Spotting Demko AD20.5 CLONES from eBay, AliExpress, etc. Knockoff comparison 🤥

Comparing a Demko AD20.5 knock off / clone from eBay/AliExpress/Wish to the real deal… initial box opening, almost didn’t realize. 😶
Blade material is 8Cr15MoV (marked AUS10A), and the handle material is G10 vs grivory.
Luckily, side by side there are many differences to watch for:
1) Different pivot hardware (larger)
2) No textureless “AD20.5” logo under the pocket clip
3) Pocket clip finish is satin
4) Has steel backoffs vs back spacer
5) Smaller screws in backoffs
6) No lefty carry / pocket clip included
7) Subtle shark lock ramp shape difference
8) Shark lock appears slightly narrower
9) Locking “divot” in base of blade is shallower
10) Box and cleaning cloth slightly different colors
11) No pattern on box, blue lines are a lighter color
12) Knife case material is cheaper poly
13) Gimping on shark lock is different
14) Blade steel is satin/stonewashed vs tumbled
15) Smaller gimping on blade spine
16) Blue box base has lighter grey knife logos
17) Shark on knife case different color
18) Knife comes in a shorter plastic wrap

People like that shark case man and the patch that detaches lol mine came in a plastic box but I’d take a case in a heart beat just to keep other knives in. Cuz it sho won’t be this one it’s my main carry now lol
They have the Titanium versions for $40-$50 would love a comparison.

Have the clone. It’s amazing. Bought aftermarket demko scales. Fit right in. 🤷🏻♂️ I’m not spending 200 dollars on a knife, y’all are out of your f mind.
@@CorpseInTheMaking i have 3 of the titanium ones now and they are just incredible! You’re going to love it. I have gotten one where the lock rattled a bit side to side but the other 2 had better tolerances. But for the price to get a titanium, shark lock, & a D2 blade that gets a wicked sharp edge. You just can’t beat that for $40ish. Other than the edge retention of the better steel from the real one, I don’t see how the real one could get better. I might get some hate for this but listen I’m way over brand names at this point in life. As long as the quality is good and It looks good I don’t care about it being Counterfeit. I was never going to buy the real one to begin with and I still get to enjoy it. Expensive for the sake of being expensive is not me. Plus you wont be afraid to really use it which is the whole point of owning a knife. And obviously don’t be the piece of shit that tries to rip people off by passing it off as the real thing.

Just to play Devil's advocate, my Demko had a slight squeak, not as bad as that. One drop of mineral oil and it was gone. My QSP penguin occasionally squeaks as well.
my demko ad20.5 does as well, not as bad now but sill there after cleaning and lubing
Great video. After watching it I immediately went to eBay and found a seller peddling these fakes for $255. I’m trying to find a way to report him. It’s one thing to sell a knockoff at a knockoff price but he’s selling knockoffs at a higher price than what you can get a legitimate one for.

Only the grivory knives have the flat spot on the scales.thats how you can tell the difference between grivory and G10. And G10 would make it weight more too.

Well I just read somewhere the AD20 clones will be out early 2023 and anything thats wrong with this knife will be fixed on those.
Absolutely true! Got mine AD20 few days ago from Ali. Sold by Jufule. Excellent quality. Zero blade play. Perfect knife for the money. God bless China!
They shouldn’t put his name on it. I’ll tell you what man I recently got a cold steel A.D. 15 and I fell in love with the knife after it broken. I will say the lock bar was sharp on the bottom but some 2K paper made it smooth enough to pinch. So I absolutely fell in love with the design and respect for the man and they shouldn’t put his freaking name on it.
I agree they shouldn't put the names on the clones. I have zero problems with clones in general, there are clones or 'inspired copies' of almost everything in the world, not just knives. But the original branding shouldn't be used.

The "New" demko ad20.5 grivory handle with the D2 blade actual does come with steel demko pivot or maybe it's 3v non titanium. The old grivory with the Aus10 blade doesn't have the steel Demko pivot..........................

@@zbaird3 ah, I think you mean the AD20S model, made in USA? Those do have the full steel pivot hardware even on Grivory and G10. Whereas only the AD20.5 Titanium and CF models from Taiwan have it.

