    running a Stihl 94R and a Husqvarna 525L atm... love em both and was not aware of the 535LST. Needing a big boy trimmer for some larger cleanup jobs that i do periodically and was looking at the 3020T from Echo. Glad I have a Husqvarna option in the bigger engine now as I absolutely love my Husqvarna dealer. Quality video with some great info!

    Great video and on thoughts from experience. We average two 2+ acre properties a day my operation is small. My nephew runs the trimmer while I'm on the ZT. I'm still working my way up, so we have two 122LK and one 130L. Still box store residential trimmers. But I started with an old Troy built trimmer with a 40v electric Ryobi as back up(was a gift).

    *I used most of the 4 mix and smaller 2 stroke stihl trimmers and from my experience the newer stihl 4 mix trimmers (91, 111, 131) are more reliable than the older 90, 100, 130, etc because the newer stihls have the auto tune carbs. I used to always have to replace something on my 90, 130, etc and my KM 131 has ran for a year without a hiccup. All I've done to it is recently replaced the spark plug, fuel filter and I washed the air filter. I use this trimmer to run all 9 of my attachments and it never misses a beat, I have an hour/ tachometer on this trimmer that I installed on it when I 1st bought this trimmer and I put on average 30 hours per week on this unit and the hour meter is currently showing 1,320 total runtime hours on this unit. Still running great with no valve adjustment and it doesn't even smoke, I use echo red armor oil and have since this thing was new.*

  • @livewithnick
    @livewithnick 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I adjust my carbs when needed just like I used to my chainsaws (use all auto tune saws now) but I still think my 2620T has more power than my 525LST. Doesn’t mean I don’t love it. I do. I use it as much as the 2620T because it is a little lighter but Husqvarna post their weight w/o the head and shield. Echo post with both and without the cutting head so it’s not as big of a difference as it seems. My 3020T is a beast and so is my 535LS. Granted I usually pay somebody to weedeat while I’m mowing but my helper’s favorite is the 3020T. The 535 LST weighs 12.13 w/o cutting equipment. The 3020T weighs 13.9 with all cutting equipment and 12.3 pounds without head but with the guard. I used to run only Stihl equipment but now they don’t compare to Husqvarna and Echo in my opinion.

    Well after listening to everything you have to say about string trims, I just came home with a 525LST. The decision was between the Husky (local dealer), Maruyama BL27L (45min drive), and Echo 2620 (65min drive). The Husky won because of your endorsement, the Echo has a cable shaft instead of solid steel, and the Maruyama is a completely new name to me, and was a little more money and weight. The five year commercial warranty really makes a confident statement though, so I'll always wonder. Anyway, I'm going to attach an hour meter and then go make the world more beautiful. Thanks for your honest, thorough and passionate reviews.

      I’ve noticed that the Redmax High Torque is geared different than the LST. The LST is rated at 5,500 RPM at the head, while the 260TS is rated at 6,261 RPM at the head. They also have different power eating 525LST - 1.34 HP vs 260TS - 1.27 HP. Also produce max torque at different RPMs 525LST - 6,000RPM vs 260TS - 7,000RPM. So they’re not so identical as one might think.

I’m caught between getting the 524LK and buying the trimmer attachments and pole saw attachment or buying a 525HE4 2 stroke designated pole trimmer. I’m just using for my house and a few of the neighbors. So do you think the 524LK is going to hold up over time or should I just get a designated trimmer and same with a pole saw?

    Could you compare stihls 4mix trimmer to a 2 stroke husky. I’m interested if you could measure the rpm speed of the trimmer head and see if there’s a big difference in performance. I had a husky 128ld and it seems like it trimmers fine grass better then my stihl km131r. I always wondered since it does rev as high and if the gearing in that head plays a part in that or if there’s so other design difference that does.

    • @exterminator1
      @exterminator1  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      128 trimmers are pretty strong. An engine with valves turns slower than a 2 stroke.so 2 strokes win speed period.however 4 strokes have a constant power band of torque.2 strokes can't maintain speed under stress as good as a properly geared 4 stroke. Why they put torque heads on some models.males them competer better with 4 strokes and still lighter and less maintenance.

      @@exterminator1 I did some searching and the 128ld has a max of 8,000 rpm and the km131r is a max of 9,500rpm. So in this case the 4 stroke revs higher but what they do not advertise is the trimmer head rpm. What I'm wondering is if the gearing in the head is different that even if the stihl has a higher max rpm that the head is geared lower. That is what it feels like to me when
      I'm using the two. The only way for me to find out is to get a rpm meter or rip apart the gear box and start counting teeth.

      LST

    • @BigBear--
      @BigBear-- 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol, that’s what I just ordered today. But I’ll tell you my confusion , it’s the effective maximum head (output shaft) speed. If even the 535LST hits a bit over 8000 RPM, as do much lower powered trimmers. Even the brother, Redmax 260TS hits like 6,261 RPM. The 525LST has one of the slowest head RPM I’ve seen at 5,500 RPM Max (granted there might be something out there with slower, I just haven’t noticed it).
      This slightly concerns me with cutting regular thin blade grass. I know that I can always change the gearbox on it if it bothers me, and gear it back up to an LS or maybe even higher. And there’s other mods I can do to increase head speed…so I’m not super worried, but that’s why I had the dilemma, and wanted a bit more info from someone that had or used both.

Even worse, is the accelerator pump makes it so if you blip the throttle too quickly trying to finesse them, they flood out. I assume they need an accelerator pump, but it's just a quirk about the machine. If I have any real fine work to do, I still grab our 329L. Love the 131 power though.

      @@exterminator1 yeah I've read about that too. I don't know just exactly HOW bad it really is. I've heard most failures come from running the strings too long. The engine doesn't have enough power to really pull that much load, and it isn't running at optimum RPM. Then the fan isn't blowing enough air around it to cool itself and they overheat and melts the gear. It's a chintzy design - no doubt about it. I don't know of a better way to do it though. If that part was steel or aluminum it'd cost 50-60 dollars to make at least with all the gear teeth and the cam grind. Sintered metal would be worse than plastic - it'd abruptly shatter and fill the engine with metal chunks. The plastic camshaft is 13 dollars and looks relatively easy to replace if it does fail. Some of these 4-mixes look like they've been through a war and are still kicking, I doubt I'll use mine that much or that hard.
