Last week we made a new gun stock for a 1906 Martin Model #19 shotgun. This week, since the gun is only a display model, we are going to build a display case for the gun.

Nice case! Thank you for making this video. I'm going to build a display case for a 1903 Springfield rifle. I'm going to put some strip lights around the Inside Edge to light it up just a little bit.

That old shot gun has certainly come a long ways since you got a hold of it. It really looks nice now that you've built a case for it.

I kind of thought the same thing when I saw it rusting away in the corner of my buddy's shop. He had given up on it, but I figured that a 110 year old shotgun needed a little love. And the beauty of it was that I couldn't really fail; anything would have been at least progress. He didn't ask me, rather, I ask him if I could work on it.
But now the pressure is on: My buddy spread the word, and now I have another shotgun stock to do!!! And they are asking me this time!! I'm so flattered that I accepted the job, of course.
My goal is to someday turn some work down. I need a new project every week, so wouldn't it be great to pick only the most interesting?
Sorry again about being late in answering last week. I was on vacation, an on an internet break. Thanks again for watching and commenting.

I don't remember that you glued up the extra pieces of oak to the plywood to make for the trim on your other cases but I love how this works. It is simple and more efficient. Like you said, the two sides of the trim fit perfectly together when the lid is closed. When I first saw you putting the same color of stain on the case I thought that it wouldn't be enough contrast. However, you were thinking ahead of me. The red felt backdrop made the perfect contrast and having all the same stain lets the viewer know that it was a custom design. I hope you are skipping along with this cold weather. Happy Thanksgiving my friend. Don't eat (or drink) too much turkey.

Wish I knew more about colors, but I think the oak and red are what are known as "complimentary" on the color wheel. This means they are directly across from one another. Think I'll look it up, and stop guessing.

***** Being a true hippie, I have done my share of tie dye and had to do a lot of work with a color wheel. Brown can be a darker shade of red. I think that is why they work so well together.

I was half-right. Complementary colors fall across from one another, but the complementary color to a brown stain would be blue to green, depending on the shade of the stain. Darn, I was hoping for a scientific explanation for why the red felt and walnut stain looked so good together. But according to "science" I should have used blue felt. Heck, what do those pencil necks know anyway!!
Not real cold here, of course. Drops into 30's at night, but warms to 60's in the daylight. Still have my fan going in the shop. I'm skipping along.
I deleted my second post from last night. Don't totally remember what I wrote, but I do remember instructing you on religion and forestry, which are two subjects I actually know nothing about. I think fire-water releases the Kruger-Dunning effect in me; it is splinter of human nature, first identified by Benjamin Franklin, in which the least knowledgeable person in any given subject often is convinced he or she knows the most.

Pidasian Hippie Finally, I got my scientific answer!!!!

***** You are correct about the blue to green being complementary. However, that is not the only way that colors look good together. My teacher referred to them as "shoulder" colors. Another words, browns, reds and oranges are colors next to each other. That is scientific. Maybe complementary is not the correct word I should have used. How about agreeable colors?
You just keep skipping and I will begin my scowling and complaining as I trudge along on the trails all bundled up. Hahahah
I am sorry that you deleted your comment last night. You made no offensive comments. I definitely don't remember anything about religion unless you were talking about going to the pub. It is important to continue to surround yourself with friends no matter what form that takes, pub, church, gym, or sewing bee. Oh I forgot the most important. Fishing with the buddies.
You made me look up Kruger-Dunning effect. I had to laugh when I read what it was. You forgot where I worked!! Remember I worked for the government and the motto for advancement is to "rise to your level of incompetence". I came from a world where it is normal for people to be experts on things they know nothing about. Hahahahah
