Been using a fm Bluetooth transmitters for the past 8-9years and they have never failed me. I have one right now in my 2000 Toyota Tacoma with stock stereo to listen to Past Gas podcast every morning on my way to work. 🤙🏽
A friend of mine has an FM transmitter and the only downside to it I saw was if someone else was running one, it would interfere with yours and you'd get some garbled stuff for a couple seconds
One time i was jamming out to a radio station playing some classics then all of a sudden i heard interference and started hearing (idk how else to describe it) the most white 40y/o woman music ever
And one of the other downsides is if you’re in a very hilly area without a lot of cell towers you may run into broken signals. Also, sometimes the static just starts to overwhelm the radio and you can’t even hear your music anymore. But FM transmitters are a good, faster, cheaper alternative to replacement head units. Just plug it in and choose a silent station with good signal, pair Bluetooth and you’re good to go. With the head unit stuff you can end up buying a really bad head unit, or overloading the amp and have to replace your speakers as well
Pertective fillum, yessir. They put that shit on plastic surfaces for perteckshun. Was that redundant? Redundamunda... Redun de dun dun, that's the past tense of redo de doo doo...
I have that same FM transmitter and it works pretty good for hands free calling. I have to jump into a lot of different vehicles and carrying that with me is a lot easier than figuring out how to pair my phone with each one.
I have the same one but its pretty bad, it disconnects from power super easily and it now makes crazy interference noise when plugged in with an audio jack. Fm transmitter works great tho.
I bought it and I think it got a shorted wire or something. Every time I hit a bump, it would reset and make me reconnect. It lasted about 2 weeks. Total crap.

“Curb Feelers” were a late fifties early 60s thing and continued with low rider scene in the Southwestern US. They do work and keep you from curbing you wheels. 😅
Curb feelers were around in the early ‘50’s. Man next door had them on his Pontiac. For the forties you will have to check with someone older or in some old catalogs for car parts like Warshaskies(spelling?).
@@jjhoops023 he donated his liver to his fiancé just so she would live again, but she cheated on him after the operation which made him depressed and started eating unhealthy amounts of food
Funny, when the curb feeler bit started, I joked to myself, "I should put some on my Fit". Then viola! Also, they had them on both sides. And if you park downtown on one way streets, you may "need" them on the left side of the car. 😉
They said only on the passenger side, which I would agree. Some newer cars now coming super low stock, I could see someone putting one of the driver side for when using drive through a lot. For some reason a lot of the Starbucks I go to have really slim drive throughs in LA, Cali.
You can put them on the pinch weld, but on a lowered vehicle, say you're going forward and then turn right to get closer to line up with the curb, your bumper would hit the curb before the feelers would touch anything. By placing it on the bumper you have a little more warning while moving the front around
You're bringing back memories. My first car at 17 was a 1983 Ford Thunderbird turbo 4-cylinder and I tell you you could redline that thing all day long. That thing was fast and I only paid $350 for it. 5 speed too
12:08 You can use boiled linseed oil to protect paint. Smear it on and wipe it off. If there's too much it gets sticky so wipe it off to make the layer thin. Wait for it to dry and you can put wax over it to make it last longer. Makes scratches, scuffs, and faded spots disappear.
I've got it in an old ranger and I have zero complaints at all, except maybe the display is a bit dim, but it probably wouldnt look as retro if it wasnt. Sounds and works amazing for 30 bucks.
Last two stereos I bought (different beater cars) were from in-store at Walmart. Blaupunkt brand, I think I paid $20 or maybe 25 Canadian for each one, not on sale. Has SD, USB, Bluetooth, FM, Aux, a remote, mic for talking on the phone, basically everything except CD and AM radio. Not terribly powerful but works good and has RCA outputs too. And for you racers, it's super light as well 😂.
