  • In this episode, I try to explain my choice of route through Angola and why I am taking this route - and then I set off for a monster ride: 640 kilometers to Saurimo. That should be possible, unless you get crazy lines at the petrol stations and get stopped by the cops...

I noticed some comments where viewers got bored during the map talk portion of this video. Not Me! With the advent of computers in the 80s, then internet mapping systems, and now GPS mapping there are very few people under 60 y/o (at least here in the states) that can actually read a paper road map to figure out how to get somewhere. Society has become so reliant on GPS/digital systems that paper maps have almost went the way of the dinosaur. Noraly teaches us so many things, some more subtle that others, like as simple as the importance of map reading. Thank You Noraly for keeping this practice alive. Peace! ❤❤❤

Hello Noraly, that red yummy fruit with tiny black seeds is a dragon fruit.
Great artwork! At 7:55 is the wall painting of Great Queen Nzinga of Ndongo and Matamba. She is a lengend in Angola and Africa. She fought fiercefully against the Portuguese slave capturing armies. She had a good military training and as queen she demonstrated her tactical brilliance on many battle fields.

Indeed " nothing special to see " ? ??? Riding preferences vary of course but that road appeared to me as a pleasant touring affair. Even Noraly modified her opinion in a more positive direction by saying at the last that it was actually " nice" , in spite of its 650km of terrain which did vary from plateau, with landslide , to lower plains . Maybe ten or twenty years from now it will be remembered with more fondness. A day of riding straight flat roads still beats any day of not riding , anywhere , and this video episode was again memorable .

As far as I know, Angola is oil producing country, hence cheap fuel costs. Zambia is a landlocked country, and fuel comes in by road or rail, so fuel will be more expensive there. Safe travels Noraly and Alaska!

I am very grateful to TH-cam because sometime a few days ago a video of you Norally was shown to me. I watched it and was enchanted. Yes, I would have wanted to do that too, forty years ago when I was your age. It's a bit too late now, but I've been travelling with you ever since, now in Africa and retroactively with your first trip from India to the Netherlands. And I will watch all the videos and explore the world with you. You're already doing a great job. I would probably never have had your patience and kindness, so it's good that I didn't have to cross the borders of strictly totalitarian states. Although I did grow up in such a state. I appreciate freedom all the more, as long as it still exists. Maybe our paths will cross somewhere at some point. Thank you for the wonderful hours in front of my big screen...

I only started following your content last year when you were in Nigeria, and I'm glad i discovered your channel it's been like therapy to me. Looking forward to journey across Zambia my country. I think the main reason why Zambia and Angola don't have a major border is because the civil war in Angola which prevented both countries from trading. However as at now Zambia and Angola have recently signed a MOU for the lobito corridor project funded by the United states and Europe which will open a major border and railway line between Zambia and Angola.

Hi . I really enjoy your adventures. I live in Mbala, Zambia. I would highly recommend that you do the waterfalls tour in Luapula Province and Northern Province. You start at Mansa then move into Mbareshi and then Mporokoso making your way to Kasama and then onto Mbala where we have the Kalambo Falls which is twice the hight of the Victoria Falls. I know your followers will love all the falls. You could do a mini series within a series. From Mbala you can easily enter into Tanzania. It is also very easy to get to Lake Tanganyika from Mbala. My wife and I will be starting a 11 000 km ride to South Africa going down through Botswana and coming back through Namibia so we may miss you if you decide to come our way. Well enjoy. Will keep watching!!

Just amazing video, your content quality grew with leaps and bounds since your early days (long time viewer). I do absolutely understand your planning and choices. But I have to say cutting out the Death Acre in the south west, Foz de kunene, Iona, o man you are missing out on legendary stuff. Having completed death acre 3 times and going for the 4th this December it is the absolute highlight of my bike riding career. Please come back and reconsider just that, takes us 13 days on average to do a loop. It is exactly as you say- desolate, we plan very carefully for fuel and water and take no vehicles and max 3 riders. Bikes only. But the south for me is the real Angola. Amazing people living in an unforgiving place.

The difference between Angola and Nigeria (the major oil producing countries in Africa) is like night and day.Even the gas stations in rural Angola are more modern and organized than the ones in Nigeria's main cities! The checkpoints in Nigeria looked very intimidating.Quite post apocalyptic if you ask me.

    • @1papatudo

I was a bit disappointed you didn’t cross the south from Namibia, it’s the most beautiful part of the country! You could also have done the jungle like you did in Cameron , but not on so roughly roads. Anyhow, next time you better cross the border from Namibia and go all the way up through Lubango, Huambo , Benguela and Kuanza sul , it’s just marvellous! Thanks for showing your adventures and be safe on your futures travels .
