Great job and perseverance! Are you putting on some kind of sealant cause my experience is bare steel will begin rusting in no time! Enjoyed the video.
Not at this time as I keep polishing it to make it shine. Thought about spraying clear on it but I think it would yellow eventually, so just polish and wax for now. Thank you for watching! 😊👍🏻
I also try to save the original parts too. But if I’m not mistaking this lid is not original. The thing over looked is plain carbon steel without a plating will rust in short order. I suggest send out for chrome plating or purchase a replacement lid at half the cost and effort. Sometimes the results are not worth the effort vs other options.😊 I’ve been restoring Corvettes for years and know where and where not to put the effort.😊Time and money well spent would be a stainless steel or chrome lid once you see rust forming after all that effort.😊
Sometimes half the fun of a project is just to see what you can accomplish not whether it was worth the effort! I would guess that this was somewhat the case with this project.
Great job 👍 I too enjoy projects like this on a cold winter New York day . I put the tunes on (the 70’s ) and go at it. .
You must have lots of people coming 2 you for advice ❤

You need the chrome one!!!
Give steel wool a try. Especially after letting the stripper soak.

I use the Rustoleum Aircraft Paint remover. This is the best but be careful using it, it will burn your skin.
Think MEDIA BLASTING... 😉
I take parts to my local NAPA machine shop and they media blast. $40 would have covered this but the finished product looks great as always.
