critique it directly if you still end up holding a different view.
Thanks so much for your work and ministry! As a fellow youth pastor, I really appreciate it!

Any of those actions would have led to the Israelites getting the ark back. . . . . But instead God chose to inflict them all with hemorrhoids. Whatever village they stored the ark in would suddenly all come down with hemorrhoids. . . . Why do you think God chose that particular form of punishment? 29:00 Just to clarify Michael Heiser's view: elohim is the word used for spiritual beings in the OT. They are not ontologically different from angels and demons, but rather angels and demons are elohim, as is God; however, the Lord is a species unique elohim because he is the creator of all others. So all spiritual beings are elohim, but God is King Elohim, which seems to lineup with Christian theology. God created angels, but all of them are spiritual, non-material beings.

For question number 12, I would really encourage you to consider if the health orders a just, and furthermore what is the importance of church at all. There is much more research I've done that I am throughly convinced that it's all evil but that would take much longer explain.
Is it just to mandate that people allow their family members to die alone? If a family member wanted to risk being exposed and even quarantine afterwards how could an "official" mandate that someone was to die alone. And on top of that mandate that the surviving family members not gather together to encourage and comfort one another. To me this is one of the greatest evils. I lost my cousins exactly 4 days before the "15 days to slow the spread" (notice how the goal post continues to move and it does not reflect the data if you look at the numbers yourself). He was 40 years old (non-smoker and relatively healthy) and was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. He was doing well and last year it suddenly grew more and he was in the hospital for 2 weeks before passing. By God's goodness we were able to be with him, and many of my family members ( including my 76 year old grandmother) visited and weren't wearing masks or social distancing. None of us got sick and even his later packed funeral, with no one getting sick. If he could not see his 3 kids before passing and those kids could not be around family for support after is just so evil, I don't understand why Christian are so easily convinced that people in power are doing what's in the best interests of the public. No one is being forced to attend church, and suspecting pastors are in the wrong, when they are looking to God, but thinking public health officials are in the right when they are being lead by their gods of "science" is a big mistake (especially once you investigate or test their claims, look us the Tampa Bay 'super spreader event' and you will see they are just false prophets).
Secondly, if church can take a break for a pandemic, then it can always take a break and is really not that important, or especially not as important as abortion clinics who never had to close.

Not for JUST our sins as Christian’s, but also for the whole world which is why limited atonement is false. I’m not a Calvinist, but I don’t think “also for the whole world” is enough to stake “Limited atonement is false” on. It’s not sufficient enough to be sound logically. The (macro)evolutionary narrative is the intellectual fruit of an unbiblical Worldview & Epistemology. But Objective Truth ,logical coherence cannot be ontologically justified from such pre-suppositions.This is because Truth, like laws of logic & mathematics is an abstract (supernatural) object.Obviously any theory that cannot justify the existence of objective truth & reality has no intellectual warrant to be considered objectively true or real.Because only the bible can logically justify the existence of Objective Truth, atheism could only be true if the bible is!Hows that for a paradox! Concerning the "Jezebel spirit", I studied apologetics at Liberty University and while I'm tempted to brandish my credentials that, of course, isn't the best way to sawy the opinion of the people I've thought to make the case against the alleged "Spirit of Jezebel"
Like you pointed out there is sparse evidence for such a spirit at best and none at worst. There is some slight irritation in that two of those people are my boss and my girlfriend. The irritation is in that they're both Christians with my girlfriend having well developed Bible memorization but her exegesis leaves something to be desired. She's pretty brught and studied pschology and works with children as a counselor. I myself am quite well read in the realm of psychology and while I personally feel that my insights amd intuitions are well founded when we borach the subject, she mentions her credentials sometimes as a wG pf saying her degree makes it so that she knows better than I do about particular thing. I find it better to concede to her, afrer some mild pushback, to avoid a silly argument or tension. When we talk about Bublical things, she disregards my education becasue she feels well read Biblically and knows, here and there, some Greek and Hebrew etymology.
I've tried to be as gentle as I can in addressing that issue. Im not sure what else to do. I beleive I've thought well about it and tried a few different approaches. What else can I do. Maybe I'm missing something. If you see this Mike, I'd appreciate any insight lol

