    🛑ATTENTION: PLEASE understand I am a SELF TAUGHT musician but that does NOT mean that I DO NOT UNDERSTAND what the difference between a major and a minor is. I DO UNDERSTAND THE DIFFERENCE. One sounds "happy" one sounds "sad". I, as a SELF TAUGHT musician, simply do not know which name correlates with which sound. I KNOW WHATS RIGHT BY SOUND. I PLAY BY EAR. I LEARN BY EAR. I do not know by musical lingo. Or by reading the stuff. So when I see "Em" I am not aware this means "E Minor" Which is why I selected the incorrect key of the song. I am well aware of what is right and wrong SOUND WISE. So the logic here still applies. The same way a person who is learning english knows the difference between "left and right" but can confused which word goes with which direction...the same applies here. I know the difference. I simply do not know the proper lingo. I know it by sound. All I do not know is what the proper word for whichever one is. It's as simple as that. PLEASE STOP TELLING ME I DON'T KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT. I do. I have been making music for 21 years. I know it well. I just don't know the language. But I know the sound. That is all that matters. I know what scales are, I know what chords are, I know what keys are, I know what sharps and flats are...I know everything. I am a pianist. I just simply do not read music so I do not know whether or not major was the "happy sounding" or minor was. That is it. Please. Stop.

      What matters is that you are a true musician and what you record sounds great. I’ve been in the Music Business for 40+ years. I’ve worked with artists who could read and were amazing artists. I’ve worked with artists who couldn’t read a note and were geniuses.
      I’ve worked with artists who could read and sounded horrendous. And I’ve worked with artists who couldn’t read and ... bless their hearts... I’m trying to be compassionate... they should consider other career options.
      I’ve worked artists and had students who may not have any or a small amount of note reading ability but more times than not, I have stopped a student and said, “What was that voicing you played”? I had a young man who played in church for years. He didn’t read but he played some ridiculously complex stuff. He knew all of his chords and if he didn’t know what to call it, he still played it and he’s amazing. It’s God given talent. A gift. You are a phenomenal young guy. I teach at a place with people who have more degrees than a thermometer. But if you ask them to look at a lead sheet or improvise on a classical piece, they simply can’t do it. Don’t worry about these boneheads who say stuff about not reading. You are still delivering The goods. I wish I could sing like you and hear the harmonies you sing. I did a lot of background singing on sessions many, many years ago. I sounded good but I didn’t hear vocal harmonies the way you do. And you’re a quality engineer and producer who creates in a fast and practical manner. You’re doing a great thing with your channel. I wish you much success. You deserve it.

      IAMLXGEND i just think that u dont get that people really aim for that robotic sound and that it really is being liked. As long as the tuned vocals arent “of key” i think there is no wrong way of using it. There are just people that aim for the more natural sound and some that aim for the more robotic/ autotune style.

Travis autotune is his creative choice but it’s lazy and it’s not being used in a way SINGERS should be using them which is the entire point of this video. It’s not clickbait. Thanks.

    "Em" means E minor, E major would be just "E" unless this site that you used has diffrent notation. I guess that's just a notation problem (or maybe, as you say later in the video, because the song has some notes that comes from the minor key it was enough for the site to detect the key as minor).
    Honestly tho if some beginners are reading this I wouldn't recommand using a site for finding the key either train your hear or just jam around over the instrumental with a piano or something to find the notes that are in the key :) You can then just learn your keys which isn't hard as long I you stick to major and minor.
    Anyway your video is great quality, and even if I didn't learn anything I enjoyed watching it :) and really good voice btw. keep up the good work !
    Edit : My bad I just read your comment talking about that :/ I don't delete this com just in case it could be useful to a beginner but my bad I should have read the comment section before.

    • @IAMLXGEND
      @IAMLXGEND  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most beginners I speak with have zero knowledge on music theory and have no clue how to find a note, play around on a piano or how to train their ears. I speak with hundreds of people who ask me about this, I have already told them all of this about training their ears and such, they have no clue what I am talking about even after going into great detail. Some people just will not be able to get it. So I recommend they go to the site instead of not knowing the key of their song they’re trying to record and not able to set the key until they learn music theory.
      I’ve had people literally press the key on the piano, it’s the exact same note they are singing and they still tell me they can’t find the key of the song. Not everyone has the ears or ability to be able to figure that stuff out on themselves. For them, using the site is perfectly fine and recommended.
      Thank you for the compliment on the video and thank you for reading the comments.

