    The reason why it is said to use windex and a toothbrush is because usually people have that already in their house hold have windex and a toothbrush, its just to save the hassle of going somewhere specifically for cleaning grip

    I suppose it depends how people treat their grip tape. Water damage or dirt has never been a problem for me though, so a new sheet is easier for me. Thanks for these uploads also, helped me clean bearings, i used to just use WD-40 and realised that it made dirt and dust actually stick to my bearings and clog up inside and ruin them.

    Thanks a ton this really helped me out! I hate having the grip of my brand new downhill deck covered in mud after a rain session. Really happy to find this.

    • @RatVision
      @RatVision  11 ปีที่แล้ว

      Spray the bottom of your deck with Spar Urethane spray. This will help to make the deck last longer by protecting it from water. The best thing to do is spray it before you put grip tape on. Put on at least 5 coats, which may be the whole can.

    • @stealthmermaid40
      @stealthmermaid40 11 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rat Vision - Skateboard Tech I skate the Loaded Tesseract which is actually sealed quite well. Not afraid to take it out in the rain at all. It has fiberglass and epoxy above the top ply and fiberglass, cork, and tons of epoxy on the bottom.

  • @RatVision
    @RatVision  12 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Yes, the nose and tail are always different. There are some brands that make a board where the nose and tail is the exact same size. Take a look at the graphic on the deck. The bottom of the graphic is the where the tail is. The nose is slightly longer and a little farther from the truck mounting holes. The deal is how the board feels, and how the nose feels when it's being kicked.

    Is that a question? If so, yes you will want to do this. You may not want to use a wire brush. The grit (sand like stuff) that you have on your grip tape is actually clear/white in color. What makes it yellow is the resin that holds the grit together. If you scratch the grit with a brush it will make the grip tape look a foggy and not so bright. In your case just use a lightly damp cloth to clean the grip.

  • @RatVision
    @RatVision  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    If the grip tape does get dull it is so minimal that you won't notice. By cleaning with a brass brush it removes whatever dirt or junk was in the grip tape that causes less grip than any little bit of dulling from the brush.

    How would i get gum off my griptape???

  • @RatVision
    @RatVision  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Good point. The truth is grip gum or belt sander cleaner is a tool all skaters should have on them like a skate tool. We don't need to spend money on skate tools when we all have wrenches in our homes and garages. Rubber keeps the grip tape clean and allows for it to provide traction longer.

    Just finished cleaning my skateboard and thought it might be worth adding my experience as a college student which wanted an easy solution.
    I used wet wipes earlier so when dry I used a toothbrush to remove the bits left from it.
    I didn’t have a lot of mud I guess but just putting some water, using the brush in circular motion, dabbing excess water with a cloth then blow drying ended me up with a clean board.

    Thanks for the comment. Decks are hardly sealed at all. Leave it outside at night and see how it is the next day. Even moisture in the air will ruin a deck fast. They have a very thin coating that is really there for looks. Yes not all grip tapes have holes in them. Most do now.

    Some people like to do the math and realize, "Hey... Why buy these tools when grip is cheaper?" Of course it's cheaper, but what you are buying are tools. Cleaning grip makes grip last longer, and what do you do if you get new grip tape dirty? Are you going to get a new sheet when you can clean it. That's the logic behind cleaning. It lasts longer and in the end saves money.

    Spray your deck before putting grip tape on with "spar urethane". You can also brush it on. This will help protect the deck from water. ONLY for a rain board will we recommend using a dry lubricant for bearings. Dry lubricants are PTFE (teflon), graphite, or silicone.

  • @RatVision
    @RatVision  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Lowes sells "belt sander cleaner", and Michael's would have crepe rubber. You can try another art supply store that deals with painting. Lowes always had it when I went. Home depot never did. The one seen in the video that has a flat wood stick handle was purchased at Lowes. It's by all the tools and sandpaper stuff.

  • @RatVision
    @RatVision  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is actually normal. You probably didn't notice it until after it slammed into the wall. Everything is fine, believe it or not. When you stand on your board everything is evened out. What happens is that your bushings are making the hanger (the axle) stick to one sick when you step off. You don't have to do anything.