What's the closest clone to a real one have you got? I'm thinking about grabbing one just for the fake pouch because my real one from BladeHQ only came in a plastic tube.
Only got the one, you might be able to get an authentic case from a website, or from someone on bladeforums, or the Demko fb group. If not, take a look at AliExpress where this one came from, seller JUFULE but I don’t want to link and promote them.
Yeah unfortunately Demko changed their packaging BECAUSE of all the fakes & clones. Now the "legitimate AD 20.5" knives *only* come in the dumb tube. I bought one of the "Blade HQ Exclusive Jade Grivory" editions when the AD 20.5 first came out with the pouch. Long story short, I recently reached out to Blade HQ & Demko and was told the pouch was discontinued in favor of the plastic pill case tube to easily identify the fakes/clones. It sucks. They are really nice pouches. I have 3 different models & only 1 of the nice pouches. They pop up on eBay without a knife from time to time but people want $50+ for them. Happy hunting

@@pocketpriorities The only reasoning is that we must simply value labor and materials far too much. It boggles the mind to think what China's manufacturing capability truly must be.

Seems like nobody is doing a vid on regular full size AD20 counterfeits and clones. I just saw one advertised as a clone on eBay but it looks exactly the same. I was just about to pay secondary market price for one until I found out about this. At $1,300 I just can’t take the chance now knowing there are identical counterfeits of the original ad20 with textured ti. 😢😕🤬

What do you think dude order a black real Demco and get some original goat scales? I just picked up a Roxy three it’s all right kind of small. The actions really good though. Apparently this knife is a good flipper to otherwise it wouldn’t be so popular. I know I’m going to get it I’m trying to talk myself out of it

Makes me sick to be point blank. Because now whomever purchases one of these and adds the cheap ( clone ) aluminum scale kit will now have a super clone. I recently saw a scale set with hardware on a knife forum that you can not tell the difference between the real vs this kit. It actually comes down to weight or testing to know the difference between the two. Means many inexperienced buyers could potentially purchase one thinking it is real.
We should stop all importation of knock off knives kinda like they do with other things they confiscate within customs.
In a serious way Americans are partly responsible for this. By supporting these clone manufacturers they in return can upgrade their efforts and machinery to create better clones.
And drive down American manufacturers prices.
That in itself is another problem. These companies here that produce these knives and then slap ridiculous prices on their knives actually are in the long run cutting their own throats. With Chinese labor being so much cheaper they can dang near create close enough to exact copies for a fraction of the costs. And people who want or like the American designs but hate the pricing will of course grab a clone instead.
I have recently seen a updated clone Benchmade 9400 where they now have the purple backspacer the correct color to match the original versions purple backspacer.
Given enough time the Chinese will get these right eventually.
I am not sure there is any way of stopping this as long as people continue purchasing the clones.

While I don't condone forgeries in the slightest, I am curious as to how it performs. Everyone's main complaint against the AD20.5 is the price paid for budget materials; this clone seems much more inline.
Definitely shows the money goes largely to R&D, no one in China is developing tech like the shark lock. That said, this clone is definitely a step down on materials, quality, and much more so it’s not like for like. Just consider there are knives with 20CV for $99 and similar 20CV knives for $999. A lot goes into determining price.

Saves you space haha! All the top end Demko AD20.5 (everything withtbhe bigger pivot hardware) have always shipped in the simple plastic case, kinda cool.
I e bought a few clones over the years out of curiosity to compare , lol. ZT 0456 and green thorn stellar were actually pretty well done . We were all suprised actually . The rest were crap . I remember a guy saying the frank Fischer battle was well done . These knives didn’t have the name billboarded , just a decent copied design , oh the ZT was an imposter but the green thorn stellar is a knife people would actually like imo .

Yeah I can tell they’re nowhere near the same quality although they look similar . I ve been down this road . It has to be at least $60 for any clone to be close to good . Don’t let the night community for you there’s people there by these two just cause we’re all curious

I have over 100 folding knives and the demko is so over priced for the lock. The China clones are AWESOME. D2 is better tool Steel than 10A and China’s heat treat on the d2 is great. Never had any issues sharpening or use. For $27 and you get upgraded materials lol g10 and great heated tool steal for $125 difference. I didn’t mind adding some KPL oil to the pivot and sharpening it. No blade play or noise, same action, and as slicy. My real one was $165 clone $27. The price does not out weight the quality by any means, it is not even close.

@@pocketpriorities I don’t prefer them but if you can sharpen your own shit and like collect, I only get clones I can’t get the real deal or afford at the time. Most of mine are the real deal. I lost my real demko replaced it with a clone and it was as good or better for $125 less 🤷🏼♂️ hard to turn down. I have 12 plus real benchmades and spyderco. I don’t need any more high end steel. All into budget blades love kizer and kancept. Sitivien and CJRB knocking it out of the park with 14c28n and ar-rpm9
