The winner of the recent poll on the channel was Fallout 4, so that is what I'll be playing next on the channel! I have never played any of the Fallout series before so this will be a blind playthrough. I'll record episodes of this and drop other bits of content in between, I hope you enjoy!

Mike sees a dead Knight on the ground, looks at the Power Armor pieces, "I wonder if I can pick that up?"
A minute later: Mike finds an empty Power Armor frame. "I wonder if I can get into that?"
Mike gets Power Armor frame on, walks past the dead Knight several times., then leaves the area completely.
Me:
Later: Mike exits Power Armor frame, wanders around aimlessly while regretting he didn't choose Master Lockpicking, then leaves the Power Armor frame WITH the Fusion Core still in it ...
Me:
Not only did he lose a full set of T-60b Power Armor, but a Fusion Core and a Power Armor frame in the span of 30 minutes.
Me: .. What?

Keep asking and you’ll know by experience. 🤣 Despite that annoyance, Nick is a good companion to be sure. Your instincts are correct about that location. Give it a bit and revisit it. 😉 I was hoping you’d go back and grab the BOS Power Armor pieces when you picked up the frame, but I understand that it’s not obvious you can do that for a new player. You’re doing well and getting things done! Love that sniper rifle! 💥

Yeah I wish I'd picked up the pieces now, I knew when I walked off that was going to be a sticking point, but then I forgot about them when I found the power armor 🤦🏻♂️🤣

I suspect that the update broke VATS. I am missing more than half of my 95% shots!
Mad isn't it. It became very noticeable how much I was missing, and they were high chance shots as well
Somehow you forgot? Guessing that's why you didn't take the T-60B power armor off of the dead knight once you picked up the "shell" power armor and equip it to that? The shell has no power armor equiped to it, its just a shell.
Yeah I forgot, although I hadn't actually noticed the shell was just a shell either. Later on when I got out of it, I thought the reason it was a shell was due to taking damage 🤣

You can buy power armor frames from arturo in diamond city for any power armor parts you find on dead bodies

In fact, this is pretty much like Skyrim. Don't run fast, but you can often walk down fairly steep slope. FUN FACT that proves the Fallout IS Skyrim: Flying code for Vertibirds is copy/paste flying code for Dragons. Which explains why they crash onto you so often.

@@mike-thegamingdad yeah there are random encounters all over the place. Just most of them are combat. There is one random encounter location by Drumlin Diner, the old house. It has a good chance for random encounters as does the parking lot behind the two story house at the end of the road to your left if you're facing the Museum of Freedom.
So far looks like you missed searching the central pillar at the satellite array - it contains a magazine you don't want to miss. Or maybe I just need to keep watching. Aha, you found it!

When you left your suit behind next a good help with hard to do locks 3 when you see a tree leaning up on a building so you can get up on the roof good idea to check it because sometimes they leave goodies up there
Mirelurk shell is it's strongest point. Try hitting them in a more exposed area like the face or torso.
Yeah thats normally the plan, when they rush you they seem to sort of close themselves up and then only reveal the softer parts when up close
Went on a road trip for the weekend. Found a nice campground back in the hills. It has cell reception which blew my mind. So watching your latest FO4 ep in the comfort and space of the woods 😁

Great video! You've basically gotten to the point that any advice i could give would be nitpicking, so from now on I'll just enjoy your videos!
Ok, one minor nitpick/advice the overseer's guardian could be outfitted in a way to be excellent in VATS. The short barrel you have on it reduces it's range and accuracy, that's why the sniper rifle was getting better hit percentages. Also remember, since it shoots 2 shots for every 1 the damage will basically double.

@@mike-thegamingdad also that radium rifle has a lot of potential! Upgrading them takes points in science to craft, or a ton of luck in finding mods, but radiation damage is mint (except against creatures that heal with radiation)
I'm glad you amped up the Overseer's Guardian. You can do even better. I'm sure you'll like the results.
Quick tip for how many shots you can get off in VATS. As a general rule, any mod with 'quick' or 'light' in the name will decrease AP cost, and heavier or bigger mods will increase it. Rifle stocks use a lot more than pistol grips, so you'll notice high VATS high crit build will often use pistols

I don't know if anyone has mentioned it. Wearing power armor, even just an empty frame completely negates any armor or clothing you are wearing under it. So, if you are relying on clothing buffs or legendary gear it is rendered useless in PA.