    Mike,
I always appreciate things you share brother.
I fully agree with everything you said about it not being Biblical to mandate traditions.
But I have to push back on what the example you used about proverbs. You used an example about raising a child in the way, but based on what evidence should we just dismiss something in the Bible because we didn't see it happen in our walk?
As a parent myself I would be more inclined to take accountability and say I didn't bring them up in "the way" or misunderstood what "the way" was as the Bible intended before I would dismiss the verse as just a higher probability scenario.
Remember that all scripture is God breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
Even the second verse of proverbs states that the proverbs are for wisdom AND instruction. Along with everything else between verses 2-7.
It's not just wisdom and wisdom literature. There is instruction in there as well, and we should trust in God for what result/fruit will come for following the instruction.
Love the 20 question videos you do. Please don't stop!

I would like to ask why the bible uses "judge" and not "punish". Does that mean the world that haven't been saved, they stand in trial for their sins, are they all 100% condemned, or are they just being judged and determined? Good example 1 Corinthians 6:2 "Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters?"
What does that mean exactly, and why use the word "judge" and not "punish"? I believe being clothed with Jesus' righteousness guarantees salvation and those who are not clothes are in "danger of hellfire".

Pastor Mike, if the Law of Moses was only for the Jews before Christ, why are people still believing that they can keep Moses's precept, of divorce and remarriage, in Deuteronomy 24:1-4?

Your View on the gods are basically the same as Heiser's view. They show up for the worship and of course are created by God. You may call them Fallen Angels or Demons but the Bible calls them sons of God, Princes of the Nations or Watchers. Same thing...

Hey Mike, love your ministry. For real. Quick thought on the “spirit of Jezebel” or spirit of laziness. Spirit can be a demon or an action or attribute of our own spirit. Can have other applications as well.
God has not given us the “spirit of fear”. Which to me means there can be a spirit of fear. Deaf and dumb spirits. Unclean, evil and lying spirits. All Biblical. God even uses them for His own purposes at times.
So I think someone can have the spirit of rebellion or laziness but it simply means their own spirit has those tendencies from their free will choice.i also believe that demons can make a human manifest those tendencies as well but the demon won’t have a name just an assignment. I have seen demons respond (leave) to being called out for their specific manifestations. Jesus name has absolute power.
Saying someone has the spirit of Jezebel could mean that the persons actions align with the actions of Jezebel in the Bible. Those actions could be of the own sinful tendencies or from possession from a demon. Semantics I suppose.
    God bless!

Jezebel is spiritual system that clings to authority to manipulate things.Mostly working against the prophetic purpose of God. It was also seen at work in the New Testament with Herodias as she instructed the daughter to call for the head of john the Baptist, who Jesus said to the people, if you can receive it Elijah has come already, who was in the personage of John the Baptist. Hence the spiritual system (Jezebel spirit) called for the head of john. Because she didn't get Elijah's when she threatened to cut it off after the show down on mount carmel... just my 2cents. Life is spiritual...

    inre: the Plato question
No. Plato's teachings are the antithesis of Biblical teachings on all major questions. For example, Plato believed that mankind is essentially a slave by nature, and he also was a staunch teacher of the caste system, in which different laws apply to different classes of people. Moses, on the other hand, was unique in the ancient world; as a law code it was a legal framework for equality before the law, and taught that the man and woman are made in the image of God. Plato is also, in my view, the ultimate source of the persistence of the idea of the collectivization of property. In Moses, property is divided by lot amongst the thousands upon thousands of families, and it is illegal to move the boundaries, or for the family to permanently lose their inheritance. Even slavery in almost every case in the Law is a temporary condition.
Karl R. Popper wrote an excellent book on this topic called The Open Society and Its Enemies, Under the Spell of Plato.