LOL the "turbo whistle" the sound does sound much like a turbo from old racing video games haha Yeh know the sound well. You guys are killing it. But man you all need some help. couldn't install a radio, installed curb feelers wrong, horrible green screen of your shop. Whats up fellas
To mount the radio in the glovebox, Nolan: make a panel out of 3/4" or 1/2" MDF to cover the opening and support the radio. 1. create template using a cereal box. keep trimming 'till it's a tight fit. 2. transfer onto MDF, then cut with jigsaw 3. cut a single-din size rectangle out of the center of MDF panel cut in step 2 4. cover with upholstery, carpet or paint (if painting, seal first with watered-down white glue, applied with chip brush) 5. stuff radio in hole of new panel you just made, then pop that bitch in glovebox (friction fit) 6. crank it up
Hey guys, my classic has the interior completely stripped as it was modified for hill climb racing. I now daily drive it and badly needed some tunes. So instead of cutting a hole in the dash for a head unit and trying to wire and retrofit speakers, I just put in a bluetooth soundbar. Find one that runs on DC, cut off the plug and use a voltage converter if it's not 12v. Mines 18v so just got a little step up converter off ebay. With an inline fuse, wire it up to your 12v system and you are good to go! Whole thing took me maybe 30 mins to install and cost £50. I got a 120w sound bar so it is plenty loud enough :) Cheap and effective way of getting tunes in the car with minimal effort.
Had an FM transmitter for a couple of years. That was the coolest thing ever. After a while for some reason i started to get a LOT of signals mixing in with my Bluetooth. As if it was picking someone elses radio up. But it was a cool thing to have and worked very well
i’ve used poppy’s patina. i used it on my 70’ deville. it has lacquer paint and it was all original in decent condition, i wanted to bring out the shine so i tried poppy’s. i did every step as instructed spent a lot of time and effort doing so, and it came out terrible and had to wet sand and buff the car like crazy and now it’s covered in swirls. make sure the car you use it on is not lacquer paint or it will absolutely destroy it. i still have marks left over that won’t come out from it and it’s broke my heart
If yall can, get that cassette player with the aux adapter to your phone. They also sell an aux to Usb C/lightning adapter too. The bluetooth is great and all but it actually lowers the sound quality and volume.
It also really depends on the quality of the Bluetooth receiver. A really cheap one is going to sound like crap but on a decent one it'll sound a lot better. I had a quite nice AM/FM transmitter that got stolen (They ruined my glovebox lock too... but left a free screwdriver!) and it definitely sounded better than the casette aux. My sister got a bargain bin transmitter and it sounds like trash.
Honestly, I thought the rust with paint was a chosen look by Nolan. Like he clear coated over it, I forget what it's called. I'm sometimes against it but liked it on his. Whether he keeps the look or repaints is up to him, don't let others influence what you want....as long as he doesn't paint it neon
Someone might park with the curb on the driver's side if they live on a one-way street. A lot of one-way streets by me with parking on both sides of the road (but of course all facing the same direction).
I bought that very same radio and installed it in my old square body. It works great for me. Love the look of it and does what it needs to do for cheap. I even installed a sub with it.
4:40: I do have one! I would actually recommend viewers get one with a power switch, just in case your car doesn't automatically turn off the power sockets when the keys are out. They do work really, really well though, and I keep one in my bag just for switching between all the different vehicles I have to drive
Got a custom auto sound stereo system for my 75 el camino and 100% don’t regret it, it looks original when off but has a digital display when on and has Bluetooth along with ports for a subwoofer and amplifier. Can definitely say I’d you’re looking for a vintage style modern radio you’re going to be spending at least 200 bucks for a good working unit.
The patina has to be natural done in the sun and weather over time. The sponges they send you are junk, you're better off going to your local hardware store and get some nicer ones used for paint.
A far cheaper way to get makeshift AC in an old car is to hook up a fan to a cheap cooler with some ice in it. Make a couple high up holes in it, one for the fan, and replace the ice when you stop for fuel.