About taking part of power armor - yes, you can take them without any issues. If you press X, you can see which parts are still equipped and which ones are broken. Broken parts are weightless - always pick them up. Good value per weight. There's a trick of getting an actual suit of power armor from enemies, but it has a bug - getting into that armor counts as stealing. It can be fixed with console command but only on PC.

That satellite there, there’s a computer terminal and you can raise the dishes. It’ll open up new radio signals and things to lead to more quests in that general area.

If you find a Miners hat, you can modify it in the armory. There's different lights. Purple, infrared red, you can find them in those construction pits with the underground mines

I've learned about guns and it's component because of this game. Sadly, I can't unlearn it.
The radium rifles are from the Far Harbor DLC (Far From Home).
I'm not ready for Survival Difficulty. I recommend looking up what Survival Difficulty in this game means on the Fallout Wiki or the game's Help menu. I use a Combat Rifle (Overseer's Guardian), Combat Shotgun (with some legendary effect if I can find it) and a Combat knife or 10mm pistol to keep the weight down while covering the 3 ranges. Late game, I have a Super Sledge to play wacka-mole ^_^ It's practice for potentially playing Survival Difficulty.

Use the book return tokens at the Book Return machines you find in libraries, police stations and schools.
Yeah I think I will, I'm interested in the game mode for sure but it's likely above my skill level yet, due to unfamiliarity with the game (I bet I've barely scratched the surface yet).
VATS I'm enjoying, although this particular save isn't really a VATS build. I've set up a second save that's much more VATS focused. A female character. Pumped most of my points into agility, luck and perception. Exclusively pistol use. Pistol mods that reduce AP cost etc. It's fun to fire off lots of shots at once. And I've found the accuracy is a lot better as well. I rarely miss. My VATS accuracy on this save feels quite poor in comparison

Turning this mission it in to Lancer Captain Kells will award the Steadfast BOS combat armor chest piece in addition to XP. If turned in to Paladin Danse only the experience points will be given. You’ll find him on the flight deck of the Prydwyn. I’m not certain if you can get to the Prydwyn without advancing Danses quests, but I’m also not sure whether you can avoid handing it into Danse and just advance his quest line until you access the Prydwyn - I think you can avoid handing it in whilst advancing his quests. You’ll just have to try it off camera and reload if you can’t avoid handing it in. That’s if you care about that armour piece - it’s unique and can’t be obtained anywhere else. Just a heads up.

I like taking a single level of Scrounger - you'll be finding more ammo all over.
Yeah I may need to invest in that, shotgun ammo is started to drop now I've flipped that as my main 'up close n dirty' weapon
I suggest trying a Reflex Sight on one of the short-medium range weapons. The added accuracy of being able to aim down the reflex sights more than makes up for using 'hip fire' with a scope in most circumstances during a fire fight IMO.

Mechanical Menace is the start of the Automatron DLC. Once you start that, the game will introduce a new enemy faction, the Rust Devils.
Yeah I accidently completed that whilst prepping for my next episode. Ran into a caravan being attacked on the road by robots, got involved. Suddenly a load of super mutants turn up. I shoot the suicider, the suicider blows up taking half of the squad with it, which sets of a car explosion. Then a robot called Ava or Ada or something says thank you and tries to join up. I sent her to Gray Gardens as I was already on route somewhere with Nick and then it said quest completed. I hadn't even realised what it was 🤣
🤣🤣Ya, the deeper South you go and the more you level up, the faster the pace gets. Fun stuff!!
I always use combat rifles and the Overseers Guardian as a light machinr gun. No scope, powerful auto receive. It really goes through the ammo tho.
Yeah if I'd not gone into the rifleman perks and used automatics I'd have stuck with the auto receiver and probably looked to get a drum mag eventually, if those are possible. I can imagine it eating ammo 🤣
That Legendary Radium Rifle is pretty GOOD agains human enemies.