    • @antograph225
      @antograph225 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@IAMLXGEND That's true some people have an hard time with that. But that's just a matter of training.
      Don't get me wrong there are some people who really have like a "handicap" (idk if that's the right word I'm not very good with english) but that's actually so rare. People who think they can't do it tho is not rare at all. I used to think I was tone deaf before realizing I just had to train.
      So yeah that is pretty cool to show this site for people who just want to have fun and use auto-tune (as it's the purpose of the video) :)
      The only thing i was trying to say is that if someone plans on taking music more seriously he should really start right now training his hear because if he uses a site for that chances are he will never be able to do it without it. So that's why I said i would not recommand that. (and this apply to way more than just finding the key of a song)
      Btw if anyone reading this is like "sad" because he doesn't have "prefect pitch/perfect ear" (once again idk how to say it in english) I have a good news : with trainning almost anyone on this planet can find the key of a song by listening to it, it can be hard but it's possible. I study music and finding the key of the song is something we have to do even for our tests and exams. I can tell you not a single one of us has "prefect pitch/perfect ear" and we had no idea it was even possible before university but now we can do it because we had teacher teaching us how to do so. :)
      Once again good video, keep making them, and I'll keep watching them. :)
      And I know that's not really the subject of the video so sorry about that

    • @IAMLXGEND

      If you’re recording both on the same track there is no way to do that. It’s either on or it’s off. So you have to record singing on one track and rapping on a Separate one.

    Man your comments hint at a pragmatism that is essential for making great art and It encouraged me. Like you, I’ve made almost the entirety of my first full length album on GarageBand using a focusrite interface, 250 dollar microphone, and a m audio midi keyboard. From the instrumentation, vocal production, to the mixing, you can achieve a professional sound on that software for desk top. I have tracks on tracks to prove it. The only reason why I would aspire for Logic and use it for the final recording of instruments is because of the plethora of plugins available GarageBand doesn’t have. What people don’t realize is that when you are forced to work with simple tools, craftsmanship should take over to become resourceful and creative with sounds. Would love to collaborate with you in the future. Could talk about this all day.

    You’re using all this pro level equipment and you’re recording in GarageBand? Why?

    • @IAMLXGEND
      @IAMLXGEND  6 ปีที่แล้ว +91

      I'm hardly using pro level equipment lol. The equipment I use is like between entry level and professional. But not pro level at all. I use Garageband because it gets the job done, it's simply, easy, and free. I had pro-tools years ago. Entirely too complicated to achieve very simple things. Also, I do not have $1000 to pay for that program. I have Logic. But never used it because as of right now, I don't need to. I can get everything I need done with Garageband just fine. Why get expensive software that's just going to complicate things if I can record radio quality songs in Garageband already with ease? If something complicates my creative process, I'm not going to create well. So I use what works for me. And for the last 8 years, that's been Garageband.

    • @Mattrixx
      @Mattrixx 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      IAMLXGEND sort of agree with you but at the same time don’t 🤔 I get that you may not need logic Bc you might be able to the same thing on GarageBand but if anything I would say using the more profesional software would make it easier. Will it be harder at first? Perhaps it could be but only because you haven’t learned how. Just how you had to learn for GarageBand you have to learn for logic. And I’m pretty sure you know this just still don’t understand why you’re using GarageBand and not logic (when I click on this video I actually thought you probably used logic but for this specific video you just happen to use GarageBand. But after reading this comment i guess you use GarageBand) I use Fl Studio and rn I could tell you that GarageBand would be easier for a beginner but at the end of the day Fl studio would be faster for me because it wouldn’t limit me from anything I want to do and it would be the quicker way to do things after you learn how to use it.

