Great explanations of the difference between chips and pitches. I can always chip well but when I tried to pitch I sent it flying to the right probably not turning my body?
Your videos are simply incredible. The teaching skills with the clear check points are amazing. Benefitted from these and a bunch of your other videos. Keep up the good work Chris. Thanks!!
Thanks Cr ..great stuff .. I'm not a feel player .. so I have to have numbers for everything. Exact distances even on the shortest chips or pitches .. then I use the clock system to match 3 different distances with a gravity move to match.
In a previous video, you advised that for chip shots, the ball should be placed just right of the sternum (handle ahead of the club head). In this one, it’s the center of the sternum… which is the better bet?
Top class instruction, great to see the inter action between you and your Father also when instructing your wife. No wonder your videos are so popular.
Great tips that really work you played all your shots from the mown grass any chance of some tips on playing from the colours of grass that generally catch the ball if you just run through the green
Rough or high grass around the green is where I lose the most strokes in a round. Can’t find the right speed not knowing if the grass will slow down my 60 degrees or not. Any advise ?
The Deeper, or Heavier the Grass then there is more of a Reduction of Ball Speed, Spin, and Height of Flight relative to the Same Club from a clean Lie (think Fairway Lie) Experiment with using *LESS Loft* than Your 60°. This will Increase Ball Speed which will help your Carry onto the Green. Height and Spin are often Too Overrated in Greenside Approach Shots because the typical Recreational Player ISN'T Playing onto the 12 - 14 Green Speeds they see the Tour Pros playing onto, so the Recreational Player will get less Release and Roll Out than the Tour Player will.
Thanks Mike, yeah tough enough when the lie is good and level. Rough changes quite a bit, will change the flight and reduce the spin on the shots, but also make the ball leave the club face slower
On that "toe down" type chip, how to I explain to my mind that I *don't* turn on the back swing but I *do* coming through? 🙂 It strongly suspects that such action must lead to a "pull".
i am a low handicap player and I could not pitch without a lot of wrist hinge.Lots of instructors are against to hinge the wrist in pitching , the prefer a method a' la Jason Day.In my case it wouldnt work, I follow the method of Seve Ballesteros and Phil Mickelson
I use the putting stance but it depends on distance what swing I do either a half swing or full swing, over bunkers or ditch I tend to use a SW, flatter surfaces I would use a PW, same sort of swing technique seems to work for me, longer distance obviously change the club 9 or 8. I tend I open up the face with the SW especially over bunkers, again good video
Love your videos Chris, always something to take away and practice. Only disappointment from this one is you didn't wave the ducks through at 10 minutes 🦆🦆🦆
Not a silly questions at all. Plenty do pitch with that club, I just find a little extra loft helps me with the flight, but the technique would be the same with the PW
Yes, the all encompassing use of the word "Chip" tends to be more of a European thing based more on the "Total Distance of the Stroke" rather than the Proportions of Carry vs. Release and Roll Out. I've always used both Terms, because my Setups and Swing Motions are different for the two, just as Chris demonstrated.
You break the swing down in ways that others couldn't help me. thanks!
Thanks
Favorite video to come back to time to time. Sometimes reviewing the basics is the best
Shoutout to the old guy in the background @10:51 getting pissed at a bad pitch while the demonstration is going on.
I’m going to have to go and check that out now 🤣🤣
Hilarious
Loved the bonus shot. My normal chip was often hit too far and putter was sometimes hung up in fringe.
Thanks Steven
This guy is a really good coach.
Thanks Richard 🙏🏻
Holy smokes Chris - "keep the butt of the club moving" toward target - total game changer broh! thanks!
Great lesson Chris very well explained.
Good stuff Chris!
Great explanations of the difference between chips and pitches. I can always chip well but when I tried to pitch I sent it flying to the right probably not turning my body?
Really helpful. Thank you, Chris!
Well explained Chris!Great tip!
Thanks Chris. The bonus is especially helpful as I invariably take a putter from there and either over- or under-hit it
Yeah it’s a great shot to have in the bag
Great stuff Chris. Thank you
Excellent Chris 👍👍👍👍
Your videos are simply incredible. The teaching skills with the clear check points are amazing. Benefitted from these and a bunch of your other videos. Keep up the good work Chris. Thanks!!
Brilliant as always Chris. Do you use a hybrid for "chip putties"? I find them useful for stopping the ball picking up speed when it gets to the green
Thanks Cr ..great stuff .. I'm not a feel player .. so I have to have numbers for everything. Exact distances even on the shortest chips or pitches .. then I use the clock system to match 3 different distances with a gravity move to match.
Thats great!!! Only thing , I don’t see the beer cans in the bag lol
Thanks Chris 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Awesome, thanks
Very helpful
Great tips

Dunno who the guy was in the background when you were demonstrating the pitching, but I hope he watches this video 🤣🤣🤣
I haven’t noticed….. going to take a look now though 😁
@@ChrisRyanGolf you should, it summed up your video perfectly!
Nice vid! Would there be an adaptation to the pitch shot to make it one hop and stop?
I have M6 iron set. It came with a 49 degree Approach Wedge. Can it be used instead of a 9 iron.
Top class instruction, great to see the inter action between you and your Father also when instructing your wife. No wonder your videos are so popular.
Great tips that really work you played all your shots from the mown grass any chance of some tips on playing from the colours of grass that generally catch the ball if you just run through the green
Hey Keith, that sounds like a good video, I’ll look to do something on different lies soon 👊
Is it all 9 iron? thanks chris..

Very helpful, been struggling with this part loads! What happens when the lie isn’t quite as good, thicker rough, uneven surface, etc??
Thanks Mike, yeah tough enough when the lie is good and level. Rough changes quite a bit, will change the flight and reduce the spin on the shots, but also make the ball leave the club face slower

Awesome video but would also be super useful to have tips for these shots out of bad lies!
Another lesson Chris. When chipping I try ad have my sternum just ahead of the golf ball. Right or wrong? Thanks.
Yep I’d say that’s ideal 👊
Have you ever checked out the Cleveland smart sole 4 chipper or gap wedge?
I haven’t, experimented with wedges with wider soles though and does make things easier from certain situations
I use the putting stance but it depends on distance what swing I do either a half swing or full swing, over bunkers or ditch I tend to use a SW, flatter surfaces I would use a PW, same sort of swing technique seems to work for me, longer distance obviously change the club 9 or 8. Sounds perfect to me Paul 👊
Love your videos Chris, always something to take away and practice. Only disappointment from this one is you didn't wave the ducks through at 10 minutes 🦆🦆🦆
Hahahahah the guy in the background needs your tips 🤣 😂
Great vid. Stupid question time...why don't you pitch with your pitching wedge?!
Not a silly questions at all. Plenty do pitch with that club, I just find a little extra loft helps me with the flight, but the technique would be the same with the PW
Now even the former tour pros who commentate on golf are calling everything a ‘chip’. McGinley being the chief culprit.

Great video… also, great acting from the guy in the background (10:52)! It seems like he needs som help, Chris!
The pitch shot is the ones i keep shanking
I know it's the worst don't even say that word
The poor bloke in the back at 10:57 . Bahaha!
What club did u use?
The pitch was 52* and the shot at the end was 60*
@@ChrisRyanGolf thank you… that means i need to practice a lot of a lot and a lot of practice 😭😭
Ducks
Everytime I move in closer to the ball I hit the ball off the hosel
why don't u show us what the green looks like so we can see other side before you hit it....
sorry man too much info. as a coach limit yourself to two items to work on.