Even though you do have some protection with just a power armor frame you loose all the benefits of the armor you are wearing. Like if you are wearing any armor with perks or Legendary armor it doesn't work when you have power armor on.
Okay good to know, it was a complete mistake that I just had the frame on, I thought it was armored, minus the helmet lol. When I took it off later on I think I said something about receiving damage as the reason it was just a frame 🤣

@@mike-thegamingdad meh, power armor is over rated anyhow. It's bulky, noisy (supposedly,) and proned to attack by giant magnets. It makes swapping into your sexy sleepwear for +3 to persuasion checks that much more of a hassle. I think you will live 👌

After about a week in-game, Sully Mathis will have drained the quarry. After then, maybe visit Thicket Excavations again.
The 'Far From Home' and 'Mechanical Menace' quests are DLC. Far From Home takes you outside the Commonwealth, but is also the best DLC Bethesda has ever made. Mechanical Menace takes place entirely within the Commonwealth.
There is a mod which allows you to fast travel in Survival difficulty. However I wouldn't recommend Survival difficulty on your first play through, as it changes quite a few game mechanics.
You can still shoot a super mutant suicider's right arm to detonate the mini nuke when it is 'passive.'
I've noticed that you're a compulsive reloader. Remember, reloading takes time. Time which could be used shooting the enemy. Also, Overseer's Guardian has a 40 round magazine. You don't have to reload after two or three shots.
1:04:59 - The power armour frame didn't have any armour pieces, therefore you weren't receiving any protection. In fact, you were weaker inside the frame than you are outside of it. You could have taken the armour off the fallen Knight at the Satellite Array and equipped in on the frame. If you had equipped the armour, the Legendary Raider with the radium rifle wouldn't have been as much of a threat, because you would have negated the radiation damage.
The radium rifle you picked up is not a bad weapon. I would use that in place of the plasma-infused pipe rifle. Make it automatic and you will decimate most enemies, as radiation damage reduces an enemy's maximum health and the poison inflicts damage over time, which stacks with each hit.

The beeping you could hear while on the boardwalk was indeed a spotlight.
1:13:28 - You looked at the door, but didn't open it. There's a section of the building you didn't explore. From memory, I think there's just random loot in there, so you didn't miss much. Just something to keep in mind.
Kidnapping quests are actually timed missions. You have three in-game days to rescue the settler, after which the kidnapped settler is killed and you fail the quest.
Overseer's Guardian would be more effective in VATS if you modified it with a longer barrel. At the moment you've got it set up as a short-range weapon.

The Enraging legendary effect is awesome on a small weapon such as a pistol, but is completely pointless on a missile launcher, as a critical hit will usually kill the enemy outright.
There is a way into the chained-up house just outside Malden. I'm not going to tell you how to get in, except that I have a 'sinking' feeling you may need to go for a swim.

Paladin Brandis comments that the Brotherhood is too far away, while a Brotherhood vertibird is flying around outside the bunker.

If you decide to switch to survival mode and get far enough to do a certain DLC you are going to want the mod that re-enables fast travel. Trust me.

Mind you, your Overseer Guardian now does noticeably more damage than you Violent Sniper Rifle. It also uses less AP and more common ammo. I would recommend getting a better barrel and a muzzle. Suppressor does require Gun Nut level 4, but Muzzle Break should be easier to get. It is pretty much better than your sniper rifle in every respect.

you gotta give Nick a better gun, his default is a weak pipe pistol, so he’ll use that when he’s out of ammo👍

Suggestion, take the leather armor, its great to break down for well leather for armor modding.

The bugs are the bane of survival mode players - and are a handful anyway, especially when you got four or five dive bombing you.

Yeah, that distress pulser, when you get within the general vicinity of the area - in this case the satellite array - you can go into your radio and select the distress signal to help you hone in on the exact location of the pulser.

U.S. Covert Operations Manual #9: In the shanty hut atop the central satellite support (without the dish). It's on a table with a lamp next to it. Never mind, you got it on the second sweep.

Keep an eye on your top left to see a “distress signal” pop up. Then tune your radio and follow it. Unrelated, those hanging meat bags can also contain some decent loot, so check them if you think it’s worth your time. I usually loot more if I’m doing a material run for a building purpose.

Not telling you how to play, just a tip. Here you had a “free” shot. Manually taking that shot would have had a way higher chance of a hit but also a sneak attack bonus. Relying on VATS, you missed the shot and lost your sneak attack bonus (although VATS was terrible here for some reason - perhaps a bug after the update?)You got good aim and accuracy - don’t waste it by over-relying on VATS would be my advice. Hope it doesn’t come across like I’m telling you how to play.