I like how other TH-camrs read some long script about whatever add then it’s wd40 giving all creative control to donut to make some random shit up which I like more
That little moment of James and Nolan working on the car together applying the finish makes me want a Donut segment where the whole crew help each other bust out their personal goals on each others cars.
Currently using a bluetooth fm transmitter on my 93 Corolla AE. Keeping the stock headunit coz im preserving the all stock look. Works very well, a bang for the buck indeed.
As a boomer I can assure you that "curb feelers" were already considered a frumpy old-persons product when I was a little kid. Ironically they're more useful nowadays since automotive designers have decided that tires should be narrower than rims.
I like how you went from: phone connected via Bluetooth to fm transmitter, transmitting to radio, wired to a Bluetooth speaker. I know it was to test the product but it makes me laugh.
It's honestly good to see that there's some nice thunderbirds left, I'm 19 and I'm lucky enough to have purchased a chipped and tuned 87 ford thunderbird with a 5.0 and I honestly love it so much
My truck didn't have the visor "option" or passenger wiper but it does have the crank out windshield and cowl vent to keep cool in the summer and the dealer installed a heater.
OMG that is not patina that is simply RUST which is attacking from the inside. You will not be able to "preserve" this state of the car, as it will continue to rust through ...
4:42 I do have that in my truck. I think the same model. The only issue is if you hit a bump it resets. When I put it in my car it lays near the cup holder it gets hit when my passenger or myself grabs a drink and it resets. That part is annoying. I like that there’s a USB port in front so you can keep your device charged while running the music through it. 6:41 I still call them cigarette lighter outlets.
A Bluetooth FM Transmitter Radio Adapter Car Kit works fine with an old car radio, your mileage may vary since you have to find a vacant radio frequency to send the signal on to the car radio. I even took calls with the one I bought.
Visor extenders are useful, but the attachment mechanism is always the weak point, and those ones are just crap. I've had several in my car because when the sun is just right it glares below the visor and sunglasses are not enough to block it, I need that second layer of plastic screen. The ones I've used had plastic clips and seemed to be designed to attach to the top of the visor instead of the bottom, which is daft, anyway they just flip down on a hinge. Had 4 over the years, broken 2 of them, one arrived broken , still have one passenger side and I still use it when the sun is just wrong./
So the even cooler thing about the radio Bluetooth transmitters is you can sync up multiple cars with them. I have an old scoch one n it works pretty good
The ad vs app was a great premise tbh lol Subtle, but hilarious. I could see a couple good buddies getting stuck on a whole "everthing cool has an app" thing/argument for a while 😂
Personally if you want that type of radio for your older car I would go with RetroSound and get a Audio Control DSP to make it sound the best it could. Then some Sundown Audio speakers, Down4Sound Amp(s), and Sundown Audio Subs.
I had that radio in my celica. Had a rough start up, but that was basically cuz of my shoddy wiring protection so it was soft shorting itself. Fixed it, then the audio quality and the classy look fit so well. Best 30$ to spend on a classy looking radio
what i did with my 1979 caddy, i went to a radio shop and they took the old components out of my radio and put new stuff in it and re-did the wiring and it was really good
That T-Bird doesn't even need the whole length of the visors, as the window is so narrow. I keep driving with the visor down as farthest from me as possible and it works the best.
Curb feelers are WAY older than the Boomer generation. The Silent and Greatest generations are the ones that built those lowered hot rods and lead sled customs that popularized curb feelers. They were right alongside things like fuzzy dice, blue dots, and Bermuda bells. If you want a better idea of what Boomer accessories are, think of what was popular from about 1965 to 1984 at the absolute latest on contemporary customized cars, or what became popular as they hit retirement - like your sun visor extender. Think dashboard GPS and cell phone holders, pull down window shades, and stick on fisheye spot mirrors.
Y'all definitely should've sprayed it. However, you can probably get some Krylon clearcoat from Lowes way cheaper than that stuff. But I got an even cheaper solution: Just use your used oil as rubbing compound, it works, trust me. You might have to reapply it every so often, like every oil change...

