A lot of people I play with want to play tracker follow even when tracker is on the left and I find it to be super ineffective. It could just be me as the tracker but it feels like I move too early they hit it back on 2 and then I have to respect that, or I move too late and they can adjust hitting it out of my reach to the servers initial right, since they had to scoot left. I could totally be missing something but it just seems so much riskier/harder to execute than server follow or just right goes.
Hey Samuel, especially with a right-handed hitter running the server follow is actually really common. Not to say that one is better than the other, but both schemes have their benefits and drawbacks. For example, from the tracker left position a team might be more likey to attack on two like you mentioned and running down a long ball might be easier. However, the distance between the left and right handed wrap shots is shorter for the tracker and the distance to the front of the net is shorter for the server. In the server follow version the left-handed wrap poses a serious threat, but the serving defender has the ability to read the play for a longer duration as most of the contacts happen within their eyesight. All in all, the important thing is to understand your hitter and their tendencies. Which angles and trajectories are they hitting and which of the schemes would be better served for defending those?
Contacting the ball on a body block counts as a touch, yes. When you set up funnel defense you either want cut off angles and send/force the first touch to the defender or body the ball straight up and send the second touch to the defender. Hope this helps!
No hit zone (NHZ for short) is a barrier that extends 1.5 feet from the rim of the net. Players in the Competitor and Premier divisions at sanctioned tournaments (expert in non-sanctioned) must stay outside the NHZ when attacking the ball to reduce the number of angles they can hit.
