Fun-fact in 2007 Swedish and German scientist decided to send us some in a rocket to space and they survived. This just proves how fascinating they are and also how resilient.

How many tries did it take you to find a tardigrade? Was it actually from that moss? It seems pretty convenient that you got a clean slide with nothing else
Great questions! So yep, there was a bit of trial and error and patience was exercised, but I can assure you that I was successful in obtaining the waterbears from this and other moss/lichen samples - I just didn’t have enough video space to include all clips, and so you can take the initial footage as representation of the process involved when finding a waterbear. Moreover, the waterbear wasn’t the only creature I found in this sample - maybe I should make a second video?!

For those that want a less expensive one I suggest the pocket microscopes that are common online. Under £20 and can do a good 40x
I’ve had two of those, myself. They’re great for getting video and pictures of things you never knew existed. My kids love these, too.
For the price, Carson makes the best pocket microscope. I have two of these and got a few for my friends. They are very powerful and have a clear view.

Back in highschool (2003ish) I was in biology and we were supposed to be taking things from the fishtank and looking at them under the microscope so we could write a report on it.
I took a tiny bit of really good bud I got from my older brother and put it under the microscope before i had my biology teacher take look at it. He said it looked like some sort of liken. 😅 He was such a cool guy!. So I titled my report, "My kind of Liken".. After handing in my report, I ended up getting a B 😂

you can use on small crystals, but plants are pretty much just green. you cant see plant cells sadly

I got this just today and it’s AMAZING 🤩 but I didn’t find any living things in anything I looked at. The only things I looked at are rosemary leaves,water,orange and apple peel but for the water I didn’t find any tardigrades because I used sink water but it was really fun I recommend you buy it