I always thought the verse where Jesus says "Woman, he is your son" is proof that Mary ISN'T the mother of God as some Catholics believe. I felt that's why he said it. "Woman" He's not saying "Mother" He said "Woman". There's another verse that correlates to this, when they come to get Jesus and say "Jesus, your mother and bothers and sisters are here to visit you." And He responds "Who is my mother? Who are my brothers and sisters? Those who do the will of God are my brothers and sisters and mothers."

I had bell notifications on just so I could ask a question but I missed it ☹️
Q: What is legalism? What is being legalistic? Can you be legalistic by trying not to be legalistic?

    • @andrealynn776
      @andrealynn776 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Legalism is following law strictly to follow law, as if it is by works that saves you (which is not how you are saved)
A good example of being legalistic is one that Pastor Winger actually gave in this video, when he was referring to husbands and wives who don’t have sexual relationships other than to produce children. They are trying to follow whatever law they perceived from the Bible (or wherever they perceived this from)
When in fact God gave us that pleasure as a blessing for two people (man and woman) becoming one in the eyes of God (marriage-sex)
I can say by my own examples that yes, you can be legalistic by trying not to be legalistic. I stopped enjoying friendships, family, and romantic pursuits by trying to please God by following law, due to fear of punishment (part of my problem was I was a baby Christian still reading the Old Testament)
Once I read the gospel (the New Testament, more specifically John-Acts-Romans) God gave me more discernment on what was sin vs. righteousness and that Jesus Christ was given to us by God to shed blood for all those sins and unrighteousness that we will continue to do because we will fail God till the day we die in our physical bodies.
Every day we are to follow the Lord Christ, and if we pray for God to give us guidance we can look through ALL scripture , old and New Testament, for examples on how we should live our lives as Christ.
The biggest thing I tell people is, if you don’t understand why you’re doing it, don’t do it. Cause there are reasons we are to be following “law” and I say law in quotations because when Jesus died on the cross we became no longer bound to law. But we can still follow by example, examples God and the living version of God provided.

I am grateful for your responses, I think in regards to the critical thinking question your answer could have also referenced critical thinking within scripture. I think Christianity in the western practice does impede critical thinking about any thing that does not follow tradition or accepted dogma. This is where I think the person asking the question was trying to go. I don't think people fess up to how stifling the history of Christian practice hasbeen. Q and A such as this is a perfect example. Look back over the past 200 years and where can you see Q and A and critical thought being as present. In my mind CS Lewis and yourself are a rarity when it comes to critical thought regarding world phenomenon and scripture.

It struck me as you were expounding on people blaming God when someone died and they were grieving; I feel like God tells me, No one knows the relationship another has with God, we can't.If we feel we do then that borders on judging.

The marriage bed is NOT defiled ma'am/sir. The person was simply saying that it must have been hard for.Joseph because men/women have sexual desires that need to be satisfied by their wives/ husbands. So if she never had sex, then he has alot of discipline, especially since they were married.

Jesus’ brothers were “not putting faith in him” at this time. It was not until after his resurrection that some became disciples and Christians. Thus, he entrusted his mother to a believer rather than his unbelieving brothers so that her spiritual as well as her physical needs could be looked after.
John 7:5 His brothers were, in fact, not exercising faith in him.

I want to believe Jesus has another final moment with the lost at death, but there is no scripture to support this. I get this thought from the interpretation of 1 Peter that after Jesus died on the cross, He went to hades to preach the gospel to everyone who died before Christ, a final chance to choose Christ, but this also is probably a huge misinterpretation.
How can we know the mind of God? Why would He choose some to be vessels of glory and others vessels of destruction? How is the best way to pray for the lost, because we are all in need of His great mercy to be saved.

Any church who doesn't properly exegesis the Bible is either ignorant and has no place in teaching or is attempting to control people. Either way they are dangerous and should be rebuked.

With regards to taking secular music and rewriting it into Christian music - Charles Wesley did that for many of his hymns - hymns that are now in many hymn books today.