  • @RatVision
    @RatVision  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    As you can see in the video the grip gum only works for surface dust and dirt. It does not work well getting deep in the grip tape. It only takes a few minutes to clean a deck. The grip gum will last for a ton of cleanings.

    Home Depot never had it when we went in looking for it. They might not sell it. Lows always had the one on a stick that we showed in the video. The big piece we got at a smaller local hardware store.

  • @RatVision
    @RatVision  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    It only looked that way in the video because he got it wet. In our video it looked better wet until we dried it. We've seen the video. The rubber does not work nearly as good wet. It just slides over the grip tape. In that video it was just the water that did the cleaning and what made it look clean.

  • @RatVision
    @RatVision  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    We get this comment at least 3 times a week. It's becuz people don't think about riding conditions, how long a deck might last someone, and that brand new grip might get really dirty too. Some people live in areas where they are more prone to getting their grip dirty. Cleaning saves money. Some people ride the same deck for a long time, and rather than getting new grip, they can keep cleaning the same sheet over and over. It's a tool.136,000 views from people who would rather clean grip instead.

  • @RatVision
    @RatVision  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Grip tape does not have an expiration date or so many years before it goes bad. It's actually a call you are going to have to make. It could last forever, but when you feel that the grip tape is not providing enough traction as you want then replace it.

  • @RatVision
    @RatVision  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    No it won't ruin the adhesion. It's just to dry the grip tape real quick. You can see in the video that it only took a few seconds. To remove grip you have to blow dry for 30 seconds to a minute.

  • @RatVision
    @RatVision  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Who would have NOT thunk that some people live in areas where grip tape gets dirty easily, or that new grip might get dirty the day they get it, or that in the end having the right tool to clean grip tape will SAVE MONEY. Who would have thunk that 154,000 views would prove that people don't want to waste money buying grip over and over and can make a one time investment to keep grip clean and grippy.

  • @RatVision
    @RatVision  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    The grip tape will shred the school rubber/eraser. It will only work for small dusty spots which don't need to be cleaned to add traction.

    You could use slightly damp cloth. Maybe keep a hair drier handy to quickly dry the area.

    You can clean it with a lightly damp cloth. It still might leave a stain but you'll at least get rid of most of it.

    An old school pink or white eraser will work on only light dirt spots. It's not tough enough on grip tape.

    You don't need soap. Only use water if you have thick coarse grip tape. If you do choose to water, only use a tiny bit.

    You guys should make a video between the difference between skinny wheels vs. wider wheels.

    I hear pretty good, and my hair is awesome! Think hEAR with ear, and air blows through hAIR. Here and tHere usually refer to a location or place. Now you'll never forget. We help in many ways.

    Yes, it can cost more, but a piece of rubber for cleaning last forever. Consider it a tool. What would you do if you got a new sheet of grip dirty? Would you want to replace it?

    Where I live mud and clay is everywhere because there is construction going on all over campus so mud and clay is pretty common on griptape around these parts.

    What rubber do you have laying around the house? You can always try anything you got. Not any rubber will work.

    When i clean my grip tape i use toothpaste and a tooth brush with warm water in the shower and scrub my board,then use a towel to dry it,if it's sunny outside I'll put it out side for about a half an hour,I've never had a problem getting the dirt off this way.

    What you DON'T want to do is use a wire brush. It will scratch the grit/sand and make it look white. The best thing to do is use a lightly damp cloth for your situation.

    I keep Grip Gum in my skatebag, but I never saw the wirebrush method. Removing mud from Vicious/Edger griptape is pretty darned impressive.

  • @RatVision
    @RatVision  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Try using a broom or something to brush it off. It's not going to effect the grip and will probably come off as you skate.

    That all has to do with speed and grip. Obviously, the more contact with the ground the slower the wheel. You'll get more grip with a wider wheel, pus more stability.

    I sometimes do this, but if you guys are feeling a bit ghetto then you should use a truck bushing to substitute grip gum. It's pretty crappy compared to grip gum but it gets the job done.