With an inline fuse, wire it up to your 12v system and you are good to go! Whole thing took me maybe 30 mins to install and cost £50. I got a 120w sound bar so it is plenty loud enough :)
Cheap and effective way of getting tunes in the car with minimal effort.
Congratulations guys, you actually got me to watch the ad spot and... I enjoyed it lol. GJ, now I want some wd40
Drink responsibly!
They killed that ad !!! I'm buying that WD 40
Had an FM transmitter for a couple of years. That was the coolest thing ever. After a while for some reason i started to get a LOT of signals mixing in with my Bluetooth. As if it was picking someone elses radio up. But it was a cool thing to have and worked very well
Lol what happened to the radio?? There was not even an attempt to install it or review it... Lmao just don't include it in the video at all.
yeah that looked VERY cheap/low effort to me like "eh too much effort we don't give a shit". Not cool
The point
Your head.
maybe because most most of the reviews said it didnt even turn on at all so they just didnt even try
Fuckin sad they are getting lazier and lazier with the nitty gritty stuff that they were known for. Fame diminishing at its finest
I mean, they put it in a car without speakers that had a radio already they wouldn't remove.... Sometimes, I don't understand why they even bother
i’ve used poppy’s patina. i used it on my 70’ deville. it has lacquer paint and it was all original in decent condition, i wanted to bring out the shine so i tried poppy’s. i did every step as instructed spent a lot of time and effort doing so, and it came out terrible and had to wet sand and buff the car like crazy and now it’s covered in swirls. make sure the car you use it on is not lacquer paint or it will absolutely destroy it. i still have marks left over that won’t come out from it and it’s broke my heart
If yall can, get that cassette player with the aux adapter to your phone. They also sell an aux to Usb C/lightning adapter too. The bluetooth is great and all but it actually lowers the sound quality and volume.
I thought we all knew the cassette adapters are bad news by now
Have one in my celica 😂
@@thewhitedread7572 ive had mine for 2 years now, its not perfect, but its better audio quality than the bluetooth adapter I have
It also really depends on the quality of the Bluetooth receiver.
@@SmolPotatowo good to know !
It's called a patina
@@davyjones04 thank you! I kept thinking cantina and knew that was wrong
I bet i can chug more milk than nolan can
Will OP deliver.
I know I can. I drink at least 2/3 of a gallon a day lol.
@@itznsdominator3521 dawg I can chug a liter in 7 seconds

Someone might park with the curb on the driver's side if they live on a one-way street. A lot of one-way streets by me with parking on both sides of the road (but of course all facing the same direction).
I must be a boomer. People talk about podcasts and I just think to myself: You mean talk radio.
True, difference is you can often watch video of it as well
4:34
It’s hilarious that you guys hung both these things on strings!
😂
WAKE UP HUN, DONUT MEDIA POSTED
But it’s not Ranger updates 😭🥺
I bought that very same radio and installed it in my old square body. It works great for me. Love the look of it and does what it needs to do for cheap. I even installed a sub with it.
YOU’RE TELLING ME THEIR NOT ACTUALLY SITTING IN THE GARAGE DURING THESE VIDEOS?! Everything I’ve ever known was a lie 😢
4:40: I do have one! I would actually recommend viewers get one with a power switch, just in case your car doesn't automatically turn off the power sockets when the keys are out.
They do work really, really well though, and I keep one in my bag just for switching between all the different vehicles I have to drive
the clear coat montage was actually beautifully shot. i loved it
I use a Bluetooth cassette adapter for my cassette player in my 2000 civic. To listen to past gas
The sponges they send you are junk, you're better off going to your local hardware store and get some nicer ones used for paint.
i love seeing Nolan's car getting so much love lately
A far cheaper way to get makeshift AC in an old car is to hook up a fan to a cheap cooler with some ice in it. Make a couple high up holes in it, one for the fan, and replace the ice when you stop for fuel.