The ordinary bugs don't seem too bad on non survival, but the legendary ones are a real pain. I wish they'd incorporated more bugs than just roaches into the show 🤣
I didn’t think I was going to find the 3rd distress signal. Was purr chance going around in a circle that I picked the signal up 😁🙌🏼
And no its fine I get it, I was having a rough time with VATS in this episode. It seemed like all the shots at 65-70% kept missing, even sometimes I'd double up and still miss. I don't normally use VATS that often as its not really a VATS build but every episode in the comments i get "Use VATS, use VATS" 🤣
I've set up a 2nd save where I'm playing very VATS heavy. A female character, purely pistol use, pistol mods to boost AP, pumped most of my points into agility, luck and perception etc. It's fun to line up tons of shots on multiple enemies.
But in this save I need to improve my VATS accuracy and stuff if I'm going to do it more. It's too much a flip of a coin

Yeah I’m not sure if VATS has a bug or something because that seemed way off. I’m playing myself but I’ve invested in it so I’m hitting my targets - not really a good way to judge whether it’s off or not on my build. Check the CC on the main menu, there’s free DLC there - a few paint jobs etc, worth getting for free.
I never tried activating light on power armor with no parts. I assume it's still work because Bethesda Magic.. But never tested.
Yeah I thought it was the lack of the helmet which meant I couldn't use it, could have been the lack of everything 🤣
Becafeful giving fat mans, missile launchers and grenades to companions i tend to get killed by my companions if i give them these weapons as they sort of cycle through what you have given them 😊
Haha yeah I'm careful not to give them ammo for them but I guess there's always the risk of them finding something and using it 🤣
Righteous authority is a great weapon for VATS
I'll have to try that, Overseers Guardian I couldn't hit a barn door in this. Every shot felt like it was missing 🤣
@@mike-thegamingdad Well the advantage Righteous Authority has is that it builds up Criticals faster as part of its Legendary effect, it's a great gun to farm shots to get your critical meter full
I'm a bit confused and have been most of day. True to my word I went back, watched episode 9, and 10, and am halfway through 11... I've got 2 questions. How did you cure the molerat disease from Vault 81 after giving the cure to Austin? And (going of my understanding that you've never played this before, and I believe that this is as of yet a vanilla playthrough) why aren't you getting achievements or trophies? 🤔 The molerat disease is permanent, and that was bugging me, but then it dawned on my that regardless of what you have accomplished, no trophies. I even went back through older episodes to look. What's your secret? 🤯
I am getting the trophies, you just don't see them, they pop up but they aren't captured by the screen recorder for some reason. I think it's set to capture fallout and not my screen. Trophy pop ups are through the steam app, so it doesn't spot them.
And I went back and tried to split the dose, that didn't work, so I replayed the mission again on my own (left piper outside) and got back to the stage we were at before 😁👍🏻
@mike-thegamingdad so now that I'm all caught up, a few things that are hopefully in order, but no promises....in episode 9 you saw "campfires" in the treeline near Oberland Station, it has to do with the object you and Piper saw on the overpass excursion you told us about.
Episode 10 made me want to remind you about/tell you that if you inventory is full, and your companions is also full, you can instruct the companion to pick up the mini gun or whatever instead of having to sacrifice something valuable.
As for episode 11... power armor. Once you have a frame you can stand outside the frame and transfer cores and armor pieces to it as a field equip. That BoS set for example. So long as the component isn't broken (reduced to 0 health).
Lastly (for now lol) Mods😦 I want to use them soooo bad it hurts, but I still don't have 100% on either of my games, Steam or PS4. Mods disable trophies. Paul from Skooledzone has great videos on rug and pillar glitches for settlement building.
Oh, and super kudos on a solo run to the cure, after a few dozen tries I couldn't do it, now I use the trash can glitch to bypass the molerats and get the cure 😂
@greasedragon77 ah thank you, yeah i thought they were campfires but it makes sense that they were fires from the crash 🤣.
The power armor I found I didn't realise was just a shell 🫣 I assumed when I took it off later that the lack of pieces was due to damage sustained 🤣. But I thought as soon as I left the BoS pieces on the floor that decision would come back to bite me 🤣.
There is a mod which re-enable trophies, which I definitely want as I'm the same, I'd hate to not be able to get them. They are a non tangible 'pat on the back' to show how much time and effort you've put into a game 😁👍🏻
Thank you! It wasn't easy. I saved a few times once I'd cleared a room, sometimes they pop up and it's impossible not to sustain damage so I had to reload. I found stair wells were good places to try and coax them out where they can't immediately hurt you.

Yeah, well the shell anyway, I've already got 5 suits back at Samctuary and I rarely wear them. 22 fusion cores and counting lol. I'll come back for it if I need it