    • @IAMLXGEND
      @IAMLXGEND  6 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Mattrixx nope. I’ve used more advance professional programs like pro tools for 5 years before ever even touching Garageband. It was entirely too confusing and never got easier. Ever. It’s just too much to do to get to simple tasks. Does this mean I’ll never use them? No. Eventually I will. But for now? Garageband is and has always been easier for me in my experience with both advance programs and this program. I get the best results. And if I can achieve the same results in Garageband as I do in Logic then why would I even need to touch Logic. There is no use. For the sake of saying I record in a “professional” program? Lol. I don’t care about all that. I care about what my music sounds like. And if it sounds the same I don’t see a reason to switch lol. If it ain’t broke, dont fix it. I use it because it only was it dirt simple to learn, it’s the workflow is also dirt simple. I’ve seen how other programs work. It’s too many steps.

    • @Ajonra
      @Ajonra 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@IAMLXGENDI don't want to go back and forth. It really doesnt have any affect on me what you use I was just curious. For a home studio, you have an audio interface, mic, one of the most expensive Macbook pros on the market. Its not entry level. You are comfortable with what you get from garageband and thats ok. I'm not trying to challenge it. You are not achieving the same results that would be in logic though. The pitch correction alone would be much better in logic pro X. You havent hit a ceiling in garageband yet and thats cool. Use what works. When you do decide to switch it'll be quite easy for you if you've mastered GB. Interface is virtually the same.

    • @Mattrixx
      @Mattrixx 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      IAMLXGEND yeah i definitely support you in what you gotta say if it works for you why change right. But still, it’s not even just the fact that’s it’s a “professional” program there’s just things like actually having a mixer tab instead of the simple volume knobs on GarageBand and also when coming to plugins, I’ve played with GarageBand a few times for a while now, but does it support any 3rd party plug ins? Are you able to mix and master the same way as in logic/fl studio. And I agree with the pro tools as well you really don’t need that expensive of a program when you can do the same with these it’s just when coming to GarageBand I find it limited to what It could do. But just to clear it out I’m not hating or anything because I support the fact that it’s the “player not the game” but i see you’ve succeeded with what you’re doing so keep going at it 💪🏼🔥

    • @NeilWall
      @NeilWall 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Is the website right or wrong? You make a great point that a melody corrected to minor when it should be major (or vice versa) will sound off on a few notes. The root of the scale being identified is a great start. How should we identify the tonality? Should we just swap maj/min if it sounds off with the backing?

    • @IAMLXGEND
      @IAMLXGEND  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Neil Wall the website is right. Because when I tuned it to what it told me, It corrected my vocals to what they were supposed to be doing. If anything was wrong, it may be me. I know the difference sound wise between Majors and Minors. But since I am self taught I still confuse which one is named which. I always forget if the “happy” sounding chords are majors or minors or the “sad” sounding chords are majors or minors. There are parts in this song where I sing both, so the autotune can not correct to both as you can only set the value to one or the other.
      In any case, if the program fiddles around with the vocals and it sounds incorrect then yes, just switch it to major, or minor whichever it’s not set on.

    • @NeilWall
      @NeilWall 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@IAMLXGEND Thanks. Major Happy..... I guess if a tracks switches midway you can always duplicate it into 2 tracks and use major correction on one and minor on the other, cutting out the sections that don't apply to that tonality on each track. • @IAMLXGEND

      Neil Wall you cant do that in Garageband unfortunately. You’re only able to set the key of the entire project, not a single track. But I guess that’s what comes with a free program. Also, thank you! I’m definitely gonna keep on going. I love what I do and love helping people.

    So if your voice has a higher pitch would you put the pitch correction higher or lower to adjust it to the song?

      It’s not about your voice. It’s about the beat. That’s why you check they key of the beat.

    Hey I'd love to know how to auto correct just an isolated vocal pitch in a previously recorded vocal line!!

    • @IAMLXGEND
      @IAMLXGEND  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you’re using just Garageband then you’ll have to cut that isolated vocal and paste it on its own track. Then turn the pitch correction up on that track. Otherwise you can use plugins like wavestune to correct only specific lines in a single track without needing to separate it to another track.

      What type of auto tune apps do u think are the best that are free ?

    • @IAMLXGEND
      @IAMLXGEND  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      None. Unless you’re talking about for iOS. You can get voloco. But for a computer: none. The only one that’s free is the one in GarageBand.

    • @IAMLXGEND
      @IAMLXGEND  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t make background music for artists. No. I do however produce and license beats to other artists. Yes. If you’re trying to make a song.