I like how other TH-camrs read some long script about whatever add then it’s wd40 giving all creative control to donut to make some random shit up which I like more
"Our producer welded a bracket" I love that sentence so much, that's why Donut rules, everyone is on board.
Some of the best camera work you guys have ever had with the patina shots around 13:00 onward. Props.
That little moment of James and Nolan working on the car together applying the finish makes me want a Donut segment where the whole crew help each other bust out their personal goals on each others cars.
theres like 5 videos of just that.
6:48 THE THUNDERBIRD HAD A CASETTE PLAYER WITH SEPERATE EQ - PUT THE BLUETOOTH HEAD UNIT IN THAT. IT CLEARLY NEEDS IT
Currently using a bluetooth fm transmitter on my 93 Corolla AE. Keeping the stock headunit coz im preserving the all stock look. Works very well, a bang for the buck indeed.
I've seen retro radios that were Bluetooth enabled etc., that worked great, but they cost around $250-$500, they are custom made for certain vehicles.
Justin is fantastic in that ad. I wanna buy that and I have 0 use for it.
So glad to see Nolans Imperial getting some love!
Love donut and the work you do. Best car youtube channel ever. If you guys hire me, I'll make sure all your greenscreen shots look amazing
A Bluetooth FM Transmitter Radio Adapter Car Kit works fine with an old car radio, your mileage may vary since you have to find a vacant radio frequency to send the signal on to the car radio. I even took calls with the one I bought.
Love adding donut videos to watch later because I can see the thumbnail change like 4 times lmao
The WD 40 ad was sick!!!!!!!!
11:30 On first view I thought a meter maid was writing y'all a ticket, but now I realize that it's just a camera man in frame.
Does the wd40 product also work for leaking 2 stroke bikes? Does it remove the oil stains?
Visor extenders are useful, but the attachment mechanism is always the weak point, and those ones are just crap.
I've had several in my car because when the sun is just right it glares below the visor and sunglasses are not enough to block it, I need that second layer of plastic screen.
The ones I've used had plastic clips and seemed to be designed to attach to the top of the visor instead of the bottom, which is daft, anyway they just flip down on a hinge.
Had 4 over the years, broken 2 of them, one arrived broken , still have one passenger side and I still use it when the sun is just wrong./
Donut. Sometimes Iove the adds better than the content, while I normally hate ads.
So the even cooler thing about the radio Bluetooth transmitters is you can sync up multiple cars with them. I have an old scoch one n it works pretty good
BEWARE! James’s meds start to wear off starting at 11:50. If you don’t want to cringe, skip forward about 10 seconds.
5:16 the stubby radio gives you an amazingly stealthy place to hide stuff behind it!
I love past gas’s I just started it and I listen to it while I detail cars it’s the best
So nice to see James and Nolan maining as a duo
They actually had similar glare guards back in the 1980s. They clipped to the visor and had a hinge that allowed it to rotate down.
"This is nerve wracking but... We ball." Truer words are rarely ever spoken, Nolan. Ball on, bro. Ball on.
The ad vs app was a great premise tbh lol
Subtle, but hilarious.
The roller shots with stickers on the tires was sick
The green screen looks distractingly bad. I liked when the channel didn't feel overproduced.
what i did with my 1979 caddy, i went to a radio shop and they took the old components out of my radio and put new stuff in it and re-did the wiring and it was really good
Only James gets to read product titles! You can't skip any words!
I have a 1948 CJ2A Jeep, and I can tell you most of those products would not work on it... but the clear coat, I like.
Ive had that exact same first radio transmitter in my w203 Mercedes lol. I loved it
That T-Bird doesn't even need the whole length of the visors, as the window is so narrow. I keep driving with the visor down as farthest from me as possible and it works the best.
Deffinetley a banger of an video
I have that exact radio in my 99 gmt800 and its perfect for the $29 i paid for it bt connects almost immediately and it gets loud.
